The Legendary Junkmaster

Chapter 99: Proving Grounds (4)

Jason kept his eyes on Dani. Since she had decided to stay and fight, he knew that his condition could not look good. There was a good chance that she would try to distract him until Michelle could hit him with another blast that could end the fight. However, Jason knew that there was a slight delay between Dani disappearing and arriving at her destination.

That would be his moment to take control of the battle. Jason's eyes felt strained as he did not dare to blink. He had to act the moment that Dani did. Michelle took a few steps back, and Jason narrowed his eyes. 'Here it comes.'

Dani vanished, and Jason immediately activated the RDB's. He shot forward, leaving Michelle surprised and Dani even more so as she took a swing at thin air as she reappeared. 'How can he have already figured out my Power?'

Michelle screamed as she panicked. She could only imagine the pain that she was about to go through. Jason raised his right wrist to aim his flamethrower, only to stumble. His momentum disappeared as the boots ran out of fuel! 'Damn! Not now!' Jason cursed as he ground to a halt short of his target.

The momentary interruption gave Dani a chance to teleport over and take a swipe at him. Her Storm bounced off the armour as was to be expected, but she wanted to make Ouroboros focus on her. Of course, Jason would not make that mistake. Michelle was too much of a threat to leave her alone now.

Dani's eyes went wide as fire spewed from Jason's wrist. Michelle was caught by only the very edge of the flames, but that was enough. Her skin quickly turned bright red before melting. Jason grinned when he realised he had succeeded in removing her from the battle as she slumped to the ground.

He spun as quickly as he could to lash out at Dani, but she just teleported into Jason's blind spot. The sound of his armour constantly being bashed by Dani hurt his ears as he grew frustrated. Dani's powers allowed her to keep out of his reach, and the fuel for his flamethrower had run dry as well during the last burst.

Jason cursed as he took note of every problem he was experiencing to implement new modification later. His mind raced to try and find a way to win the battle, but he came up empty. Jason sighed as he accepted what he had come to realise. 'This is my limit for now.'

Jason turtled up and focused on reducing the damage that Dani could do as much as possible as he backed off. He smiled when his back touched a wall because this meant that Dani would have to be more frontal from now on. Naturally, Dani realised that as well. She frowned heavily as she stared at the battered Infinity with its arms raised like a boxer.

'He keeps protecting the hole in his armour.' This was what was bothering Dani. She had tried several times to slip her Storm inside to electrocute Ouroboros's natural body, but he constantly thwarted her. It was like he was aware that her weapon hid dangerous effects. She had even tried to line it up at a distance, but he immediately reacted as if she were going to fire a projectile.

She was struggling to understand if it was just good battle instincts or something else. Ouroboros had reacted perfectly to almost everyone on her team. Especially those from Highrise. 'Was he given our information? Maybe he only had time to study a few of the cadets, and we were just unlucky?'

It sounded plausible to her. After all, everyone in the platoon knew each other's abilities by now, so it would make sense for Sentinel to supply his apprentice with the same information. Dani grit her teeth and made up her mind to try one more time to bring Jason down.

Just as Dani teleported, Jason momentarily lost consciousness. The brief blackout was enough for his guard to drop, and Dani became excited as she drove the Storm through the armour's hole. She began to flick the switch to give this guy the shock of his life! However…

A siren rang all throughout the training ground! Dani screamed in frustration at that noise! It meant that the training exercise had ended. She knew that if she delivered the finishing blow now that her team would be disqualified. Meaning they would be stuck cleaning the habitation of the entire platoon.

With a downcast expression, she withdrew the Storm and returned it to the sheath on her waist. She eyed the tough armour in front of her before staring at the visor.

"You got lucky… This time…" Dani frowned before turning to go and check on Michelle's condition.

The same officer from earlier who took Adam and Gerald away appeared briefly to take charge of Michelle. At some point during their fight, she must have collected Amy and Harry as they were nowhere to be seen. Jason panted inside of the Infinity as he knew he could not be able to stay standing for long once the adrenaline wore off.

Luckily for him, Sentinel appeared as if he had been nearby to the fighting the entire time. The strength looking Guardian looked impressed as he scanned Jason's condition. The current version of the Infinity was pretty much scrap metal by this point.

"You did well. That was almost two full teams you wiped out alone. How does it feel?" Sentinel raised an eyebrow as he waited for the answer.

"Exhausting…" That was the only word that Jason could think of at this moment, and it was how he truly felt.

Sentinel burst out laughing as he seemed pleased with Jason's response. "If you thought this was bad, wait until next time. They'll be ready for you."

Jason glanced at the smirk on Sentinel's face before revealing one of his own. "But next time, I'll be ready for them too…."
