Chapter 98
Episode 98: The Interrogation is Brutal and Merciless (Part 1)
Under Cain’s command, the execution team had transported everyone present at the church where the deal took place to the Zafing Residence without a single exception.
The breakdown included Archbishop Hawkins, the main target, Bishop Clive, the head of the church where the incident occurred, along with twelve subordinates, and four prostitutes, totaling seventeen people.
These seventeen individuals were taken to the dungeon of the Zafing Residence, where they would be interrogated.
When Hawkins and his group regained consciousness, they couldn’t comprehend their situation and began shouting, but no one responded to their cries.
This was on Giorg’s orders, with the aim of cutting off information to stir up anxiety and prevent them from making rational judgments.
It took an hour for Hawkins and his group to quiet down, during which they were completely ignored.
◇ ◇ ◇ ◇ ◇
“You all did well. Thanks to your efforts, we can eradicate the scum who have been preying on the people of Galvate. We can’t tell our families, our friends, or the innocent about our achievements, nor can we receive praise from them. But at least let me commend you.”
Giorg directly praised Cain and the execution team. Giorg always made a point to personally commend his subordinates, of course, after ensuring they were properly compensated.
For Giorg, it was a given to reward his subordinates for their dangerous work done at a high level, and showing them respect was only natural.
From the subordinates’ perspective, they were well aware that their dirty work made them targets of scorn. But what kept them going was the fact that their leader, a marquis of lofty status, showed them respect. Their work wasn’t something to be praised, but knowing that someone understood them was a great support.
“Rest well, everyone. I’ll need your strength again for the next job.”
“Yes, sir!!”
With that, Giorg concluded, and the execution team bowed in unison.
After receiving Giorg’s words of praise, the group dispersed, and Giorg moved to the office with Cain and Roy to receive a detailed report.
“Cain, well done. And Roy, I’m sorry you didn’t get a chance to act.”
Giorg spoke to Cain and Roy as he sat down in the office.
Roy had been prepared to capture anyone monitoring the deal, but there was no one to capture, so he had no chance to act.
“Yeah, Hawkins really lacks a sense of crisis. I can’t understand why he wouldn’t prepare for the possibility of the deal failing. It’s a shame we couldn’t catch Bragan and his men too.”
Roy’s voice was tinged with a sigh. The subordinates who had been tailing Argus were also taken down to prevent Giorg’s involvement from being traced back to Argus, but it turned out to be unnecessary.
Even Bragan and his men, who had regained consciousness, could only smile wryly upon realizing their efforts were in vain.
“He probably thought he’d be released quickly, relying on his status as an archbishop and the authority of the church. But this time, it’s not just an arrest—it’s an arrest by the lord himself.”
“Ah, that’s true. Normally, you wouldn’t expect someone as intimidating as Lord Giorg to be involved.”
At Roy’s words, both Giorg and Cain couldn’t help but smile wryly. Though Roy’s words seemed to belittle Giorg, they were filled with excessive respect, which made them chuckle.
“Now, as for the interrogation of Hawkins and his group, you both understand, right?”
At Giorg’s words, Cain and Roy straightened their backs. Giorg’s “you understand, right?” was a clear indication of the severity of his interrogation methods.
“Thirteen mouths… reducing two or three won’t be a problem.”
Cain and Roy nodded silently at Giorg’s words.
“Now, about the prostitutes…”
“Yes, there were four. What should we do with them?”
“We won’t harm them, but we need to intimidate them.”
“So, we’ll have them present during the interrogation? I feel sorry for them. I hope they don’t have nightmares.”
Giorg chuckled softly at Roy’s words.
“That’s unlikely. In fact, if they don’t have nightmares, we’ll have to take further action.”
Giorg’s response was utterly cold, and both Roy and Cain accepted it as a matter of course.
“If the prostitutes are smart, there won’t be any issues.”
“Let’s hope so.”
Cain nodded in agreement with Giorg’s reply.
“Now, let’s go teach Hawkins and his fools a lesson in reality. Who should we start with?”
Giorg muttered as he stood up and headed toward the dungeon where Hawkins and his group were held. Cain and Roy followed closely behind.
“How are they?”
“Yes, as per your orders, we left them alone, and about ten minutes ago, they stopped shouting, probably out of exhaustion.”
“I see. Then open the door.”
“Yes, sir.”
The jailer obeyed Giorg’s command and unlocked the door. Once the door was open, Giorg stepped inside the dungeon.
Click, click…
The sound of Giorg’s footsteps echoed in the damp air.
“Let us out of here!!”
“Do you know who I am?!”
“You’ll face divine punishment for this!!”
Hearing Giorg’s footsteps, Hawkins and his group began shouting again. Giorg stood before them.
“I order you… do not speak unless answering my questions.”
For a moment, everyone fell silent at Giorg’s cold words, but it was only for a moment before they started shouting again.
“Don’t mess with us!! Do you know who this is?! This is Archbishop Carver-Hawkins!! How dare a brat like you—know your place!!”
It was Bishop Clive, gripping the bars and yelling at Giorg. Little did he know, this act would lead to his demise.
Giorg grabbed Clive by the collar through the bars and yanked him forward, slamming him against the bars. In Giorg’s right hand, a knife had appeared, and without hesitation, he plunged it into Clive’s chest.
The movement was so fluid and devoid of any warning that none of Hawkins’ group noticed what had happened until it was too late.
“Huh…?”
Clive felt a sudden heat in his chest, followed by intense pain, and tried to cry out.
Thud, thud…
He then felt two more impacts in his abdomen, and his strength gave out as he collapsed. Giorg swiftly pulled the knife from Clive’s chest and stabbed him twice in the abdomen.
Giorg grabbed Clive’s head and drove the knife into his brainstem. Clive’s body twitched violently before going still. His death was instantaneous, and the others were too stunned to react.
It had taken less than five seconds. In that time, Giorg had ended Clive’s life without emitting a single hint of killing intent.
“I told you not to speak unless answering my questions.”
