chapter 28
28 – Trust
Everyone is shocked that the food bag has been stolen. In particular, Lakar, who was in charge of the survival bag, was more shocked than others and bowed his head in apology to everyone in a frustrated look.
“I’m sorry. I wasn’t putting my bag down….”
Everyone offered words of consolation to Lakar, who blamed himself for his mistake.
“I can’t help it. Who would have guessed?”
“Raccoons are bad guys…. Who would have thought there would be a raccoon thief in the dungeon?”
“It’s okay. There must be a way….”
I could tell that I was in a good group by seeing the members of the group comforting Lacard. You might be angry about having your food stolen, or upset about the situation. The members of the crew who comforted Lakar felt sincerity, not lies or acting.
It was a warm atmosphere, but the worst situation was the same. In a situation where it was expected to take at least two days to clear the dungeon, they could not survive without food.
Of course, without me.
I decided to trust the good members who are putting their heads together to comfort each other and solve the situation. If it was a significant character in the novel, it would have been possible to predict what kind of setting it would have. All of these are extras that do not appear in the novel.
They are unknown extras who don’t know their personality, background, or environment, but I don’t want to see my first friend Lacard, who approached me first despite the malicious rumors, frustrated, and I think that the image they’ve shown so far is trustworthy enough. Opened his mouth to
“I can solve the food problem.”
At my sudden words, the members of the group who were debating to solve the problem shut their mouths and looked at me with surprised eyes.
“Jung, really?”
At Aria’s surprised question, I nodded her head and took out food from the space storage.
“The magic of space storage. You can store and retrieve things in the space in the dimension.”
Let’s take out the chocolate we received from Ellie as a test. Everyone was surprised and their eyes lit up.
“I have enough food for a day or so.”
At those words, the gloomy expressions brightened.
Let’s take out the leftover chocolate from the space warehouse, the beef jerky we bought after training, and a canteen full of water. Arya was in tears.
“Wow, what a great magic… ! What the hell is it like? Dimensional expansion magic? No, is it summoning magic?”
Arya, who was making a fuss about her, sent a burdensome gaze and came close enough to touch me, her eyes shining.
“It’s magic notarized by the principal.”
I can’t go into details, let’s use the principal as an excuse. As if understanding, Arya nodded her head.
“As expected, the magic is so great that it needs to be notarized… !”
She ignored Arya’s strained gaze and turned her head to her crew.
“Suddenly, I practiced, so there is only one day’s worth of food in the warehouse. In the current situation, I think the only way left is to clear the dungeon as quickly as possible.”
Everyone nodded as if they agreed with what I said.
“Thanks Ross for giving me a chance to make up for my mistake. I will try really hard.”
I said with a smile to Lakar, who sincerely thanked me.
“You’re still doing well enough, Lacar. And though it’s my opinion, I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the raccoon thief appeared.”
At my words, Lakar asked with his eyes shining.
“Why?”
“Think about it. He said that this practice is to develop the ability to respond to sudden variables. A raccoon thief suddenly appears in the dungeon and runs away with the food bag? It’s like a deliberately induced situation, to see how we would react if we ran out of food.”
Everyone nodded as if they understood my explanation. That’s why the appearance of the thief raccoon was strange, and it was a big variable in attacking the dungeon.
And one thing…. I didn’t tell the members, but the reason why I’m sure my guess is correct.
When I made eye contact with the thieving raccoon, the smile he gave me was the same as Nelson’s mischievous smile I’d seen the other day.
Perhaps not only us, but also the other groups went crazy after being attacked by a raccoon thief, and are making good memories?
In case the raccoon thief resembling Nelson appears again, I put the expedition bag in the space storage.
After sharing chocolate and water and taking a short break, we kept our ranks and walked hard to get out of the maze.
*
Thanks to Kane’s ability to detect traps, we removed or avoided traps that appeared midway through and moved on, finally arriving at the stage.
Open the door and enter the stage. White striped ants the size of a man caught my eye.
“A white striped ant. They are weaker than goblins now, but as time goes by, the ants will become stronger because of the pheromone emitted by the queen ant. Getting rid of the queen ant is the priority, but….”
As Kane explained, he let out a low saliva.
“It’s a problem because it’s difficult to kill the queen ant in a situation where the ants are protecting it. The queen ant itself has no fighting power, but if you use magic or approach it, the queen ant will almost certainly run away into the burrow-“
The spear from the dimensional exit pierced the head of the queen ant. Seeing me pulling out the spear at the entrance to the dimension, Kane looked at me with her dumbfounded face.
“All right. Now let’s clean up the remaining ants.”
In a situation where everything was already disclosed to the members, there was no need to save strength. Above all else, because of the food problem, the battle had to end as quickly as possible.
When the queen ant died, the ants started going crazy. As Kane said, ants who lost their queens were weaker than goblins.
While Lakar and I stopped the ants from charging, Aria’s fire magic and Luna’s secondary magic spread the flames, and most of the ants were burned to death.
After cleaning up and leaving the stage, Kane, who had been making a foolish expression until then, shouted.
“It’s a complete scam! To be able to assassinate from a distance while being melee!”
Aside from Aria, one more person has been added, whose eyes light up uncomfortably.
“That’s right, it’s an incredibly superior magic. The uses are endless.”
As if she asked if she knew now, she was a little dumbfounded by the way she shrugged her shoulders. Her slyness kept the good vibes going.
After a short break, we continued through the maze using the left hand method.
There were several monsters attacking me while I was walking, but to make up for my mistakes, I cut off his throat with my sword as soon as Lakar, who was in a super-concentrated state, appeared.
As a result of diligently enduring traps and surprises, we finally found a set of stairs that led us out of the maze and down.
“How about setting up a safe zone here today?”
I nodded in agreement with Lakar’s words. Because of the food problem, they forced themselves to march, shortening their rest and walking.
The fatigue accumulated from dealing with goblins, beast rabbits, and white striped ants was great, and it might not be possible to take a break when you go downstairs.
“Then I’ll set up a safe zone, everyone rest.”
Let’s talk while taking out the exploration bag from the space warehouse. Everyone sat down and rested their tired legs. Lakar, as if he still felt guilty, helped to set up a safe zone without rest.
The safe zone has the effect of warning magic to notify the approach of monsters and preventing the smell and noise inside the safe zone from escaping to the outside. Thanks to that, there was no need to set up a night watch, so it was a very important item in a place where clearing took a long time like this dungeon.
Let’s finish setting up the safe zone and return to Lakar and his crew. Luna was checking downstairs with guidance magic without resting.
As if the magic was over, Luna wrapped her chalk back in her paper and put it in her arms.
“Downstairs is like a mine.”
“A mine?”
“It is a structure that keeps digging underground. There are many paths, but in the end they come together towards the deepest. It goes down so deep that the guidance magic can’t even reach it.”
Lakar said at Luna’s explanation.
“There is probably a stage at the deepest level. There must be a dungeon boss there. There could be an ambush on the way down.”
I put my hand on Lakar’s shoulder as he was worried about the ranged attack.
“If you do it like today, you will be able to respond well tomorrow. Let’s rest without worries today.”
There was no need to worry in advance. There could be no attack when they went down, and going down itself could be a problem.
In the end, no matter how much I thought about it without knowing the situation downstairs, nothing was resolved.
Fortunately, La Carre nodded his head as if he understood what I meant.
We simply distributed beef jerky and chocolate with the team members. There is almost no food now, so it was a bit dangerous if we couldn’t clear it tomorrow.
Is there any way to get food in the dungeon? Thinking about it, I took out the exploration bag from the space warehouse and took out a small box containing a sleeping bag inside.
When I put the palm-sized box down on the floor, the shrinking magic on the box disappeared and the sleeping bag was revealed.
Take out the adventure bonfire from the adventure bag and set it up. After the meal, the team members brought sleeping bags and laid them in a circle around the campfire.
“This is the first time I’ve actually seen an adventure campfire.”
Luna and Kane also nodded their heads at Aria’s shining eyes as if she were curious.
“No smoke. A bonfire that does not require firewood, it seems that the Faculty of Magic is really good at making unusual items like this.”
At Kane’s words, Luna, the Faculty of Magic, smiled happily.
Everyone was happy at first with the atmosphere as if they were at a camping trip, but everyone was tired because of the three big battles that day.
The conversation continued for a very short time, and one by one they fell asleep. I heard good night greetings several times.
Looking at the sleeping members, I fell into a strange feeling.
This world was a novel I made up. A world where the imagination in my head was turned into writing, and the writing turned into reality.
The story of the hero Roel and the heroines who will save the world is the main content of this world.
But get out of the story. Becoming friends with people who were not in my imagination or novels, protecting each other and having conversations made me feel an inexplicable strange feeling.
Even though I know that all of this is a fake I made up, on the other hand, I had a double heart, wishing all of this was real.
I don’t know if it was the realization as a writer who slaughtered the villagers with a single line he wrote without thinking, or if it was because he became friendly with his crew members for a day….
Their lives and efforts. I sincerely hoped that it would not exist as a by-product for Roel’s story.
Thinking about that, in the end I couldn’t stand the tiredness and fell asleep.
