The mortal life of an omniscient being

Chapter 5: Guild

The question stirred up a moment of tension between Mia and the principal, while Crimson decided to play along with whatever they decided.

"It'll be weird if I actually tell her we're engaged,"

Mia thought as she parted her lips to reply, while Crimson seemed unconcerned about the matter. But before she could speak her hazy words, the principal intervened.

"Yes, Yumai, I forgot to mention that they're actually engaged,"

The principal said with an awkward grin on his face as he knew how absurd it sounded.

"Oh, it seems so. At such a young age, too, that is. Well, I have great news then. Both of you will be forming a two-man party in my guild. Judging by your capabilities, you'll be put at rank A for now."

"We're honored, my lady, and we accept your kind gesture,"

They said as they bowed their heads in gratitude.

"That isn't because I know your dad or anything; it's because of your pure talent. And I hope that'll keep on improving. Don't let me down. I have high hopes for you two."

"We'll do our absolute best, madam,"

They replied, finally excusing themselves to enjoy the party.

As the magic stones of the chandelier dimmed, Crimson and Mia's days in the school ended, and, as such, two weeks passed.

---

"Today is the day we start our own adventure, Crim,"

Mia said as she geared up and prepared, standing in what seemed to be a small bedroom.

Since they were engaged, they decided to live together in a small house the principal decided to buy for them as a reward for making it into the number one guild.

"Yeah, you're right. Let's do our best,"

Crimson replied, flashing a soft smile at her as he also geared up, only wearing his school uniform, but this time without the Trees of Life badge on it.

"Well, let's go!"

"Right!"

Since the academy days ended, Crimson started showing some level of emotion, which was fueled by his ever-growing affection towards Mia.

As such, they stepped out of the simple block house that was tucked away in the countryside and made their way towards the thriving city.

Since magic stone advancement hadn't reached the level to be integrated with engineering complex materials, the world was simple yet fascinating. Monuments of the gods could be seen at every corner, as people praying to them could be seen at each one.

The streets were paved with bricks, bearing different colors that differentiated the roads from the pavements.

Magic stones were the pinnacle of technology, as they were used for everything, starting from traffic lights to street signs and other mechanics. But since research was still lacking in the world, cars didn't exist, and people traveled by carriage, drawn by horses or tamed monsters.

After a while of walking, they finally made it to the Yumai guild building, which was the most majestic building in the whole city after the castle that could be seen in the distance.

It had a modernized design, being one of the few buildings that had glass doors. But due to the light difference, they couldn't see through to the interior of the building.

Without waiting, they entered. They were met with a bustling crowd that seemed to be adventurers minding their own business. Most of them stood around looking for new quests to undertake, while some sought additional personnel to join their parties in order to visit a dungeon.

Both of them were astonished by how an actual guild was, but Crimson kept his expressionless face on, seeming unamazed.

Without wasting time, they walked to the receptionist and sought an audience with the guild master.

After handing them the special invitation card Miss Yumai gave to them on their graduation night, they were given access without any questioning.

They introduced themselves to her once more after reaching her office, which was located on the second floor of the building.

Seeming excited that they had finally arrived, she decided to personally walk them through the rules and create their guild cards.

With that, she followed them downstairs to create their cards, after spending hours teaching them the ways of the Yumai guild.

All members of the guild stood up and allocated the correct respect to her upon seeing her descend, as it was an honor and great privilege for all and some.

"That's the guild master?"

"She's so beautiful."

"Is that really our guild master?"

Mutterings emanated from the crowd as their heads remained bowed.

The guild card registration and ranking were solely determined by a person's mana level. Knowing the receptionist would cause trouble when they saw Crimson's low mana, she decided to personally make it for them.

On the reception table lay a colorless orb, another magic stone that was modified to serve the purpose of reading people's mana levels.

"Both of you are to place your hand on the orb. Don't do anything; it'll work on its own."

"Okay, Miss Yumai,"

Mia replied as Crimson simply nodded with his expressionless face.

Calling the guild master by her name made everyone in the room curious as to who the two were, as all eyes were on them.

Even though the room was silent since they were in the presence of their guild master, the ill intents of several members could be clearly felt directed towards Crimson and Mia. At that point, mostly due to envy, they became the targets of the scumbag members of the guild.

Seeming unaware of their clear thoughts, they decided to proceed as they were told.

Mia went first, placing her hand on the orb, which shone white after a few seconds.

The result of that color surprised everyone, including Yumai, as she knew that Mia had greater things in store for her future. White was the greatest level of mana one could have, and not even she had reached that state.

She removed her hand, not feeling even a tad off or surprised, as she didn't know what the color white actually meant.
