Chapter 192: Chapter 190: One Arrow, Two Targets
After finally extricating himself from the entanglement with those students, Xiang Ri checked the time—it was already 10:10 PM.
The area around the villa of the Jester Prince was now much quieter, with far fewer pedestrians. To Xiang Ri's delight, he noticed that the left side of the villa was completely shrouded in darkness, presenting an excellent opportunity he couldn't afford to miss.
Seizing the moment when no one was watching, he silently maneuvered to the shadowy side of the villa. Utilizing his newfound skill, he effortlessly scaled the perimeter wall.
Landing softly on the grass, Xiang Ri made no sound that might alarm anyone. He silently thanked his luck that the villa's owner apparently did not have a habit of keeping guard dogs.
This villa was unlike the one he had infiltrated back in the city, which was surrounded by a grove of trees that offered cover. Here, aside from the open stretch of grass, there was no other obstruction. If a dog were to charge out, Xiang Ri was certain he would be exposed instantly. The malfunctioning lights on this side of the villa turned out to be his saving grace, without which sneaking in would have been nearly impossible.
The expanse of darkness worked in his favor. Step by step, he approached the villa and reached the window of one of its rooms without being detected.
Perhaps out of misplaced confidence in his guards, or sheer negligence, the villa's owner hadn't stationed any sentries nearby. Xiang Ri couldn't help but smirk at such foolishness. While the villa's outer perimeter was teeming with guards, and burly men stood watch at the main entrance, the most critical area was left completely unguarded. If this wasn't stupidity, then what was?
Peeking cautiously through the window, Xiang Ri observed the room. It was pitch-black inside, save for a faint glow at the door and the murmur of distant voices.
Holding his breath, he listened for a moment beneath the window to confirm that the room was empty. Then, placing his left hand lightly on the window frame, he hoisted himself up and slipped inside like a nimble cat.
To avoid alerting anyone, Xiang Ri ensured his toes touched the ground first. Though this stance threw him slightly off balance and forced him to steady himself against the wall with his right hand, the movement triggered a sharp pain in his injured side. He gritted his teeth and bore it without a sound.
He crept toward the source of the light and hid behind the door, ensuring he stayed far enough to remain unseen. From this vantage point, he could clearly overhear the conversation inside.
"Your Highness, you are far too hospitable. Not only have you treated us to dinner, but you've also allowed us to stay here. I truly don't know how to express my gratitude."
"Oh, my dear friend, please don't say that. It's merely what I ought to do."
The familiar voices sent a jolt through Xiang Ri's mind. When had these two started working together? Or had they been allies all along? Judging by their tone, the former seemed more likely.
Xiang Ri recognized both voices well. One belonged to the young white man whose hands he had broken earlier that day when the man came demanding something from him. The other, unmistakably, was the Jester Prince himself.
A flicker of determination crossed Xiang Ri's eyes. He had been lamenting the trouble of dealing with these two nuisances separately, but now it seemed fate had handed him the perfect opportunity to eliminate both at once.
He remained silent, listening intently as their conversation continued.
"Your Highness, are you truly certain about proceeding with tomorrow's plan?"
"Of course, my friend! Do you still have doubts?"
"I merely have a small concern—aren't you worried that the commotion might escalate beyond control?"
"Oh, my friend, there is no need to worry about such matters. I happen to have a few influential friends in Paris, and as it turns out, the chief of police is one of them. I'm quite confident they would be more than willing to assist me in this little endeavor."
"And what about the reporters? Aren't you concerned about their involvement?"
"Reporters?" The prince let out a cold laugh. "If I seal off the press offices, do you think their sensational tales could ever make it to print?"
"Your Highness, I must commend your boldness and ingenuity."
"Ha-ha, thank you, my dear friend! I must say, I'm beginning to grow rather fond of you. Come, let us toast to our flawless collaboration for tomorrow!"
"To our success!"
"Ha-ha... my dear friend, there is something I've been meaning to ask you, though I wasn't quite sure how to broach the subject."
"Please, Your Highness, speak freely."
"Very well, forgive my directness. I've witnessed your strength firsthand, and I can't help but wonder—who on earth managed to injure your hands so severely?"
"Speaking of that person, I believe, Your Highness, you might find them quite familiar."
"You mean that Asian?" The prince's voice was laced with incredulity.
"Indeed, Your Highness," the man replied, his tone brimming with seething hatred.
"Damn it! No wonder the assassins I sent kept vanishing one after another—it's that wretched Asian meddling in my affairs!" The prince seethed with fury before abruptly shifting his tone. "But it doesn't matter anymore. After tomorrow, I believe we won't have to worry about that damnable Asian any longer."
"I'm afraid to disappoint you, Your Highness," came an unexpected voice from the shadows, "but starting tonight, you won't have to worry about anything at all—because you'll be in hell."
The two men barely had time to turn their heads toward the door before they could cry out.
Two faint "whoosh" sounds sliced through the air, and in an instant, small, finger-sized holes appeared on their foreheads, penetrating cleanly through the back of their skulls. Crimson blood mixed with a pale, milk-like fluid sprayed across the floor.
Xiang Ri emerged in the doorway, a cold smirk tugging at his lips as he withdrew his two fingers from the air. His new skill had proven devastatingly effective, killing swiftly and silently. In truth, the two men had only themselves to blame for their arrogance—leaving not a single guard in the room. Their deaths were no one's fault but their own.
Earlier, after listening and confirming there were only two individuals in the room, Xiang Ri had devised his plan. The execution had gone off flawlessly.
After a brief moment of consideration, he decided to retreat immediately. Though he had prepared to eliminate everyone in the villa if discovered, there was no need for such extreme measures now. Since no one had seen him commit the act, the guards outside could be left alone, allowing him to slip away unnoticed.
Moreover, avoiding a larger body count would prevent drawing undue attention and relentless pursuit from the authorities.
With the two main culprits dead, the remaining lackeys posed no significant threat. Having resolved this, Xiang Ri wasted no further time. He returned to the dimly lit room, leapt out of the window, and retraced his steps into the night.
