Chapter 5: Chapter 5: The First Kiss
The silence between Aya and Ren hung in the air like a fragile thread, each of them caught in the tension of unspoken words. Aya's heart pounded in her chest, louder than the sound of the wind brushing through the city below them. She had always been the one to hold everything together—her friendships, her responsibilities, her emotions. But now, in this moment, everything felt like it was unraveling.
Ren's touch on her arm sent a jolt of electricity through her, but she didn't pull away. There was something in the way he looked at her, as if he understood her in a way no one else could, something in his gaze that made her feel like she could let go of the carefully constructed life she had been living.
"I don't know if I can do this," Aya whispered, her voice shaking, but with a note of resolve she hadn't known she had.
Ren tilted his head slightly, studying her, his dark eyes intense. "Do what?" His voice was soft but laced with a quiet challenge.
"Be with you," she admitted, her heart racing even more. "I don't know what's happening to me. I don't know what I want."
Ren didn't say anything at first. Instead, he took a step closer, his presence overwhelming her, making her feel both vulnerable and alive. The space between them seemed to shrink with every passing second, the world outside the rooftop fading into the background.
"You want this," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "You've wanted it since the moment we met."
Aya's breath caught in her throat. She couldn't deny it. A part of her had been drawn to Ren from the very first time she saw him. His reckless confidence, his mysterious aura, the way he made her feel like she was on the edge of something dangerous and exciting. It scared her, but it also exhilarated her in a way nothing else ever had.
"I don't want to hurt Hikaru," Aya confessed, her voice barely audible as she looked away, feeling the weight of her emotions pressing down on her.
Ren reached up and gently turned her face back toward him, his fingers brushing against her cheek. "You're not hurting anyone," he said softly. "You're just living for yourself for once. Do you really think Hikaru would want you to hold back your feelings for him?"
Aya's mind raced as she thought of Hikaru—the kind, dependable friend who had always been there for her. He deserved her honesty, but she wasn't sure how she could tell him the truth without breaking his heart. Hikaru was her anchor, the one person who had never let her down, and yet, the attraction to Ren felt like a powerful current she couldn't resist.
Before she could speak, Ren's fingers slid into her hair, his touch surprisingly gentle. He leaned in, his breath warm against her skin. Aya's heart pounded in her chest, her thoughts scattering in every direction. Everything about this moment felt overwhelming—the weight of her choices, the intensity of Ren's gaze, the uncertainty about what it all meant.
And then, Ren kissed her.
It wasn't like any kiss she had ever imagined. There was no hesitation, no doubt, just the fierce urgency of two people who had finally crossed the line between what was safe and what was dangerous. Ren's lips were soft but demanding, his hands gently cradling her face as if he couldn't get close enough.
Aya's pulse raced, her mind a blur as she melted into the kiss, allowing herself to lose control for the first time in a long while. The world around them ceased to exist. There was only the feeling of Ren's lips on hers, the sensation of being wanted, desired, in a way that was raw and undeniable.
When they finally pulled away, both of them breathless, Aya's heart was still hammering in her chest. She looked up at Ren, her emotions a tangled mess of confusion, guilt, and something else—something she couldn't yet name.
"Ren..." Aya whispered, her voice trembling.
He gave her a slow, knowing smile, his thumb brushing over her bottom lip as if memorizing the sensation of their kiss. "You don't have to say anything. You already know what you want."
Aya opened her mouth to protest, but the words never came. She didn't know how to explain what she was feeling. Part of her wanted to push him away, to run back to the safety of her old life with Hikaru. But another part of her was drawn to him—drawn to the wild, untamed energy he embodied. And in that moment, she wasn't sure if she wanted to pull away at all.
She closed her eyes, taking a deep breath. "I'm not sure what I'm doing," she admitted quietly.
Ren's expression softened, his gaze tender for a brief moment. "Neither am I. But I think that's what makes it worth it."

Later That Evening
Aya lay in bed that night, her thoughts swirling. The kiss had been everything she hadn't expected and everything she needed. It made her question everything—her feelings for Ren, her loyalty to Hikaru, the life she had built for herself. The guilt gnawed at her, but she couldn't ignore the powerful connection she felt with Ren. She had never felt this way before, and part of her was terrified of it.
Her phone buzzed, and Aya glanced at the screen. It was a message from Hikaru.
"Hey, Aya, are you okay? You've seemed a little distant lately. Let's talk tomorrow."
Aya stared at the message, her chest tightening. She hadn't been able to look him in the eyes since she started meeting Ren. How could she tell him the truth? How could she explain what she was feeling?
She didn't know.
But one thing was certain—she couldn't keep hiding forever. The truth was coming, whether she was ready for it or not.
