The mortal life of an omniscient being

Chapter 3: Tournament (1)

The tournament was a fight between the students and monsters. The creatures were specifically chosen to exploit the students' strengths as well as their overall power to determine their worthiness for selection by a guild.

For this year's graduates of twenty-five, the same number of monsters were chosen, the weakest of the monsters being a Goblin Lord.

This announcement, given by the principal, sparked the crowd's interest in the caliber of fresh adventurers that would be born out of the school that year.

There were other schools on the continent that trained talents in different fields, as the world required various specializations.

But for slaying monsters and gathering mana stones, which was the most dangerous field of all, the people who tackled these great feats were known as adventurers.

As such, the Linkinward Academy was the best school for training such talents.

"We introduce our first contestant, Liones Mars."

A boy walked onto the battleground, fully armed and holding a hammer, which was his weapon of choice. Students were to carry swords as part of the uniform, but during actual battles, they were allowed to change into their preferred armor and choose a suitable weapon.

As the crowd cheered for the candidate, the announcer mentioned his strengths and weaknesses, followed by his opponent, which was a Giant Forest Boar.

The match commenced immediately, as the bustling crowd turned silent, watching how the student fared against the boulder-sized monster.

In less than ten minutes, the match was wrapped up, with the victor being Liones.

The crowd went into a frenzy, as the VIP spectators clapped, muttering amongst themselves and discussing his talent.

As the coliseum was filled with cheers, the boy moved closer to the boar's corpse, reciting a prayer and offering the boar's body as a sacrifice to the gods. The corpse instantly vanished, turning into dust, leaving behind only its mana stone.

The student bowed before the dignitaries before leaving, and thus the rest of the matches continued. Each student got the chance to showcase their talent to the spectators present and the world, as the tournament was being transmitted everywhere through special artifacts made from magic stones.

"To bring this year's matches to an end, we have this year's batch's best fighters."

"First introducing, Mia Flameheart, a talent that specializes in water, wind, and fire magic. She's also skilled in support magic, and her weapon of choice is a long sword!"

"She'll be facing off against a rank B Ogre."

The crowd remained silent as she walked out, still in her uniform, as she wanted to prove her absolute strength.

"This will be fun to watch," a woman dressed in a sexy purple outfit said. She had pink hair and eyes, adorned with the luxurious jewels she wore, as she sat amongst the dignitaries, earning that spot by being the guild master of the "Yumai" guild, the number one guild on the continent.

The other guild masters turned silent at that moment, knowing they had already lost her, after she finally broke her silence across all the matches.

"Ready! Begin!"

The gates opened as the Ogre walked out, standing the height of a full-grown tree and holding a giant club in its hand.

"Goddess of Protection, grant me your divine shield."

"Goddess of Gift, grant me the speed to evade my enemy," she chanted as her body began to emanate a white aura.

The Ogre dashed toward her, raising its club and throwing a crushing attack in an instant. The force of the attack dusted the battleground, blurring the view of all the spectators.

Before the dust cleared, they saw her leap into the sky, falling to the ground afterward as she aimed for a head-on attack.

"God of War, grant me the power to destroy my enemies!"

She chanted as her sword became coated in a red aura. She fell to the ground, slashing the creature into two as she landed on her feet.

"She actually did it. Wow, I'm impressed, Principal."

The top guild master said in her usual seductive tone as the dust cleared, revealing Mia standing in front of the corpse and giving thanks as it disintegrated, leaving behind the basketball-sized magic stone.

The crowd, which was quiet at first since they thought she couldn't do it, cheered wildly as she had just pulled off an impossible feat.

"That's very impressive. She can call upon the power of the gods directly, and at such a young age. She's quite a rare breed, I'd say, Principal."

"Yes, Guild Master Yumai. She has the greatest capacity for mana in this year's batch, and as such, the gods themselves have taken a liking to her."

"Interesting. Then she's mine."

She said, her voice sounding more seductive as she licked her lips while Mia left the stage.

"Now, our best student for this year. Let me have the honor of introducing our very own principal's son, Crimson White."

"You never told me you had a son, my dearest principal, and he's the best student as well. Guess he took after his father."

Yumai said as the students amidst the crowd cheered at the top of their voices.

"Well, he's my adopted son, and his name is John. Crimson White is just the nickname the students gave him."

"Okay, if that's what you say, Principal. But if I heard you right, you said Mia had the greatest mana among the students, right?"

"Yes, I'm surprised you got her name instantly."

"Hm, let's just say I have a good memory when it comes to important things. My point is, if she has the greatest mana, then how is your son stronger than her?"

"For that, I don't know. My son seems to defeat her in every single battle. That's how they even started getting to know each other. If I may say so myself, the truth is my son has the least amount of mana amongst his peers."

"Interesting. It seems the supposed weakest is actually the strongest. What an odd turn of events."

They ended their conversation as Crimson walked out.

"His opponent will be...!"
