Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Fateful Reunion
The opening ceremony for the start of the new school year was nearing its end when Akuma arrived. He entered the gymnasium and stood at the back. The principal was ending his speech.
"Even though we had a few students who were late today, let us hope that this new school year will be fruitful for everyone. Welcome to Seihou High School."
He made a snide glance at the direction of where Akuma was standing. After the ceremony, the students went to their designated classes. Akuma checked where his classroom was from the posted listings of classes outside the gymnasium. As he was walking towards his classroom, he was talking to himself quietly.
"So, I failed huh. And I have been living in this world as Jizen Akuma for 16 years. I still have all his memories and feelings, so I guess he is me. But now I have memories of when I was a Demon Lord."
Throughout the morning, he kept on thinking on how he was about to accomplish his goal of conquering the world, and at the last moment he failed. His mind was going through each and every strategy he planned and how he employed them. All his thoughts came to the conclusion that every step he took was flawless, as he was on the brink of success. But a mere instant changed everything.
During lunchbreak, he went to the rooftop to try and clear his thoughts.
"What am I supposed to this in this world now? I can't get rid of this feeling of frustration from failing at the last second."
He was standing near the handrails, his arms resting on them. He was looking at the sky, searching for answers. His confusion at the current situation and what he should do moving forward made him unaware of the time. As more time passed by, he said something to himself that sparked something in his head.
"What should I have done differently? Something I could do in THIS world that can still lead me to world domination? Maybe I should ask my dad."
He looked down and smirked at the thought of asking anything from his dad. His dad. 'What is my dad?' he thought.
"Oh, I got it."
---
Classes finished in the afternoon. During homeroom, their teacher, a male in his mid-30's and wearing large framed glasses, made an announcement.
"Lastly, for those who were late during the opening ceremony, you will be the ones on cleaning duty today. We'll settle the remaining schedule after we appoint our class reps tomorrow. That's all. Don't be late tomorrow. And making up excuses like there was 'a loud noise that caused you to pass out' won't fly, especially if no one else heard it."
He left the classroom after his speech. Once he was outside, the classroom erupted in excitement as everyone was talking with each other. Some to catch up, some to introduce themselves to their new classmates. All Akuma was thinking about was that everyone should hurry up and go home so he could start cleaning.
When most of his classmates left, Akuma stood up and went to the locker for cleaning supplies and equipment. He opened the door and took a bucket, broom and mop from inside. When he closed the door, there was someone standing beside him.
"Hi."
"Oh, crap!"
He dropped the bucket and tools.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to surprise you."
The person that was standing there was a girl with light orange hair, like the color of the setting sun, with a length just above her shoulders. One could say she is what people would classify as cute.
"Do you usually sneak up on people?"
"Sometimes."
"That's a weird hobby you got there. What are you doing here, anyway? Classes are over, and I need to clean up."
"Hey, me too!"
She seemed happy someone else was in the same predicament.
"Oh, a late comer as well, huh. Here, you sweep the floor. I'll mop."
They started cleaning the classroom, and while doing so, there was absolute silence. Sensing the awkwardness, the girl started the conversation.
"By the way, I'm Fukushuu Angelie. I don't think we've met before this school year."
"Jizen Akuma. I guess we haven't."
The conversation ended there. There was absolute silence again. After a while, she heard him mumbling something.
"I should be doing something more important than this. Damn that loud noise, whatever that was."
"You heard it, too?"
"Oh, you heard it? I thought I was the only one. The teacher didn't believe me. The day of his reckoning will come."
He then smirked sinisterly.
"Yeah, when I heard it, I lost consciousness and when I woke up, something changed within me… Sorry for saying vague things. Forget about it."
"Oh, that happened to me, too. What do you know, the same thing happened to us? What a coincidence."
Silence followed after that statement. They both froze standing, and the same thing ran through their minds. That this other person was also a reincarnation. The next thing that they thought of was who the other person was. Then, as if lightning passed through their brains, the answer became clear. They both jumped backward, creating a good distance from across each other. Akuma held his mop with his right hand as if it was a sword, pointing it toward her. Angelie, meanwhile, held the broom with both hands like a two-handed sword and pointed it towards him.
"You… you're the Saint, aren't you?"
"And I'm sure you're the Demon Lord. You can't hide your evil stench even if you tried."
"Heh, the way you carelessly approached me earlier means you didn't realize who I was."
He arrogantly pointed out the mistake of his adversary.
"What are you planning, Demon Lord?! Answer me!"
Her eyes were fiercer than how she normally looks. It was a sign that she believed the grave danger the man in front of him possessed.
"Whatever it is, you can't stop me this time. Last time was a fluke!"
Angelie seemed confused by what he said.
"Huh? But I didn't—"
"Let's finish this now!"
Akuma, eager to end his long-standing feud with the so-called Saint, prepared for an all or nothing maneuver.
"That's exactly what I want!"
They both closed their eyes and started to chant, still holding the tools as if they were swords.
"By my authority as the Demon Lord, I summon all dark energy…"
"By the providence given to me as the Saint, I call forth the holy power of heaven…"
"… and crush this insolent creature standing before me!"
"… to purge this vile monster infesting this world!"
Both of them opened their eyes at the same time and let out a scream that was heard even outside the classroom.
"GAAAAAHH!!—"
"HAAAAA!!—"
"If you're done cleaning, please leave the school and go home! And stop shouting!"
A red-haired male member of the student council entered the classroom and interrupted their shouting match, and then reprimanded them firmly. After the lecture, both of them went home on their separate ways, but glared at each other until they couldn't see the other person.
---
The next morning, Akuma woke up early and went to school immediately. Even if the Saint was going to the same school, he realized that there was nothing she could do to stop his new plan for domination. He went straight to the faculty office and approached the teacher responsible for club registration and activities in the school. She was a female teacher, Ms. Kibishii, who was in her late 20's. She formed a bun on her hair and wore glasses, making her image that of a strict one.
"Good morning. I would like to submit an application to start a Help Club in this school. I believe there is no such club that exists right now."
"Oh, a Help Club? That is rare these days."
The faculty room doors suddenly opened and a girl student rushed toward Ms. Kibishii, ignoring Akuma who was standing there. She had her head bowed down, while handing a piece of paper to the stunned teacher.
"Sensei, I'm Fukushuu Angelie from 2-B. Please accept this application for a club. I'd like to establish a Help Club in our school! Please!"
"Wow, two students who want to start the same club. And a Help Club at that. I didn't know there were such kids alive such as you two. This makes my heart full. Oh, I have the perfect idea! He can be the president and you can be the vice president. He was here earlier, so I think that is fair."
The teacher smiled gently, betraying her strict image. The two students didn't seem to understand immediately. They then looked at each other.
"Huh?! What are you doing?"
Akuma pointed at Angelie.
"You?! Why do you want to start a Help Club? You're the Demon Lord!"
Ms. Kibishii got up from her chair and stood between them. She then faced Angelie.
"Even if your boyfriend did something bad, calling him a Demon Lord is a bit much, don't you think?"
Both of them reacted at the same time.
"We're not like that!"
