Chapter 24: Chapter 24: The Will of Fire.
There's never been a perfect plan in this world.
And Hyuga Hitoshi, in his normal state, never prides himself on having the intellect to crush others.
The combination punch he's thrown at the old village chief isn't some high-end operation, far from perfect, and doesn't hold up to scrutiny.
The key to this combination is to guide public opinion, to take the blame placed on the Uchiha clan as the suspected masterminds behind the Nine-Tails' chaos and share it with the old village chief.
To wash the Uchiha clan from being the confirmed masterminds behind the Nine-Tails' chaos to being the suspected ones, and then to make others realize what the Uchiha gained after the disaster, and what the old village chief gained.
That's enough. The lethality of this combination has been demonstrated. Hyuga Hitoshi's original intention remains unchanged, to coax Fugaku into leading the Uchiha charge, to buy time for the dual blossoming of the Hyuga clan.
But you can't have too much faith in the Uchiha's hotheaded youngsters; in their excitement, they might really persuade Fugaku to launch a coup.
So he's here to help identify and fill the gaps, and incidentally, to get Fugaku to rein in his clansmen, to not get too inflated too quickly, to slow down the showboating. Flipping the table now, whether for the Uchiha or the Hyuga, is not a good thing.
The open conspiracy designed for the old village chief is still to come; there's no need to rush.
However, Hyuga Hitoshi didn't expect Kakashi to be among the Anbu monitoring the Uchiha.
But considering the timeline, it's understandable.
The Fourth died in the Nine-Tails' chaos, and the nightmare strikes again. It's strange if Kakashi could settle down; killing people in the Anbu is what he wants to do most.
In the original story, it's only when the youngsters are about to graduate that the Third Hokage realizes something seems wrong with Kakashi's spirit, and he lets him cool down by babysitting.
If one were to summarize the current state of Kakashi...
"Struggling in confusion, numbing himself by being a hardworking and compliant dog, his eyes devoid of light."
Hyuga Hitoshi feels a twinge of pity for Kakashi's plight.
He wonders if the force with which he had someone throw an egg just now could wake Kakashi up, to understand that the knife called public opinion can be wielded for oneself, and to realize that it was never his father's rescued comrade or the so-called villagers who drove his father to death, but the old village chief standing behind them, weapon in hand.
Look at how quickly Fugaku has grasped this power.
Then look at Kakashi, lost in confusion, still wanting to take the fall for the Third Hokage?
Helplessly, since he's here to check for deficiencies, Hyuga Hitoshi has no choice but to take action.
Even though the power he currently wields, belonging to the Byakugan, is still in the beggar category, combining his previous sudden enlightenment on eye techniques, he can still use his ocular power to give others a slight psychological suggestion, to bring out their inner doubts and dissatisfaction.
As it turns out, Kakashi isn't particularly loyal to the Hokage. With a little guidance, his inner thoughts are amplified.
"Brother, what's this?"
Hyuga Hitoshi appears, which is part of the plan, but the clever Fugaku pretends not to understand, while Uchiha Satoshi, standing beside him, looks at his Patriarch with a slightly different gaze.
It's not for any other reason; he sees a green leaf blown onto the Patriarch's head and hesitates whether to help by giving a reminder.
"I'm fine, just taking a stroll, brother. You do what you need to do, don't mind me."
After a sharp glance at the Anbu pinned to the ground and finding no issues, Patriarch Hitoshi's gaze becomes amiable again.
"Oh, right, brother."
Slapping his head, Hitoshi speaks up again.
"My sister-in-law plans to catch up with her friend tonight, so she won't be coming home. Just giving you a heads-up."
Do you really have to say it here?
Fugaku's expression changed instantly, feeling countless eyes targeting his head. Annoyed and embarrassed, Fugaku barked at the onlookers.
"What are you looking at? My wife and my brother's wife are good friends! What's wrong with her staying over at my brother's place for one night?"
Oh, Patriarch.
You might as well not explain.
Isn't this just self-incrimination?
Uchiha finally couldn't hold back. He sighed softly, walked up to the Patriarch, and brushed the leaves off his head.
"Patriarch, we should focus on the important matters."
Yes, the important matters.
He still has to interrogate the prisoners!
The Patriarch is busy with his career; he has no time for love stories.
Seeing more and more villagers gathering, Fugaku didn't dawdle. With a grand gesture, he led his people towards the central square.
Of course, before leaving, he didn't forget to invite Hitoshi to bear witness.
And when it comes to punishing evil and promoting good, Hitoshi naturally took the lead, happily joining the procession.
"We must instill the right values from a young age. I've noticed that only a few in our village truly embody the Will of Fire."
Inside the Hokage's office, the Third Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen, puffed on his pipe, speaking kindly to the two ninjas standing below.
The slightly younger ninja stood numbly, waiting for orders.
"We can't let our children suffer in poverty or lack education. No matter what, we mustn't have any issues with our ideology."
"Otherwise, it's easy to fail in spreading certain strategies promptly, leading to losses and misunderstandings among the people, causing unnecessary trouble."
The old village chief, with a face full of kindness, emphasized these key points.
Hearing the chief's words, the older ninja fell into thought.
Considering the chief's previous hints and his current attitude.
Eureka!
He took out his notebook and began writing furiously in front of the chief.
In just a minute, he completed a proposal for the reform of the Ninja Academy and handed it to Sarutobi Hiruzen.
The chief patiently read through the proposal, his smile growing even warmer.
He nodded at the man and returned the proposal.
"Good, the reconstruction of the Ninja Academy and the revision of the textbooks are now your responsibility."
"Yamazaki Ryuji, I hope you won't disappoint me. I think you're well-suited for the position of Director of Education!"
The ninja named Yamazaki Ryuji bowed respectfully and then led the younger ninja out of the Hokage's office.
"Uncle Ryuji, may I see your proposal?"
The younger ninja asked, a bit bewildered.
He had come to gain some experience, and reading the proposal would help him work more smoothly in the future, especially since he was already dedicated to the cause of education.
"Of course, you can."
Yamazaki Ryuji ruffled Iruka's hair and handed him the proposal.
He hoped this unfortunate child, who lost his family in the Nine-Tails incident, could recover from his grief soon.
And this proposal might just give his fragile heart a little shock.
Indeed.
As Iruka's eyes fell on the proposal, he fell silent.
The content wasn't complicated, but it was entirely different from what he knew.
Especially the first point.
"According to our research, the new generation in Konohagakure lacks loyalty to the Hokage and the village. Some even think it's justified to criticize the Hokage's actions during the previous wars. I believe this is fundamentally unhealthy, hence the suggestion."
"The Ninja Academy's textbooks were lost during the Nine-Tails incident. I will refine them, and the new textbooks will emphasize the Will of Fire you proposed."
"And your great deeds leading the village to victory in the Third Great Ninja War should not be buried. I believe that the title of 'Strongest Hokage' can be a multi-faceted representation. Your strength should not be forgotten, and you truly deserve the title of 'strongest.' This concept is worthy of being included in textbooks for future generations to observe and learn from."
"Everything about the Kage is objectively correct. Questioning or distrusting it will affect the village's development. I suggest that the grades of the ideological education class be considered a priority in the ninja school, and only those who pass can graduate."
After a long pause, Iruka put down the proposal.
But Yamazaki Ryuji sighed.
It was clear from Iruka's eyes.
The child...
He is now more confused than ever.
