[The Knight’s Multiverse] – A Knight’s Journey: A Cultivator’s journey in a Superhuman’s Modern World

Chapter 58 – An exhausting ride back home

Hello, dear readers! Here's chapter 58!

I just finished writing and editing Chapter 66 (Available on Patreon) and I noticed that the chapters seemed to lengthen more and more... And here I was thinking when I started that I would only write a maximum of 2000 words per chapter... What a naive thought! Oh well, at least you all get more content per chapter.

Anyway, enjoy the chapter and I'll see you next week!

Demian's P.O.V.

After having put on the set of clean clothes he prepared before the operation, Demian could not help but rub his eyes in a vain attempt to remove his growing exhaustion. He then went to bring the pile of bloody clothes to the building before throwing them into the furnace, destroying most of the evidence that could formally incriminate their family. ‘We’ve probably missed a few things, but as long as there’s no corpse they could find, we should be fine. Plus, why would those corrupt officials care that much about a dead man? They don’t even care about the living people.’ He thought grimly as his unfocused eyes were directed toward the raging flame moving in a trance-inducing pattern below. The dazed state he was in lasted for a while before the curiosity transmitted through the Soul Bond woke him up. “Wondering what I’m doing, uh?” He mumbled while turning around to walk back to the three women waiting outside for him. Unlike what he thought, however, the three were already waiting for him in their respective cars, with Sera riding with her mother.

After mouthing ‘sorry for the wait’, he moved quickly to ‘his’ SUV, sat in the driver’s seat, which was now covered with a plastic sheet, ignited the engine, and finally started driving toward the Yakovich Junkyard located five minutes away. Around 10 minutes later, the four were standing a bit away from the crushing machine, looking with relief as the two cars were slowly destroyed, which meant that another big piece of evidence pointing in the family’s direction disappeared along with them. Once they witnessed the full demise of the two vehicles, Bryn went to switch her bloody clothes for something cleaner, and, after a small inquiry, was gifted an empty barrel and some comburent to help the process of her ‘waste management’ as the junkyard manager put it.

“For the planet, right?” He mumbled wryly, eliciting some tired smiles from the three women standing in a circle around the burning barrel. Shaking her head, the giant redhead turned toward her mother and claimed. “You and Dem should go get your car together.” Throwing a brief glance at his cousin’s muscle car, his gaze then fell on her muscular body before asking rhetorically. “The size?” Nodding helplessly, she replied. “The size.” Silent for a second, she then added. “To be honest, it’s starting to get old really fast...” Gazing at her with sympathy, he said. “I understand the feeling. I’m barely fitting inside your car as I am, and it’s already annoying, so...” Clapping her hand once, his Aunt exclaimed with a stiff smile. “Why don’t we get moving people? The faster we get the car, the faster we’ll get home.”

The mental exhaustion displayed through her tone prompted the blue-eyed young man to instantly agree and follow the woman to the only car left out of the three they came to the junkyard with. As for the two sisters, they chose to remain there to make sure that the incriminating pieces of fabric would be completely consumed by the time they came back. While Adeliya and Demian were walking toward the car, the latter suddenly exclaimed. “By the way... Give me the keys. You look too tired to drive.” Contrary to what he thought, the mature woman did not let a single word of protest but instead handed him the car key before slumping listlessly into the driver's seat. As if to prove his previous point, the sound of deep breathing quickly began to resound in the car interior almost as soon as he was settled in the driver’s seat.

Staring at her sleeping face for a few seconds, he muttered helplessly. “I wish the four of us could live simple and safe lives...” Shaking his head, he shoved that unrealistic thought to the side and grabbed a CD case from the glove box before taking the disk inside and inserting it into the CD player. He then briefly fiddled with the volume so that his sleeping passenger would not be disturbed. Done with his preparation, he turned on the ignition and started driving toward the parking lot housing his Aunt’s SUV located around 20 minutes away. With the car being propelled along the relatively empty road and Chill Synthwave playing from the car speakers, Time seemed to slow down and space seemed to lose its structure. It was to the point that his mind reached a trance-like state of relaxation, which appeased his strained mind and loosened his tense body. Truthfully, only the presence of the sleeping woman beside him kept him partially anchored to reality and helped him recall the direction he was supposed to follow.

Instead of panicking at the strange sensation, the young man leaned into it, keeping only enough focus to drive without getting into an accident, while the rest of his mind was ‘busy’ floating into an ocean of music punctuated by the city light shining in the background. It felt almost… transcendent… Similar to the effect he imagined psychedelic drugs would have on one’s perception. ‘The human mind is really one of the most incredible mysteries in the universe…’ A thought briefly surfaced before disappearing almost as quickly as it appeared, leaving plenty of room for him to enjoy the comfortable sensation without being distracted. Unfortunately, the ride, and thus that particular state, only lasted around twenty minutes, before ending as Demian noticed the parking lot he was looking for at the other end of the street he was in. Feeling a bit disappointed, he nonetheless did not have too much regret. After all, his own life would be very long, if not endless, so it was highly possible that he would encounter something similar in the future. He also knew that his two female cousins were waiting back at the junkyard, so he did not want to take too much time to go back there.

Those thoughts traversed his mind as the car stopped right by the SUV’s side. ‘We’re lucky there’s so many empty spots.’ He inwardly exclaimed before rubbing his tired eyes. Turning his head toward his sleeping Aunt, he muttered wryly. “I guess we’ll have to come back for Bryn’s car…” Shaking his head, he left the car and went to open the SUV’s passenger door. He then walked back to the smaller car to help his Aunt. The image of the usually strong woman drooling on herself brought a light chuckle out of him. He did not waste too much time, though, before bending his body, carefully grabbing her body, and finally lifting her out of the interior without bumping her anywhere. She did fidget a bit when his hands reached behind her back and her knees, making him a bit nervous for a brief moment.

Luckily, she soon settled down after he softly whispered some reassuring words. Her subconscious trust brought both a warm feeling to his heart and a grin to his face before he proceeded to walk to the taller vehicle. Once there, he placed the woman in the passenger seat as delicately as he could. It seemed to have worked since she did not awaken. Instead, she had a carefree smile plastered on her face, making him purposefully ignore the saliva she left on his own ‘clean’ hoodie. Wiping his imaginary sweat, the blue-eyed young man mumbled. “That’s one thing done. Now…” A minute later, Demian was driving the burgundy-colored SUV with its speakers playing the same music he had been listening to for the last 20 minutes. The same amount of time later he was back at Yakovich’s Junkyard, chatting with his two female cousins who commented briefly on their mother’s funny sleeping posture in the passenger seat.

“She’s been super tense since the day I got knocked out by Petrovich’s goons... So, with that guy gone, I think both her mind and body went into resting mode.” Pausing for a second as something came to his mind, he added. “That and she killed her first human being in cold blood...” The other two nodded tiredly, prompting him to declare. “I think we’re all exhausted, so let’s just leave this place, if you girls don’t mind.” Between him and his oldest cousin, he felt the most ‘rested’, and thus opted to drive back to the muscle car himself, which added another 20 minutes of boring driving to their already mind-taxing night. ‘Long drives are true nightmares! Why can’t they invent something like a teleporter? Wait! In the novels I’ve read in the past, high-level cultivators could teleport... Does that mean... Maybe I’ll be able to do the same in the future?’

The young man then spent the rest of the way in wishful thinking while the other two awake passengers were silently gazing at the road and lights passing by. After what felt like forever for Demian, they were back to the parking lot where the muscle car was parked, and knowing that he would have to drive it back to the penthouse almost made the 2m10 muscular man cry. Thankfully, his mental strength was great and he quickly calmed himself, helped by the fact that complaining would not magically bring the four people and the two cars to their building. He thus gritted his teeth and, after a few words with his two cousins, walked toward the smaller vehicle before settling in the passenger seat, ready to turn the ignition on. At that point, however, he heard the passenger car door open and close swiftly. Turning his gaze to his right with slight anticipation, he found Sera’s figure seated there, with a big smile on her face.

After a small chuckle escaped him, the young man asked playfully. “Miss me already?” Nodding her head, she replied in a surprisingly serious tone. “I always like being around you, babe. But that’s not why I came. I felt your emotions through the bond, so I thought you might appreciate some company.” His previously amused grin turned warm after his mind registered her words. Letting out a tired sigh, he remarked. “You really read me like an open book, don’t you?” With an amused grin on her face, she replied. “Being Soul Bonded to your lover would do that to anyone.” Scratching his chin subconsciously, he exclaimed. “Fair enough. And you were right. I do need company. Your company. I will probably need it for as long as I live.”

Setting her head on his shoulder, she softly said. “Now you’re being corny.” Followed a second later. “But I like it.” The two lovers then bantered, flirted, and had an overall good time during the journey back, with Demian not feeling Time passing by to the point that he even felt mildly surprised when their garage door entered his sight. Turning his head slightly to his right, he gently kissed his caring girlfriend and commented. “It’s true what they say. If you drive with someone you love by your side, time completely disappears.” Giggling at his words, she replied. “Nobody but you says that, you sweet man!” “Really? But I‘m sure I heard that somewhere...” He exclaimed playfully while tapping his chin, which triggered her laughter once more, followed quickly by the man himself. Nothing too eventful happened afterward as the two cousins parked the two cars in the garage, before taking the elevator to the penthouse, with Bryn bringing Adeliya in her arms. The scene was somewhat funny to the young man with the huge difference between the two women’s sizes. He, however, kept silent with only a small grin betraying his inner thoughts.

Once at the apartment, the giant redhead brought her mother to her bedroom while the couple left for their own room, which was previously Demian’s. Closing the door, he had to quickly brace himself as his charming lover immediately jumped on him with her legs wrapped around his waist to stabilize herself and her arms casually settling around his neck. With an enticing smile that perfectly emphasized her soft lips, she demanded. “Demian Mikhailov, I want you inside me ASAP.” Her words worked as intended as his arousal, which had already reached a high threshold, suddenly shot through the roof, prompting him to reply in his magnetic voice. “With pleasure, my lovely Seraphine Mikhailov.” Before bringing his lips against hers in a kiss that turned from chaste to heated in a matter of seconds.

Unlike their usual slow love-making session where they enjoyed taking their time to squeeze as much pleasure as they could from every part of the process, this time the two seemed too hungry for each other to care about slowing themselves down. The fact that, with the Soul Bond acting, the two’s bodies were properly aroused and thus did not need any foreplay for the following event, did help. While taking off their respective clothes, the supernaturally handsome young man licked his lips hungrily while his eyes revealed the desire currently consuming his heart and mind. “Delicious!” He commented after tasting her lips again on his.
