The mother in law gifts me a mountain for a new beginning

Chapter 11 - The Secret Of Wine Is Sugar! We Wait For Theresa's Reply!

The next morning, Lynn woke up before the system chimed. To him, that was directly on time. He looked next to him and saw a big pair of eyes staring at him. Lynn was startled.

”Princess Lucy, who sleeps better than a pig, woke up early?”

”Does it look like I am awake?” she replies unshaken. “I did not sleep at all last night.”

”Because I told you about the secret and did not tell you about it earlier?” Lynn laughed.

Lucy turned over and sat up with a snort. She did not utter a single word to him. Lynn then heard the system’s noise. Today’s points are here. 180 points! A little more was gained compared to yesterday. It seemed that the territory’s overall score was a little higher. Just in case, Lynn confirmed the points. Next, he looked at Lucy’s back as she kept pouting.

”Come on, I will show you the secret,” he said. Lucy immediately climbed over.

”Now?”

”Well, first get dressed,” admonished Lynn.

”Okay!”

Dressed and clean, Lynn went to the warehouse and took out a large bag of different items wrapped in yellow oil paper. The two of them then went into the backyard and opened a cylinder barrel. Lynn looked curiously and explained his surprise.

”There are bubbles. That is amazing.”

Lynn smelled the wine. Lucy watched him as he did it, and followed his footsteps.

”Does it smell like wine?” Lynn asked.

”No. But as long as it tastes like wine it is okay.”

”The thing that becomes the wine is actually the sugar in the grapes. However, the mountain grapes’ glucose level is low, so it is hard to turn them into wine and easy for them to rot.”

”What if that happens?” Lucy asked worriedly.

”It is a secret,” Lynn said as he took out the oil paper bag. He then opened it to show its contents to Lucy.

”Sugar?” She questions.

”Yeah, it is sugar. Once added, the wine becomes richer, sweeter, and easier to keep. This is the key to the secret. Of course, temperature and humidity are also important. Now, if the weather is quite warm the wine will turn red. If it is cold and you do not have a cellar, you can only make white wine.”

Lucy listened curiously and glanced around for eavesdroppers.

”It is a secret. No one can know of it,” she said.

Lynn nodded in response, and picked up a pole and began to add sugar.

”Why do you not just add it? Is the quantity important?” Lucy asked.

“Well, too much sugar will make the original fructose fermentation incomplete. This will result in a poor taste and might even rot. Too little sugar will make a low concentration of wine, which cannot be sold for money.”

”This is so esoteric, Lynn. You know a lot.”

Lynn worked out the amount of sugar in advance, and as the process was talked about and written down, the knowledge would spread. The snow white sugar was put into the crimson juice. The process has to be divided into three parts, adding only a small amount of sugar in the initial part. This would allow the sugar to better ferment into alcohol. After adding the sugar, Lynn clapped his hands in satisfaction.

”Okay. Wait for tomorrow, and there will be a small amount of wine,” he said.

Lucy nodded, but stared into the barrel. Lynn handed over a silver spoon and told her to try it. Lucy’s eyes lit up and she scooped up a slight spoonful to taste it.

”This is good! It is sweet, and can be sold just like this.” Lynn shook his head at her words.

”Juice is not valuable. A pound is only worth a few copper coins. Wine is much more expensive. Even the servants who sold the unsweetened wine from the alcohol heavy wine sold it for fifty copper coins for five hundred grams,” Lynn pointed out.

“Let us make wine. A kilo probably could sell for a silver coin.”

”Can you sell for such a high price? How much is this cylinder?”

”It is three hundred kilos of grapes, but when the wine is finally made with all of the peels and scum removed it is going to turn into two hundred and thirty pounds of wine.”

”This cylinder of wine can be sold for two gold coins?! Oh my God!” Lucy exclaimed. “I cannot believe we can make so much money so quickly!”

”It is cheap. When we can grow high quality grapes ourselves, the price of the wine will become much more expensive.”

Wine was such a profitable industry. Five hundred grams of grapes sold for less than two copper coins, but turned into wine it could be sold for a hundred copper coins. Lynn was in a hurry, as the cylinder was yet to be perfected. When the first batch of wine was sold, he would make custom barrels and prepare cellars. When those are established, the output would be higher and every month there would be a stable gold income. Lucy looked at Lynn with admiration.

”I want to see how big your brain has grown, and why I cannot learn as much as you.”

”Even though you do not know much and do not work, you can eat and sleep,” Lynn chuckles.

”You laughed at me!”

”No, do not be so vain.”

”Hmm.”

The two of them joked around and went back to the castle to eat breakfast. All three of Lynn’s meals now had monster meat. Originally, Lynn also wanted Lucy to eat something even if she did not become a magician. He wanted to make her body stronger. Yet, she would not eat it, and she was firm about it. She would not eat it unless she hunted the Archfiend herself.

After breakfast, Lynn went to evolve five more tigers, but because he lacked the points he only evolved the fifth tiger once. The number of soldiers in the Half Beast Corps had reached sixteen! Lynn searched through the territory once more.

Unfortunately, he had good luck and found out that the search ability had discovered yet another treasure. He had found phosphorus ore. This raw material could be used to make fertilizer, and had a wide range of other uses. Lynn fervently  wanted it. Yet, it was in the deepest part of the Maple Mountain and could not be obtained with his current abilities.

Lynn wrote down the position because he was not in a hurry. This ore was not the same as magic medicine as it would not be eaten by demons, nor run away. The only thing to do was to mine it.

Three days later, the construction of the plantation was complete. Lynn also expanded the Half Wolf Corps to thirty! The wheat had grown a large area of buds, and the growth of fire mushrooms was also good. Lynn’s planting method had been proven to be feasible. The new green houses were also built, with five in total. They were placed next to the castle, and were built with wood. They proved to be very beautiful.

The wine gradually became stronger in aroma, and Lynn noted that everything was moving in an orderly manner. At this point, he received a letter from Theresa. The letter recorded the shock of the nobles when they learned that Lynn had sent two magic mushrooms. The letter also mentioned a serious matter. Every year, wild tides hit the village in the Maple Mountains. Lynn instantly remembered the villagers’ desire to speak to him to stop the expansions. Lynn was also surprised to know that Theresa wanted to expand past the stone walls, even with the incoming tides.
