Chapter 7: The Secret That Must Not Be Revealed
The storm raged, covering everything in the Korexa Mountains with a thick layer of snow. The wind howled as if nature itself were rebelling against the intruders. Kai, Reika, and Miko could barely move forward, battling the blizzard. The snow was deep, and every step was a struggle. Their hoods were soaked, and their coats covered in ice.
Kai leaned forward, trying to endure the wind's gusts, and paused for a moment, resting on his sword like a walking stick.
Kai:
(shouting to be heard over the wind)
"Reika, if we survive this, I promise I'll listen to one of your pieces of advice for the first time in my life! Can we, please, find a cave? Or at least a giant bear to warm us up?"
Reika, who was a few steps ahead, turned around. Her gaze was sharp, but her eyes were serious. Her hood covered most of her face, but the wind occasionally revealed dark strands of hair stuck to her cheeks.
Reika:
"A bear might actually do you a favor! This isn't the time for jokes, Kai. The Sphere carries power that can attract... things."
Miko, who was walking behind them, carried a large backpack with his inventions, which looked too heavy for his slender frame. Occasionally, he stopped to adjust one of his devices, which flashed with blue light.
Miko:
(coughing from the cold)
"Reika, I think 'things' might be a more accurate term for what awaits us. The Sphere is affecting this area! I've been tracking energy anomalies since we got here, and... well, let's just say this place isn't exactly stable."
Kai leaned on his sword and turned toward him.
Kai:
(sarcastically)
"So, you're telling me we came to the worst possible place because... what? We wanted some adventure?"
---
Arrival at the Cave of the Ancients
The snow beneath them suddenly gave way. Kai didn't even have time to scream before the ground literally disappeared beneath his feet. It pulled Reika and Miko with it, and they all found themselves falling through a dark tunnel. The wind hissed around their ears as they plummeted.
Kai:
(shouting as they fell)
"Reika, I told you I hate surprises!"
They all landed with a thud on a hard, frozen floor. Kai groaned as he stood up, brushing snow off himself.
Kai:
"Tell me no one filmed this."
Reika was already on her feet, leaning on her sword and examining their surroundings. The walls of the cave glimmered with a faint blue light. They were covered in ancient symbols, similar to those in the Norak temple, but much older and more complex.
Reika:
(in awe)
"This isn't just any cave... This is the Cave of the Ancients. Look at these symbols. This is the place where Ether might have been born for the first time."
Miko stood up, carefully checking his backpack to see if his precious device had survived the fall.
Miko:
(excited)
"Wait, Reika, are you saying we're literally in the epicenter of Ether's creation? This is monumental! If we could decode these runes..."
He stopped as his device began beeping. The energy indicator showed spikes.
Miko:
"Uh-oh. This is not good. These runes aren't just decorative. They actively channel Ether."
---
An Unexpected Visitor
As they examined the space, a deep voice echoed through the cave. It was cold, resonant, and carried an ancient weight. The voice didn't come from a direction—it seemed to fill the space around them.
Voice:
"Intruders in the home of the Ancients. What do you seek?"
Kai instinctively drew his sword, taking a defensive stance.
Kai:
(shouting toward the unseen source)
"Whoever you are, show yourself! If you plan to eat us, at least give us a last wish!"
Reika shot him a sharp look but said nothing. Her focus was on the figure emerging from the shadows. It was a tall, slender man, illuminated by light that seemed to come from nowhere. His silver hair and golden eyes made him unnaturally beautiful, and his clothes looked like relics from another age.
Unknown Man:
"I am Arkan, the last guardian of the Ether. You have stepped onto forbidden ground."
---
The Secrets of the Ether
Arkan raised his hand, and the space around them transformed. The walls became transparent, revealing a massive city beneath the ice. Ancient towers were frozen in time, and the starry sky above them shimmered like a reflection on water.
Arkan:
"This was our world. The world of the Ancients. Ether was our gift to the universe, but greed destroyed us."
Kai stared at the scene in disbelief.
Kai:
"Wait... You're telling me this is... some other world? How is it possible no one knew about this?"
Arkan:
"Because you weren't meant to know. People weren't ready for this power. You have destroyed what we created."
His voice grew colder.
Arkan:
"And now, you carry a part of that power. If it falls into the wrong hands, history will repeat itself."
Reika took a step forward, her face tense.
Reika:
"Why? Why weren't the Spheres destroyed? Why did you leave them?"
Arkan looked at her with sadness.
Arkan:
"Because we believed the world could change. That someone would use the power for good. But now... I'm not so sure."
---
Zorak's Threat
Before they could continue their conversation, the cave trembled. A familiar figure appeared from the darkness. Lord Zorak, surrounded by dark Ether energy, stood with a smile on his face.
Zorak:
"What a lovely family. Arkan, the last guardian, and his little helpers."
Kai stood in front of Reika and drew his sword.
Kai:
"Zorak, you again? What are you doing here? You don't get invitations for hangouts, yet here you are!"
Zorak laughed.
Zorak:
"I came for what belongs to me. Hand over the Sphere, or this place will become your grave."
Battle in the Cave of the Ancients
Before anyone could respond to Zorak, Arkan raised his hand. His eyes glowed with the light of pure Ether, and the entire space trembled as if the Ether itself had become unstable.
Arkan: (coldly and decisively)
"This sanctuary will not be your prey, Zorak. Enough destruction has already been caused by your dark energy."
Zorak extended his hand, creating a dark veil of energy around himself, forming blades made of pure darkness.
Zorak:
(ironically)
"Ah, the guardian of Ether. You still believe in that illusion of pure power? Let me teach you how true power is used!"
With a swing of his hand, the dark blades flew toward the group. Kai instinctively used his sword to protect Reika, while Miko jumped behind a stone, already tinkering with his device.
Kai:
(shouting as he strikes with his sword)
"Reika! I hope your plan involves something smarter than 'hit and hope for the best!'"
Reika didn't respond. Instead, she stepped forward with her sword. Her movements were accompanied by an invisible dance of energy, and her eyes glowed with a strange light.
Reika:
(determined)
"No plan. Just a goal. Don't let him reach the sphere."
---
The Fight Escalates
As the battle continued, Arkan raised his hands, and the ancient runes on the cave walls began to glow. Energy shields rose from the ground, creating a barrier between Zorak and the sphere itself. However, his strength was not to be limited.
Zorak:
(smiling)
"How wonderful, guardian. A little magic to spice things up. But I'm already familiar with your tricks."
Dark energy radiated from his hands, hitting the barrier and gradually weakening it. Kai jumped in front of Arkan's barrier, the scar on his arm beginning to pulse stronger. Red light enveloped him, giving him strength for the next strike.
Kai:
(shouting)
"Zorak, if we can't stop you, at least we can slow you down!"
Shouting this, he struck with his sword, but the energy wave he released shattered the space in front of him, almost sending Reika flying backward. Zorak's dark energy trembled for a moment, and his face tightened.
---
The Discovery of True Power
While the conflict raged on, Miko, half-hidden behind a stone, worked on his device. His fingers flew across the buttons, and the screen lit up as he deciphered the runes in the cave.
Miko:
(nervously, to himself)
"Okay, okay, maybe this will work. If I activate these runes, I might destabilize Zorak's energy. Or I'll blow us all up. One of the two."
The light from his device illuminated the cave walls, and suddenly the runes began to glow more intensely. Arkan looked toward him, his eyes flashing.
Arkan:
(in a voice full of respect)
"You... you use technology to channel Ether? Fascinating. But dangerous."
Miko:
(breathlessly, responding)
"Dangerous is my middle name! Just... give me a few more seconds!"
At that moment, the cave trembled, and energy vortices began to rise from the walls. The runes suddenly projected images—depictions of the Ancients' past. The scene that appeared shocked everyone.
---
Vision of the Past
Images of battles between the Ancients appeared on the walls. They saw tall, elegant figures similar to Arkan, but also humans, ordinary mortals, using Ether to destroy. One figure stood out – a man with a spiral-shaped scar on his right arm.
Kai paused, staring at the scene.
Kai:
(in disbelief)
"That... that can't be. He has the same scar as I do."
Arkan stepped forward, a serious expression on his face.
Arkan:
"This is no coincidence, Kai. Your blood carries a part of Ether. You are a descendant of those who used it. But... that scar is not a hero's mark. It is a seal."
Reika:
(shocked)
"A seal? A seal on what?"
Arkan lowered his gaze, sorrow in his eyes.
Arkan:
"A seal on a power that could destroy everything. Kai, your power is far greater than you realize. If you don't control it... you'll become like Zorak."
---
Zorak Reveals His Plans
Zorak laughed, his voice echoing through the cave.
Zorak:
"That's right. The seal is your destiny, boy. However, there is one difference between us. I've accepted my darkness. And you?"
He extended his hand toward Kai, his eyes glowing with red light.
Zorak:
"Join me. Remove the seal. Feel the true power of Ether. The world won't be your limit – the universe will fall under your rule."
Kai raised his sword, trembling. His inner struggle was evident. Zorak's words weren't just a challenge; they were a temptation.
Kai:
(determined)
"I'm not you. I'll never be you."
---
The Turning Point
Miko had finally finished adjusting his device. He approached Reika, giving her a signal.
Miko:
"It's ready! If I can link these runes, we'll destabilize the entire dark energy system. But... it could cause the cave to collapse."
Reika:
(coldly)
"Better the collapse than Zorak taking the sphere."
As the battle continued, Miko pressed the final button. The runes exploded with light, and Zorak screamed as the dark energy around him began to unravel.
Zorak:
(screaming)
"This is not the end! I will return, and then none of you will survive!"
His figure disintegrated, vanishing into the darkness.
---
Leaving the Cave
The cave began to collapse. Kai, Reika, and Miko ran toward the exit as the walls fell around them. Arkan stood still, watching them.
Arkan:
"Your journey is just beginning. The sphere is yours, but its power carries responsibility. Kai, remember what you saw. The seal is not just a warning – it's a choice."
Kai turned to respond, but Arkan had already vanished.
At the exit, standing beneath the open sky, Kai grabbed the sphere. Its light was soothing, but he felt the weight of responsibility.
Reika:
(quietly)
"What now?"
Kai looked toward the horizon, where the snow continued to fall and the storm slowly faded.
Kai:
(determined)
"Now we head to the next sphere. Before the dark energy..."
