chapter 12
12 – Conditions
The day after saving Destin and returning to the academy.
As Roel said, the imperial investigation team came to the academy.
Fortunately, it’s a formal investigation, so everyone skips morning class. Contrary to my worries about not being able to sleep at night due to anxiety, the investigation ended more blandly than I thought.
There were no deaths except for the guards, and it was probably because they had already investigated the town of Destin and figured out the situation based on the corpses of orcs and the testimonies of the villagers.
The investigative team listened to our statement without any doubt and even gave us a good word saying that a reward might come from the imperial family separately.
I wonder if the appearance of the Imperial Family Investigation Team attracted the attention of the students? In the academy, there were even detailed rumors that Roel and Ellie had defeated the orcs that were raiding the village.
I was not included in the rumors floating around. No, it was added late.
Funny enough, rumors first circulated that Roel and Ellie solved the orcs alone.
Let’s say, ‘Why did they stay together?’ Rumors quickly spread around the academy that Eli and Roel were dating.
A romance between a freshman and a senior in the second year. There was no way Roel’s woman would leave the rumors spreading throughout the academy as if on fire.
Flavia hurriedly said, ‘The two got caught up by chance because of Roel’s younger brother, Ross. Rumors about their relationship disappeared after pouring cold water on the burning rumors with the words, ‘They are just seniors and juniors in the neighborhood.’
There was a negative view from people about the fact that they were in danger because of me.
Even if it was a misunderstanding, it was also half true. Whatever the rumors were, my head was now filled with only one question.
—–
[Ring of oath]
―A ring imbued with the power of the covenant ‘Gias’.
It is a magical restraint and curse, but the shrewd gias gives powerful power.
◆ Current oath
– Promised to find a way to get rid of stone thorn disease in return for a keepsake to ‘Splin the Witch’. / Additional 3P for fulfillment of the oath.
– Repay Ellie’s trust.
◇ Current constraints
– Witch’s Curse / If you don’t find a way to get rid of stone thorn disease within 3 years, you die.
■ 1 Current oath.
– Witch Splin’s Oath 1P.
—–
That night when I joined forces with Ellie to attack the warlock. The oath was triggered spontaneously.
The situation was very urgent, and there was no time to look into it, so I was able to check it only now….
Although there was an oath to ‘repay Ellie’s trust’. For some reason, points and current oaths still haven’t been renewed, except for the witch’s curse.
Are there any special conditions to get points? I’m not sure how the oath was triggered in the first place.
I thought I should learn more about Gias, and I was eating alone. People around me heard rumors and glanced at me, talking among themselves. Little by little it started to bother me.
Wouldn’t this have an effect on a nervous breakdown? I hurriedly finished my meal and moved to the library.
When I stopped by the library to find out about the mutant orc raid. She also did some research on Gias, but couldn’t check it properly because there were so many books related to mythology.
Maybe because it is a huge library that anyone in the capital can use except for certain areas in return for receiving full support from the imperial family. There were so many books related to mythology that there was a separate section.
Immersed in thoughts about gias, I move my steps to a place where books on myths and artifacts are gathered. I didn’t see the person coming through the bookshelf and bumped my shoulder.
I wonder if that person didn’t even see me. The small girl was shocked by the sudden bump and she fell to the floor along with the book.
“Okay, are you okay?”
I hurriedly came to my senses and picked up a book that had fallen on the floor. We met eyes for a moment with eyes that were the color of the blue sea.
The blonde, blue-eyed woman looked at me with a look of embarrassment and shame, then lowered her gaze. She inadvertently followed his gaze and saw that she was trembling with her left fist clenched as far as she could see.
Do you feel resentment? Or is she just scared of me?
Let’s scratch the back of her head in her embarrassed mood. The nameless girl who raised her body received the book from me and disappeared as if running away with a small greeting of ‘thank you’ without even making eye contact with her.
She scratched the back of her head at the sight, reminded of her purpose for coming to her library, and moved on to check her book.
After the lunch break, after taking the afternoon class, stop by the library again and read speed-reading until the night to find something related to Gias. She checked several books, but there was no harvest yet.
When you get out of the library and head to the dining room for a late dinner. As if waiting for me, Rosalyn is sitting on a bench in front of the restaurant with a bored expression on her face.
“Why are you so late! You have to eat on time!”
“… Mom?”
Rosalynn narrowed her brows at my joke, then she suddenly looked around and raised the corners of her mouth slyly.
If you were born in modern times to change your expression so quickly, you would definitely be an actor. Because she was pretty like an actress.
For some reason, Rosalyn’s strangely happy look made her feel better. One of Rosalyn’s many charms was her smile, which made the viewer feel good.
“I heard from Roel. She said she helped Roel with my potion ~? She was so grateful to Roel that she was able to defeat the orcs thanks to her potion~”
“Certainly, if it wasn’t for the potion, it would have been difficult because of the injury.”
I was casually saying that Rosalyn’s potion was of great help. Suddenly, Rosalyn grabbed her by the arm and dragged her to the bench where she was sitting.
Her compliments make Rosalyn dance too. From how great the potion she made, to how Roel entrusted her with the mutant orc’s core, to Rosalyn’s way of telling her feelings as if she were my diary. .
She had a strange feeling that she had a conversation partner at the academy for the first time, so she just listened.
Actually, she felt hungry and bored halfway through and tried to slip away. There was also Rosalyn’s frightening gaze, which told her to hold her arm and listen to her own story.
“… Now, just in case, I prepared her potion this time too. The red bottle is the same as before, and the one in the blue bottle will heal the injured back. Oh, next time you need to use my potion on Roel, tell me. I’ll take care of Roel’s separately!”
In the end, it seems that the purpose of Rosalyn waiting for me was to give her potion again. It was an unexpected gift, so let her accept it with gratitude. Rosalyn tried to get up from her seat with her satisfied face on her face.
She wanted to hear other people’s opinions about Gias. She thought that this was the last chance for me, who had no one to talk to except Ellie, who was busy.
She hurriedly stopped Rosalyn from getting up from her seat.
“Do you know what an oath means?”
Rosalyn, who was getting up from her seat, heard me and she hurriedly sat down, she suddenly twisted her body with her shy face making her face.
“I promise, I swear~?”
Your voice has changed a little sweeter, as we were talking just before, no. I wondered if it was someone like Rosalyn, who was talking excitedly to herself.
“Why? Roel wants to swear something to me~? What… Promising a future with me, or using only my potions… ?”
That’s right. It’s strange to hear a good opinion from Roel Baragiin Rosalyn.
We talked about Roel for tens of minutes today, and the topic about potions lasted less than a minute.
When I was sighing inwardly and looking at Rosalyn, who was falling into a delusion in front of me, with a little pitiful eyes.
She shook her head abruptly, making her pink hair shake, then raised her hand and cupped her red-stained cheek.
“Did Roel say something to me? Tell me!”
“… It’s not like that.”
Maybe it was because she answered as if she was a bit pathetic. Rosalyn pursed her lips, then she asked why? She looked at me with a face that seemed to have the letters written on it.
She’s not enough with her mouth. Maybe she’s mastered the art of speaking with her face. As for Roel, it seemed like it would be a waste to give her the title of ‘Hosaga’.
“I was wondering what it would be like if there was a condition called an oath to magic.”
She can’t reveal anything about Gias, so she said softly. Then, Rosalyn thought it was a conversation related to magic. She pondered with a serious face, then she quickly put on a dumbfounded expression and scratched her head like an idiot.
“hehehe, wouldn’t that be an oath if it contains the sincerity that you will definitely keep it? Like I swore at her wedding. Ah, the other day, if you marry Roel, he will bless you….”
Rosalyn kept talking to herself after that, but I couldn’t hear her in my thoughts.
From Rosalyn’s words, I realized one thing. The sincerity that I will definitely keep.
The day I confronted the black magician. Contrary to my expectations, I sincerely thanked Ellie for believing in me without question, and I felt that she wanted to repay her trust no matter what.
Then the oath was activated…. If, as Rosalind said, making a sincere commitment was the condition for the activation of Gias’ oath… ?
“… I wonder if Roel would like that~”
“Thank you. It really helped me a lot.”
“Huh? That, yes! I’m glad you found it helpful.”
Rosalyn, who smiled brightly and said hehehe with a face that did not understand, wondered if she had finished what she had to say. The next time she stood up with her words that she would make a deal.
Satisfied that she found out her terms of the oath, she felt hungry and headed for the dining room.
“Ah.”
While she was caught by Rosalyn and listened to her story, the operation of the restaurant ended.
***
The next day.
With the potion Rosalyn gave me, I completely erased the scars on my back, got a good night’s sleep, and was eating breakfast with a more complicated mind than yesterday.
After finding out the activation conditions for the oath, a question came up.
What will happen if I don’t repay Eli’s trust? Am I dying like a witch’s curse?
However, since the oath was not subject to restrictions like the witch’s curse, wouldn’t it be possible to die? While thinking about that, while mashing potatoes with a fork. A thought suddenly popped into my mind.
Gias is a double-edged sword.
It is a setting that the stronger the oath and restrictions, the more things can be obtained.
The fact that the oath related to Ellie’s faith has not been activated right now. Isn’t it because there is only an oath, and there are no restrictions?
The hypothesis that popped into my head deepened my thoughts.
*
After the boring morning class, I skipped lunch and headed straight to the library. The most important thing to me right now was Geass.
Looking at the countless books, I sighed involuntarily. There must be something related to Gias in this… ?
When I was staring at the titles of the books and selecting the ones that seemed to be related to Gias as much as possible. Someone came up to me and said hello.
“No, hello….”
Inadvertently turning my head to the owner of the voice, I almost dropped the book I was holding.
Because the owner of the voice never had the personality to greet me first.
Golden hair that radiates more brilliance in the warm sunlight and green eyes that shine bright like emeralds.
With an appearance like a work of art created by God and flawless milky skin, many people treated Flavia as Roel’s wife.
At first, she was just an unassuming heroine, but as it turned out, she was a tsundere! It gained great popularity with the build-up that was steadily piled up belatedly.
But, only Roel is a tsundere. As set up, he was a character who made enemies on his own because he was not squeamish towards people who were not his favorite ‘Roel’.
For Flavia to greet me first instead of Roel. She was quite a surprise, and let’s put on a slightly reluctant expression because she was alert.
Are you quick to notice? She narrowed her brows and tried to get angry, but suddenly bit her lips as if holding back something from her, and smiled brightly, giving goosebumps for some reason.
“Do you like books?”
I felt the burden of her Flavia effort, as if she was struggling to get her words out to break her awkward atmosphere. Why would she do this so that this person doesn’t fit in.
“There is something I want to find….”
“That, is it? What is it?”
“It is related to mythology…. There are so many books that it is not easy to find them. I’m looking for something related to it one by one.”
“Ha, you can just find it in the librarian’s book, you bruise…. Didn’t you know that you were a doggie because you were naive? This can be happen….”
I think she was obviously trying to say that her nature was out of whack and she was stupid…. Why are you arguing in front of me? Even though I had doubts, I was curious about the unfamiliar word called a librarian’s book.
“What is a librarian’s book… ?”
“Ehh?! Really don’t know No, I don’t know about that, but I use the library…. Can do it Libraries are for learning things you don’t know~”
Trying not to get mad at me even as I distorted her face. Flavia biting her lip and changing her words, I was worried that I would turn around in bed, so I finally asked.
“Why are you acting so out of place all of a sudden? I’m a little scared.”
“What, what~? I used to be like this.”
Let’s look at Flavia’s answer as if she’s talking nonsense. She lowered her gaze slightly as she saw tendons rising from her forehead.
“Anyway, I don’t know how to use the librarian’s book. I will help you. Because I am a good person who helps others well!”
It can’t be. If it was the Flavia I knew, she would have sold it after seeing me falling over a rock. Because it wasn’t a character who would reach out and lift her up.
With a sense of caution and pressure, I had no choice but to follow Flavia.
