The Hero's Descendant is the Reincarnation of an Infamous Fey Lord

Chapter 5: Truth of the Dreams

As Eogan approached the line of trees, a sudden flicker of movement caught his eye. He stopped dead in his tracks. A bundle of red flowers danced through the air, their petals fluttering as if carried by an invisible force. It was as if the flowers were alive, moving with an uncanny autonomy.

"Master! I found several!" the sprite's voice was filled with excitement and a hint of pride.

Eogan couldn't help but smile, his heart lifting slightly at her enthusiasm. "Great job, thank you," he said, a slight relief in his voice. He stretched out his hands to catch the flowers as she dropped them into his palm. The flowers were delicate, their bright red petals striking against the muted greens and browns of the forest.

"Heehee, no problem at all!" The sprite's voice bubbled with joy, her tone light and playful. "I found more than that, but I couldn't carry anymore."

Eogan nodded, inspecting the flowers. "One, two, three, four flowers. That's plenty." His eyes darted around as a thought crossed his mind. "You're still invisible. I don't know where to look when talking to you."

"Oops," the sprite chirped, and with a sudden poof, she materialized near his hand.

Eogan blinked, startled by her sudden appearance. He gazed at her carefully, trying to shake off the unease creeping up his spine. "What should I call you? Do you have a name?"

She tilted her head, clearly thinking deeply, her golden eyes narrowing as she considered the question. "I did have a name in the past, but... you're supposed to give me a new one since you made a contract with me."

"Ah, right. Let me think." Eogan's gaze lifted to the sky, his mind racing for an answer. His thoughts drifted back to the strange dreams that had plagued his sleep recently. Leanan, he thought. The name had appeared in his dream, and something about it felt right.

After deliberation, he smiled faintly and said, "Your name will be Leanan."

The sprite froze. Her wings fluttered erratically, and her expression shifted into one of shock. "Leanan..." Her voice wavered, and Eogan could almost feel her hesitation.

"Do you not like it?" he asked, feeling a knot of concern twist in his stomach.

"No, that's not it..." Leanan's voice trailed off as she processed the name. "I'm just trying to figure out why you gave me the same name as my previous master."

Eogan's frown deepened. "Your previous master?"

"Yes," Leanan explained, her voice full of pride yet laced with bittersweet nostalgia. "It was a long time ago. He raised me from infancy, and he was the best tamer in the world—probably even in history."

Eogan's heart skipped a beat at the mention of her past master. Fergus Mor. The name felt like a distant echo in his mind. He blinked, feeling the weight of his thoughts settle heavily in his chest. "Truth is, I had a dream about a sprite named that, and I thought it would suit you."

"EH! A dream! Those can be quite significant to tamers," Leanan exclaimed, her voice rising excitedly. Her wings buzzed faster as she flitted around him in a whirl of motion, her energy radiating in frantic bursts. "Could it be that? Is that why?"

Eogan stared at her, feeling completely out of his depth. "What?"

Leanan's wings stopped mid-beat, and the whirlwind of wind around them calmed instantly. Her eyes narrowed as she focused on him, her voice dropping to a more serious tone. "My previous master was Fergus Mor."

A sudden surge of memories hit Eogan like a tidal wave. His head spun as fragments of thoughts and images flooded his mind. He gasped for air as though the memories were too much to process, and his legs buckled beneath him. The world around him tilted, and his vision blurred.

Leanan, seeing the impact of her words on him, shifted. Her wind darkened to a sickly green, and her eye became an unsettling golden hue. The breeze that made up her form began to churn violently, her power spiraling out of control.

Eogan, struggling to hold himself together, couldn't fully comprehend the changes before his eyes. His body trembled with the strain of the overwhelming memories, and as his consciousness slipped away, the wind around him softened.

Leanan summoned a gentle breeze to lower him to the ground, her wings slowing as she hovered protectively above him.

"It was that," she said softly, her voice full of quiet satisfaction as she perched on Eogan's chest. Her wings beat with a calming rhythm, waiting for him to awaken.
