chapter 13
13 – Picking up an abandoned healer (7)
“Secretary!”
Leanna jumped at me and pointed at me toward the front door.
“That, that, that!”
Saint Celestine was at the place Leanna was pointing to.
Take a few steps inside the guild, get on her knees, and put your forehead on her ground.
What? On her knees and banging her forehead on the ground?
So that’s what they said. That attitude, that.
Dogeza, you’re playing Togeza?
A saint with a halo on her head?
“I’m not looking at anything right now, am I? You’re watching too, sir?”
Leana waved my arm.
“I don’t think it’s in vain.”
“Brother… Please have mercy on this poor thing…”
“Ugh…!”
Leana sighed at the incredible remarks that would come out of a saintess’s mouth.”
I was about to stare at her frantically, but Leanna pushed me on my arm, telling her to do something.
She cleared her throat a little and opened her mouth.
“I don’t know what you’re doing. Are you here to get the devil’s head?”
“Yes, it is…”
“To avoid responsibility for the deaths of the priests? Or to build a track record?”
“It’s not about accumulating achievements or avoiding responsibility… Yesterday’s priests were originally meant to die…”
No, what kind of crazy is this?
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
Then the saintess, who was resting her forehead on the ground, raised her head and rummaged in the small pocket of her waistband.
“This…”
What the saintess held out was a piece of paper that looked like an official document folded many times.
I handed it over and unfolded it. I immediately opened her eyes wide and looked at her saintess again.
“What is this?”
“It’s a sect order. If you read it, you’ll understand…”
Sect orders?
It’s not because I don’t believe it.
At the bottom of the official document, along with the signatures of several high-ranking priests, there was a large seal that clearly belonged to the celibate sect.
I remember it because I saw it a few times while playing.
The official document itself is not a lie.
And even if they forged official documents, they wouldn’t do it with crazy content like this.
I wondered because of the ‘crazy content’.
Is this really an order made by the sect of the church?
“What is it?”
Leana looked at the official document from the side and looked up at me in surprise.
“Secretary… What is this…?”
“Well, I think it’s as written.”
“In the church? The priests who serve the Goddess?”
“You shouldn’t ask me, you should ask that saintess.”
While the two of us were discussing, the saintess again put her forehead on the floor.
She looked at it and scratched her head before opening her mouth.
“For now, get up. Let’s sit down and talk.”
I was surprised the second time when I saw the face of the saintess who staggered up.
All gray, with swollen lips, looking like a corpse in just a few hours.
Seeing her face, Leana ran and helped her saintess.
We took her saintess into her counseling room.
After Leanna sat her saint in her chair, she went to the kitchen to serve her tea.
Sitting across from her saintess, I quietly asked while looking down at the crumpled official document.
“So… They’re all death row inmates.”
“Yes…”
The voice of the saintess who lowered her head was severely cracked.
The contents of the official document were as follows.
The priests who violated the sect’s major rules were organized into a demon extermination team.
Work under the control of the Warden and exterminate demons.
Reduction of punishment or pardon considering the level of the demon defeated.
So to put it simply, during World War II, it’s like having German prisoners of war cleared mines in the Soviet Union.
“What the hell is this ‘great rule’ that turns people into suicide squads?”
“Homos*xuality between male priests…”
“Oops.”
All male priests of abstinence sects have their testicles removed to get rid of s*xual desire.
However, I do know that they secretly have ‘in-house dating’ because they don’t lose their s*xual desire that way.
But it was the first time I knew that such people were treated like this.
“Then the saintess must have been one of those wardens.”
“No, brother…”
“Please explain in detail. I don’t know at all.”
“I’m sorry… I didn’t explain enough… Then I’ll explain again…”
“Before that, have some warm tea.”
Just then, Leana came in and set the steaming teacup down in front of the saintess.
“Thank you…”
Month month month month month month month.
The saintess’ hand holding the teacup trembled so loudly that the teacup and her saucer clashed loudly.
Leana, who was sitting next to me, looked at such a saint with her uneasy eyes.
After sipping her tea a little, the saintess set down her cup and opened her mouth.
“The priest you killed yesterday was the Warden…”
“I know that. But it’s a little strange. That human didn’t have a Halo. How can a rank priest without a Halo monitor the saintess?”
“The Wardens do not use divine power, but literally watch over them. The sect appointed a priest with exceptional military power as the Warden.”
If that’s the case, that’s understandable.
You can kill people with a sword, but you cannot kill people with divine power.
And the priests of the church I know don’t have very high fighting power, to the point where a single person can slaughter several people with a bit of a knife.
If that’s the case, as the saintess said, it would be much easier to control if someone who was good at cutting was just following her, regardless of her status in the church or whether she had divine power.
Looking at it now, the name of the warden was specified at the bottom of the official document.
And below that, in fine print, a list of death row inmates.
There, the title of ‘Celestine, the holy woman in charge’ was clearly visible.
A while ago, the content of the main text was so shocking that I couldn’t see the bottom of it.
“I and the priests chased the devil under the control of the Warden. We tracked it for quite a long time, starting with the Empire. And here we finally found the devil’s bloodstain.”
You must be referring to the first time you met me.
“Okay. After that, the same things from yesterday happened. Okay. But I have a question.”
“Yes, brother…”
“Then what did the saintess do wrong?”
“I was a whistleblower….”
“A whistleblower? How big of a whistle have you been whistling?”
“Don’t you ever find it strange, brother…?”
“What do you mean?”
“The reason why abstinence sects do not die. There are many sects on the continent. If you want to take refuge in the Goddess, there are many options even if she does not have to be castrated.”
I didn’t really think about it when I was playing the game, but now that I’ve heard it, it’s like that.
“Why is that?”
“Many of the male priests of the celibate sect… Come from orphanages secretly run by the sect…”
As soon as I heard that, I knew everything.
“Are you sure you are forcibly castrating orphans and making them priests belonging to the sect…?”
“Yes… If you are a priest who voluntarily came in with a faith overflowing enough to be castrated, why would you engage in homos*xuality, which is not permitted by the church…”
What is this crazy sound again… ?
No, wait.
In my head, after going through a collection of settings I knew, I remembered seeing a similar comment.
It wasn’t outright, it was something like ‘very few know the truth about why so many people join the sect without fear of being castrated’.
Was that the one?
“I found out the truth and reported it to the Church Headquarters…. If the sect had been passed down like that for hundreds of years, I couldn’t believe that the Church Headquarters had already known and tolerated it… Stupidly…”
“The death penalty is given for whistleblowing…”
“It’s okay to create a crime and cover it upside down…”
“That’s right…”
At this shocking remark, Leana touched her chin with a serious expression.
If she was like any other woman, she would have made a fuss about her, covering her mouth.
“Then, the saintess was sentenced to death within the sect due to a whistleblowing and was pushed along with other homos*xual priests to the implicit execution ground of extermination of demons? Under the control of an executioner called the Warden.”
Leana shortened the words of her saintess.
“Yes, sister…”
There I was raised with an important question.
“If there was such a situation, wouldn’t it have been better if you had told me. Even if it was because of the warden when we first met, it would have been nice if you had explained it even after killing the demon. Why did you do that?”
“That’s…”
The saintess let out her trembling sigh.
“He killed the Warden who was claiming ownership of the Devil’s Head… I was so scared I couldn’t even speak…
“Is that so?”
Are you timid or stupid….
“Not all clergymen are smart intellectuals…. I was lucky enough to manifest divine power and become a saint…
The saintess cried as she slammed her forehead into the table.
“So please help me… Please save me…”
Looking at such a saint, a good idea came to my mind.
A very, very good way to save a saint driven to the edge of a cliff and develop our guild.
Yes, yes. You can do that.
