chapter 25
25 – Entrance Ceremony (1)
Lily told me the story of the past.
As soon as I placed my hand on the crystal ball, darkness came, and many people fell to the ground because of the ominous energy.
Professor Dian immediately cut off the magic power supplied to the crystal ball, and I collapsed on the spot and could not open my eyes for two days.
The faculty assumes that the being I summoned is an evil spirit, and that they will summon me sooner or later, etc.
“···It was like that.”
After hearing details that I had not been aware of, I nodded and became lost in thought.
I still vividly remember the things I experienced in an empty world without anything.
The thousand emotions that were swirling around me,
The ominous energy and unpleasant voice that felt desperately on my skin,
And the huge eyes that were only looking at me.
‘He is an evil spirit…’
This is a fact I can be sure of because I have seen it through the monitor.
The identity of that overwhelming being was clearly the evil god Bulginus.
‘Why on earth?’
I have doubts. Doesn’t the fantasy magic used in entrance summon the strongest or most feared being you’ve ever encountered?
However, since I became possessed, I have never encountered the Seven Deadly Sins, let alone an evil spirit.
So the evil spirit should not have appeared in front of me.
But the evil spirit appeared in front of me and started talking nonsense.
Who am I leading to destruction? And above all.
-「You found it. 」
Why was the evil spirit looking for me? Because it is a vessel of sin? Or is it because I am possessed?
It’s frustrating. Because nothing is clear.
‘Ah, maybe…’
Then, a plausible idea suddenly occurred to me.
Perhaps the reason I was able to summon an evil spirit was because I had seen it through the monitor while playing a game.
Then it makes sense. Since the evil god was the final boss of this game, I may have unconsciously perceived the evil god as the strongest being.
As I was thinking that, I heard a dry voice.
“Mr. Caramel.”
I raise my head. A sickly girl, forgotten in her preoccupation, holds her tobacco in her mouth.
“Saint. “My name is Carmel.”
“Oh, I’m sorry. Mr. Caramel.”
I tried to correct the name, but again, it was no use.
If there is any improvement, it is that unlike before, Lily answered with a bright smile.
“···Thank you. “Wasn’t it difficult?”
“I just did the obvious thing. “It wasn’t difficult.”
When I said thank you, the saintess smiled with a faint expression.
Looking at Lily like that, a part of her felt uncomfortable.
‘Lies.’
I can see her already delicate body twitching slightly.
You can also see his eyebrows trembling.
She is also seen occasionally twitching her body and frowning.
And I know why Lily is sick.
‘Because I used divine power.’
Saints cause miracles with their divine power.
Putting together broken bones. It heals torn flesh and even attaches severed limbs.
The cost of that miracle is the saint’s own suffering. The more she uses her divine power, the more pain the saintess must endure.
I don’t know if that was all. Whenever a saint uses her divine power to perform a miracle on a person, she must be exposed to the evil that resides in that person.
“Caramel, you’re not saying anything again.”
“What do you mean?”
“I, a saint, are here chain-smoking, but she doesn’t say anything. “She did that four years ago too.”
“Well, does she have a law that says saints cannot smoke? “She’s not doing anything bad, so why should I say anything?”
To be honest, she hates smokers and likes to give them advice.
I grumbled and avoided answering.
Because, I knew that the tobacco that Lily was smoking contained a small amount of narcotic substances and that it helped reduce the pain.
“Hmm. “As expected, Mr. Caramel, you are a unique person.”
Then Lily, who looked at me for a moment with her strange expression, put her ninth candle in her mouth and continued.
“Ah, Professor Dian asked me to tell you this.”
“Professor Dian?”
“It’s good that she received the application for admission, but she moved all her luggage from the inn to the Felix dormitory, so you can go there.”
“I understand. And… I was in a lot of debt.”
Lily spoke to me, exhaling her smoke, and I bowed my head in gratitude.
“Oh, and this is something I want to say personally.”
A voice was heard as the car was about to go out.
Turning her head, Lily smiled faintly and opened her lips.
“Caramel. Congratulations to the Chief.”
When I saw that smile, I smiled shyly and made a promise to myself.
It’s impossible right now, but I will relieve that sickly child’s pain as soon as possible.
****
Hilda Van Kerendius, headmistress of Arden Academy, asked her professors gathered in her office.
“Did it go well? “
“Yes. “We explained to the test takers that this accident was caused by a cursed artifact, and most of them seemed to agree.”
“It wasn’t a very good guide. There is no choice. Professors have no choice but to kiss each other. Dian, what is the child’s condition now?”
The principal asked Dian while stroking his gray beard.
“Fortunately, it seemed like I had regained my condition. “Currently, he is resting at Felix Pavilion.”
“Okay. It doesn’t seem like he’s an ordinary child, so keep a close eye on him for the time being. Then···.”
Diane nodded her head, and Hilda stared at her stack of papers and tried to continue her sentence.
“Principal, this is a presumptuous thing to say.”
Then, a professor raised his hand and called the principal.
“Speak. Professor Zikel.”
When the principal gave her the right to speak, she began asserting her own opinion.
“I admit that the being summoned by her friend, Camel, is an untouchable being.”
“You admit it?”
“Her friend named Camel caused harm to other test takers and collapsed without being able to show any response. “I think it was a bad choice for her to give up her senior position to such a child and the Felix Pavilion, which was reserved for special people.”
“So?”
“For the sake of equity, I believe she should reallocate dormitories and re-score.”
Afterwards, Hilda let out her shallow sigh and answered in a low voice.
“Look. Zikel. As you said, that being was untouchable. And that’s it. Nothing is clear yet, but this old man is certain. “That being was clearly an evil spirit.”
“···.”
“This fact alone proves the child. That he had a value that was incomparable to that of other children.”
“But…”
“But what. I’m not finished talking yet, so keep listening. You said that, right? She said Carmel failed to show any response.”
Jikel nodded her head, and Hilda infused her mana into her crystal orb that was placed on her table.
Then, a hologram began to bloom above the crystal ball.
“It was painstakingly restored, so take a good look at it. “That boy really didn’t do anything.”
In the hologram, Camel, enveloped in darkness, was slowly moving her hands.
“I assure you, there are only a handful of people here who can move their hands like that in front of that being. And···.”
While the sound of her dry swallowing was heard here and there, Camel in her hologram pulled out her own sword.
“···!”
“···!”
A brilliant light begins to burst out from Camel’s sword.
The inside of the office turned completely white for a moment, and the faces of those watching were filled with astonishment.
Hilda thought quietly as she looked at that scene.
“There is no one here who can draw a sword in front of that being.”
There was silence in the office.
*****
The first morning in the dormitory I moved into after leaving the temple. No, dawn.
Warm sunlight is not coming in due to the high-performance blackout curtains.
For some reason, I can’t even hear the birds chirping.
So, it is true that I should never wake up at this early hour.
Rattle rattle.
I eventually had to get up from my seat because of the loud noise.
“···f*ck you.”
I turned to the source of the sound to see what it was, and had to curse reflexively.
Rattle rattle.
It was worth it. The identity of the sound that woke me up from my sweet sleep was the sound of a baby bluebird rolling its treadmill.
Did he feel that I was coming?
The thing, I don’t know if it was a bird or a rodent, looked at me and chirped brightly, then started rolling its treadmill at an even faster pace.
“No, why is the bird spinning on its treadmill…?”
Feeling dizzy, I sat down and lamented.
That hamster wheel was displayed in my dormitory by Dian as a gift.
In addition to that treadmill, Dian left a luxurious birdcage and unidentifiable toys in my room. When I saw this, I said this.
-“They are all useless.”
I was grateful for Dian’s sincerity, but my words were sincere and true.
-Rattling
I thought so, but I guess I was wrong.
“No way…”
A feeling of fear suddenly arises.
The gaze turns.
“···.”
What you can see are various types of toys.
Looking at it now, I can see the dog gum that wasn’t visible yesterday. You can see a feather stick that cats might like, and you can also see a huge cat tower installed in the corner.
After gaping for a moment, I immediately called the owner of these toys.
Tweets that reply while spinning happily as if they are not tired.
I asked that tweeter.
“Tell me honestly. “It’s not a bird, is it?”
Twitter tilted his head as if wondering what kind of bird chirping that was.
****
Thanks to this tweet, I couldn’t get a good night’s sleep and was heading somewhere feeling miserable.
“Isn’t it him? “The kid who ate it as his senior day this time.”
“Oh, that’s right. “The guy who exploded an artifact at the test site.”
“Wow, a kid like that is reciting the oath at the entrance ceremony today?”
“The world is coming to an end. “I think I came here for no reason.”
What kind of bullsh*t is this? I was already in a bad mood, so my head turned and my expression became grim.
“Inhale…”
“Hey, you eyes. “What can you do to us?”
“Keuung…”
Then they avoided my eyes and looked the other way.
If you’re going to do that, then why did you talk behind my back in a voice that everyone can hear? This is something we cannot understand.
I was walking towards the entrance ceremony, feeling those subtle gazes on me.
“Ka, kameeell!”
A bright voice came from out of nowhere.
-Warm.
I felt a lump on my back and at the same time something was carrying me.
There was no need to turn my head.
Red hair hanging down the side of the face.
A subtle rose scent that you cannot forget.
Even the heaviness you feel on your back.
“Uh, Rose.”
The person who carried me on my back was a woman I knew very well.
