The next world.

Chapter 17: gala

As the three of them talked, the awkwardness gradually gave way to laughter. Kael, being Kael, somehow managed to diffuse the tension without even realizing it.

At some point, Ayame suggested they check out the campus greenhouse, which was rumored to be haunted. Kael was reluctant at first, but Koko's teasing finally pushed him into agreeing.

The greenhouse was quiet, the air heavy with the scent of flowers and earth.

"See? Nothin' spooky here," Ayame said, her voice echoing slightly in the stillness.

"No ghosts," Kael agreed. "Just an alarming number of potted plants."

"Don't let your guard down," Koko said, smirking. "You never know what's lurking in the shadows."

As if on cue, something rustled in the corner. Ayame screamed, latching onto Kael's arm, while Koko immediately grabbed the nearest object—a watering can—and held it like a weapon.

"Relax!" Kael said, trying to pry Ayame off of him. "It's just a cat."

Sure enough, a small black cat emerged from the shadows, its yellow eyes glowing faintly in the dim light.

Ayame let out a nervous laugh, releasing Kael. "Guess I overreacted."

"No kidding," Koko said, setting the watering can down.

But as they prepared to leave, the cat suddenly bolted, knocking over a row of pots and sending soil flying everywhere.

Kael groaned. "Why does chaos follow me everywhere?"

"Because you're the main character of this ridiculous story," Koko said, smirking.

Ayame giggled, looping her arm through Kael's. "C'mon, sugar. Let's get outta here before somethin' else goes wrong."

Koko rolled her eyes but followed, a small smile playing on her lips.

The walk back from the greenhouse was anything but quiet. Ayame and Koko had settled into their usual rhythm of bickering, though this time there was an unusual softness beneath their words. Kael walked between them, his golden presence enough to draw the attention of anyone passing by.

As they reached the dormitory gates, Ayame hesitated, her hand still loosely holding Kael's arm.

"Hey, sugar," she said, her voice quieter than usual.

Kael turned to her, raising an eyebrow. "What's up? You've been unusually calm since the greenhouse."

Koko smirked. "She's not used to being scared, that's all. You should've seen her jump."

"Cut it out," Ayame snapped, though there was no real heat in her words.

Kael chuckled, his perfect features softening into a rare, genuine smile. "You two are ridiculous. But I'll admit, it's… nice. Having you both around."

The words hung in the air, heavier than any of them expected.

Koko, never one to back down, crossed her arms and fixed Kael with a steady gaze. "You mean that?"

Kael blinked, caught off guard. "Of course. Why wouldn't I?"

Ayame tightened her grip on his arm, her usual confident demeanor wavering. "Because, sugar, we… we need to tell you somethin'. And it might change the way you see us."

Kael frowned, his dark eyes flicking between the two girls. "Okay, now you're worrying me. What is it?"

Ayame glanced at Koko, who gave her a slight nod. Taking a deep breath, Ayame stepped closer to Kael, her cheeks flushed.

"Last night, me and Koko… we got kinda close," she admitted, her accent thickening with her nervousness.

Kael tilted his head, confusion clear on his face. "Close? Like how?"

Koko rolled her eyes. "Do I really need to spell it out for you? We slept together, okay? Intimately."

Kael blinked, the words taking a moment to register. When they did, his reaction wasn't shock or anger—just mild surprise.

"Oh," he said simply.

Ayame gawked at him. "Oh? That's all you gotta say?"

Kael shrugged, his demeanor unbothered. "You're both adults. I don't see why it's a big deal."

Koko leaned against the gate, her smirk returning. "See? I told you he wouldn't care. He's too perfect to get caught up in petty drama like this."

Ayame groaned, burying her face in her hands. "I thought you'd at least have some kind of reaction, Kael! I mean, we're all friends here, and now things are all… complicated."

Kael placed a hand on her shoulder, his touch as reassuring as his voice. "Ayame, you and Koko mean a lot to me. If anything, I'm glad you're being honest about it. But this doesn't change how I feel about either of you."

Koko raised an eyebrow. "And how do you feel about us?"

Kael hesitated, the rare flicker of uncertainty crossing his perfect face. "You're important to me. Both of you. I don't know what that means yet, but I'm not going anywhere."

Kael's words seemed to break the tension, and before he could react, Ayame threw her arms around him, burying her face in his chest.

"You're too good for this world, sugar," she murmured, her voice muffled.

Koko, not one to be outdone, stepped closer and wrapped her arms around Kael from the other side. "He really is. It's almost annoying how perfect you are."

Kael stood frozen for a moment, caught between the two girls. "Uh, is this going to become a regular thing?"

Ayame pulled back slightly, her face inches from his. "Only if you're okay with it."

Koko smirked, her cheek resting against his shoulder. "What do you think, Pretty Boy? Can you handle the both of us?"

Kael sighed, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "You two are going to be the death of me."

A limousine pulled up the driver said to get ready for a gala

Kael face look tired, but reluctantly agreed and went to his room

Fast-forward

Kael adjusted his bow tie in the mirror of the limousine, the soft hum of the vehicle adding to the tension in the air. Sitting across from him was Miu Cradula, her piercing blue eyes glinting under the dim interior lights. Her golden hair cascaded over her bare shoulders, and her fitted silver gown shimmered as she leaned back with an air of absolute confidence.

"Well, Kael," she said, her voice like honey dipped in velvet. "I have to say, you clean up nicely. Almost too nicely."

Kael, ever the clueless one, blinked at her. "Thanks, I think? You look great too, Miu."

Before Miu could reply, the limo stopped abruptly. The door swung open, and two very determined women stepped inside. Ayame was in a fiery red dress that hugged her curves in all the right ways, her golden locks swept up in an elegant bun. Koko, on the other hand, wore a sleek black gown with a thigh-high slit that screamed dangerous, her dark pink hair styled into loose waves.

Kael smiled brightly. "Oh good, you made it! I thought it'd be more fun if you both joined me. These events can get so… boring."

Ayame and Koko exchanged a glance, both of them clearly trying to hide their irritation at Miu's presence.

"Well, aren't you thoughtful," Koko said, sliding into the seat next to Kael and immediately looping her arm through his.

Ayame plopped down on Kael's other side, resting her hand possessively on his thigh. "We wouldn't miss it, sugar. Who knows what kind of trouble you'd get into without us?"

Miu's calm smile never faltered, but her eyes sparkled with mischief. "I see you've brought some… interesting company, Kael. Though I have to admit, I'm a little surprised you didn't tell them about our first night together."

The atmosphere in the limo shifted instantly.

Koko stiffened, her grip on Kael tightening. "First night? What's she talking about, Pretty Boy?"

Ayame's Southern drawl was sharper than usual. "Yeah, sugar. Care to elaborate?"

Kael's face turned an alarming shade of red. "Uh, well—"

Miu leaned forward, her expression as serene as ever. "Oh, it was unforgettable. The night we meet? Things got a little… heated." She paused, a sly smile curling her lips. "I think the word 'coitus' was involved."

Koko and Ayame's eyes widened in unison.

"You've slept with her?" Koko hissed, her voice low and dangerous.

"And you didn't think to mention it?" Ayame added, her tone dripping with disbelief.

Kael raised his hands defensively. "It's not like I was keeping it a secret! It just… didn't come up."

Miu chuckled, reaching over to brush a nonexistent speck of dust off Kael's lapel. "Well, darling, I don't blame him. He's been so busy becoming the youngest billionaire in history. Did you know that? Two months, and he's already made headlines for more scandals than most people have in a lifetime."

Ayame and Koko's gazes snapped to Kael, who looked like he wanted to disappear into the seat.

"Billionaire?" Ayame repeated, her voice a mix of shock and pride.

"And scandals?" Koko added, arching an eyebrow. "What kind of scandals, exactly?"

Miu leaned back, her smile growing. "Oh, you know. Rumors about him dating half the fashion world, senators inviting him to private dinners, designers begging him to model for them. He's a hot commodity, after all."

Kael buried his face in his hands. Turbo, he thought desperately. How did my life turn into this circus?

Because you're irresistible, remember? Turbo's voice replied smugly in his head. You literally glow.

By the time they arrived at the gala, the tension in the limo had reached critical levels. Kael stepped out first, his stunning appearance immediately drawing the attention of photographers and onlookers.

"Kael! Over here!"

"Who are you wearing tonight?"

"Is it true you're dating a senator's daughter?"

Kael sighed, plastering on a polite smile as he helped the girls out of the limo.

Miu, ever the composed one, slid her arm through his and gave the cameras a practiced smile. "Stick close to me, darling. I'll handle the press."

Koko and Ayame, however, had other ideas.

"Excuse me," Ayame said, pushing herself between Miu and Kael. "I think sugar needs a little space."

Koko followed suit, linking her arm with Kael's other one. "Yeah, wouldn't want anyone getting the wrong idea."

Miu's calm facade cracked just slightly. "Oh, I'm sure they already have plenty of ideas."

The three of them practically dragged Kael into the venue, where the opulence of the gala matched the absurdity of the situation. Crystal chandeliers, live orchestras, and enough gold decor to make even the wealthiest blush.

As the night went on, Kael found himself the center of attention—not just from his dates but from everyone in the room.

Miu wasted no time flaunting her connection to him, introducing him to CEOs and socialites as her "partner in life."

Ayame and Koko, not to be outdone, made sure to keep Kael physically close, each of them finding excuses to touch him, laugh at his jokes, and subtly one-up Miu at every turn.

It all came to a head during the first slow dance of the evening.

Miu leaned in and kissed Kael lightly on the lips, her expression daring the other two to react.

"Oh, that's cute," Koko said before pulling Kael into a kiss of her own.

Ayame, not missing a beat, grabbed Kael's face and kissed him so thoroughly that the entire ballroom fell silent.

When the music finally resumed, Kael stood in the center of the dance floor, his face bright red as the girls exchanged smug smiles.

"Great," he muttered under his breath. "Another scandal."

The ride home was no less chaotic.

Ayame leaned against Kael's shoulder, playing with his tie. "So, sugar, how does it feel bein' the most wanted man in the room?"

Koko smirked, her hand resting on his knee. "Yeah, Pretty Boy. Any regrets about inviting us?"

Kael sighed, looking out the window. "I just wanted a quiet night. How did it turn into this?"

Miu chuckled softly from across the limo. "Oh, darling, quiet nights don't suit you. You're destined for greatness… and chaos, apparently."

Kael closed his eyes, silently praying for Turbo's guidance.

You're on your own, buddy, Turbo replied. But hey, at least you're living the dream.

Kael groaned. "If this is the dream, I'm terrified of the nightmare."

The girls laughed, their earlier rivalry temporarily forgotten as they teased Kael mercilessly. Despite the insanity, there was a warmth in the limo that Kael couldn't deny. For better or worse, this was his life now—and deep down, he didn't really mind.

After the night car ride they went to there dorms

And as Kael lay in bed, staring at the ceiling of his dorm room, his mind a whirlwind of thoughts. The gala had been far more eventful than he anticipated, and while Ayame, Koko, and Miu's escalating affection wasn't exactly new, it was starting to weigh on him.

"Why is my life like this?" he muttered, turning onto his side. Turbo's usual sarcastic remarks were notably absent, leaving him alone with his thoughts.

Eventually, sleep overtook him.

Kael wasn't sure what woke him. He felt the faint sensation of something—or someone—pressing against him. Still half-asleep, he opened his eyes and froze.

Miu was straddling him, her flawless figure illuminated by the faint moonlight streaming through the curtains. She was entirely unclothed, her golden hair tumbling over her shoulders and her piercing blue eyes locking onto his.

"Miu?" Kael croaked, sitting up abruptly, though his movements were hindered by her. "What are you doing here?! And… why are you naked?!"

She didn't answer immediately, her gaze flickering with vulnerability, something Kael had never seen in her before. Finally, she sighed, her voice soft but tinged with jealousy.

"I can't stand it, Kael," she said, running a hand through her hair. "Not because you're spending time with other women. You used to do that all the time…"

Miu bit her lip, looking down at him with uncharacteristic hesitation. "It's the way you seem to enjoy their company. I thought I'd be the only one who got that part of you."

Kael blinked. "Miu…"

"I'm not mad," she continued quickly. "It's not like I hate them. Ayame and Koko… they're actually kind of amazing, and it's obvious they're deeply in love with you. But… I'm jealous, Kael. Not of them, but of the fact that you might… feel the same way about them I just don't want to get replaced."

Kael's mouth opened, then closed. He didn't know what to say.

Miu leaned in, her lips brushing against his ear as she whispered, "But I won't lose to them, you know." Before he could respond, she kissed him, slow and deliberate, her body pressing against his in a way that sent his thoughts spiraling.

Kael woke to the sound of his dorm room door slamming open. He shot up in bed, only to freeze when he felt Miu still draped across him, her blonde hair spilling over his chest.

"Yo, Kael, what's taking you so long—HOLY HELL!" Ren, Kael's friend, stood frozen in the doorway, his face turning every shade of red imaginable.

"Dude, what—" Xolotl, the tan blonde with a streak of baby blue, peeked in and promptly burst out laughing. "No way! No way! Kael, are you serious right now?"

"Who's screaming?" Hayashi, the white-haired guy with a scar running down his face, walked in. He stopped mid-step, his single visible eye widening in shock.

Miu, to her credit, remained utterly calm. She sat up, completely unbothered by the stares, and smiled serenely. "Good morning, boys. I'll be leaving now."

Grabbing a nearby blanket, she wrapped it around herself, leaned over to kiss Kael on the cheek, and sauntered out of the room as if nothing had happened.

The silence she left behind was deafening.

Ren was the first to recover. "Kael. What. The hell. Was that?!"

Xolotl was too busy laughing to speak, tears streaming down his face as he clutched his sides. "Bro! A naked woman! In your bed! You've officially become a legend."

Hayashi, ever the composed one, sat down at the edge of the bed, rubbing his temples. "Kael. Explain. Now."

Kael groaned, running a hand through his hair. "Okay, okay, fine. Here's the deal…"

He launched into an explanation, starting with how he met Ayame, the adventurous and flirtatious Midwestern girl, and their unexpected connection. He talked about Koko, the fiery and competitive girl he met on the first day of school, and how their rivalry had shifted into something… different.

"…so yeah, they kind of had intimacy," Kael admitted, scratching the back of his neck. "But it's not like we're officially in a relationship or anything. And honestly, I don't know what they see in me, but… I kind of enjoy it. Even if they get jealous and possessive over every little thing."

Ren stared at him, dumbfounded. "Dude, they love you. Like, obsessively."

"And now this Miu girl?" Hayashi asked.

Kael sighed. "Miu… well, she's my business partner. We've known each other for a while, and yeah, something happened between us before. But she's… different. Calmer, I guess. Except last night, when she showed up out of nowhere and—"

"You don't need to say it," Ren interrupted, holding up a hand.

"But the gala!" Kael continued, his voice rising. "She kissed me there. Then Ayame and Koko kissed me too. And now I'm in the middle of another scandal, and—"

"Wait, another scandal?" Xolotl cut in, still laughing. "Bro, you're racking them up at this point."

Kael groaned, flopping back onto his bed. "I just wanted a quiet life."

"Dude," Ren said, shaking his head. "You're the youngest billionaire in history, you're literally the most attractive guy alive, and you've got three insanely hot girls fighting over you. A quiet life isn't an option."

"Yeah," Xolotl added, smirking. "Just embrace it, man. You're living every guy's dream."

Kael sighed, staring up at the ceiling. Turbo, why is my life like this?

Because you're irresistible, Turbo replied smugly. And a magnet for chaos.

Kael groaned again. "This isn't a dream. It's a nightmare."

But deep down, as much as he hated to admit it, he didn't mind the chaos. Not entirely.
