"Here's the thing about ominous threats: they're usually followed by something terrible happening. Case in point, my life. I'd like to say I saw it coming, but let's be honest—I was too busy dodging Blobby's bad advice to notice."

---

It's another uneventful day at school. Or so I think.

Reina and I are walking to class when Kira suddenly appears, cutting us off in the hallway.

"We have a problem," she says, her tone grim.

"Don't we always?" I reply, already bracing for the worst.

She ignores me, turning to Reina. "I need to borrow him."

"Excuse me?" Reina says, her eyes narrowing.

"There's no time to argue," Kira snaps. "They've sent someone."

"When your stalker says, 'They've sent someone,' you know it's not going to be a friendly neighborhood bake sale."

---

Kira doesn't wait for a response, grabbing my arm and dragging me outside.

"Care to explain?" I ask as we sprint across campus.

"The council sent an enforcer," she says. "A high-level assassin. They must've decided you're too much of a threat to leave alone."

"Great," I mutter. "So, what's the plan?"

"Don't die," she says flatly.

"Helpful," I deadpan.

---

We reach the edge of the school grounds, where a figure is waiting for us.

Tall, clad in sleek black armor, and wielding a massive glaive, they exude an aura of pure menace.

"Akira Tanaka," the enforcer says, their voice cold and mechanical. "Your time is up."

"Wow," I say, clapping slowly. "Real original."

"Here's a tip for would-be assassins: maybe try a catchphrase that doesn't sound like it came from a bad action movie."

---

The enforcer doesn't waste time with more banter, charging at us with terrifying speed.

Kira shoves me aside, drawing her blade to intercept the attack.

The clash of steel rings out, and sparks fly as their weapons meet.

---

"Kira, you're supposed to be my stalker, not my bodyguard!" I shout, scrambling to my feet.

"Shut up and stay out of the way!" she snaps, parrying another strike.

Blobby pops out of my bag, chirping excitedly. "Boss, this is your chance to shine! Go help her!"

"Help her?" I echo. "With what? Moral support?"

---

Kira manages to push the enforcer back, but it's clear she's struggling.

"Akira," she calls over her shoulder, her voice strained. "You need to use your power."

"Uh, no thanks!" I reply. "Last time I did that, things got a little…explosive."

"Do it, or we're both dead!" she snaps.

"Ah, the classic 'use your hidden power or die' dilemma. You'd think I'd be used to it by now, but nope. Still terrifying."

---

With no other option, I close my eyes and focus, reaching for the faint ember of power buried deep within me.

The air around me shifts, growing heavy with energy.

When I open my eyes, a faint golden aura surrounds me.

"Alright," I say, stepping forward. "Let's see what this does."

---

The enforcer turns their attention to me, their visor gleaming ominously.

"You dare challenge me?" they say, raising their glaive.

"Not really," I admit. "But I don't have much of a choice, do I?"

---

They charge at me, their glaive slicing through the air with deadly precision.

Time seems to slow as I raise my hand, instinctively summoning a barrier of shimmering light.

The glaive strikes the barrier, and the impact sends shockwaves rippling through the ground.

---

"Whoa," I mutter, staring at my glowing hand. "That actually worked?"

Blobby cheers from the sidelines. "You're amazing, Boss!"

"Don't jinx it," I snap, focusing on maintaining the barrier.

---

Kira takes advantage of the distraction, launching a flurry of attacks at the enforcer.

Her blade finds its mark, slicing through a gap in their armor.

The enforcer staggers, dark energy leaking from the wound.

"This isn't over," they growl, retreating into the shadows.

---

As soon as they're gone, the golden aura around me fades, and I collapse to the ground, completely drained.

"Well," I say between gasps, "that was…fun."

Kira glares at me. "You call that fun?"

"Not really," I admit. "But at least we're not dead."

---

Meanwhile…

Back at the shadow council's lair, the enforcer kneels before the leader.

"I underestimated him," the enforcer admits.

The leader's voice is calm but menacing. "Then you'll get another chance. Next time, do not fail."

The enforcer nods, their visor glowing ominously.
