"So, let me get this straight: I survived a meeting with a shadowy organization that thinks I'm a walking nuke, and now my sentient blob has decided it's time to play secret agent. At what point did my life turn into a bad spy thriller?"
---
By the time we're back in town, Kira has slipped into her usual routine of passive-aggressive silence. I can practically feel her judgment radiating off her as we walk.
"You don't have to look at me like that," I say.
"Like what?" she replies, her tone sharp.
"Like you're regretting every decision that led you to this moment."
"I regret nothing," she says coolly. "But I'm wondering how someone as reckless as you managed to survive this long."
"Charm," I quip.
Blobby bounces out of my bag, piping up, "And me! Don't forget me, Boss!"
---
Kira sighs, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Akira, if your blob companion is your best plan for survival, you're doomed."
"Hey!" Blobby protests. "I'm the MVP of this team! Watch this!"
Before I can stop it, Blobby launches itself into the air, bouncing onto a nearby rooftop.
"What are you doing?!" I shout.
"Recon mission!" it declares proudly. "I'm going to spy on the Order!"

"In hindsight, letting Blobby develop a sense of independence might have been a mistake. Then again, it's hard to control something that doesn't have a spine—or common sense."
---
Kira groans. "You can't be serious."
"Do I look like I have control over that thing?" I shoot back, already scrambling to follow.
We chase after Blobby as it hops from roof to roof with surprising agility.
"Where does it even get the energy for this?" Kira mutters.
"Don't ask questions you don't want the answers to," I reply.
---
Eventually, Blobby comes to a halt near the edge of town, peering down at a group of cloaked figures gathered in an alleyway.
"Boss, look!" it whispers loudly.
"Shh!" I hiss, pulling it back before it can do something stupid.
From our hiding spot, I can hear snippets of the conversation below.
"...the artifact is secure."
"Good. We'll need it if the dragon's power awakens fully."
Kira tenses beside me. "Artifact?" she whispers.
"Sounds important," I reply, my mind already racing.
---
One of the figures pulls out a small, glowing object—a crystalline orb swirling with dark energy.
"That doesn't look ominous at all," I mutter.
Blobby, clearly fascinated, starts inching closer.
"Don't you dare," I warn.
Too late.
Blobby leaps off the roof, landing right in the middle of the group.
"Hi, everyone!" it chirps. "What's that shiny thing you've got there?"

"There are moments in life when you can feel your soul leave your body. Watching your blob sidekick introduce itself to a group of people who might want you dead is definitely one of them."
---
The cloaked figures freeze, staring at Blobby in stunned silence.
"What is that?" one of them asks.
"It's...alive?" another mutters.
Blobby puffs up proudly. "I'm Blobby, Akira's loyal companion! Nice to meet you!"
"Akira?" the leader repeats, their tone turning sharp. "The dragon?"
Blobby realizes its mistake a second too late. "Uh...did I say Akira? I meant...um...not-Akira!"
---
Kira and I exchange a glance.
"We need to get it out of there," she says.
"Agreed," I reply, already moving.
We drop down into the alley, landing between the cloaked figures and Blobby.
"Hey, there!" I say, trying for a casual tone. "Fancy meeting you here."
The leader narrows their eyes. "You shouldn't be here."
"Yeah, well, my blob has a habit of wandering off," I reply. "You know how it is."
---
Kira steps forward, her hand resting on the hilt of her blade. "Hand over the artifact," she demands.
The leader laughs coldly. "And why would we do that?"
"Because I asked nicely?" I offer.
Kira glares at me. "You're not helping."
"Wasn't trying to," I mutter.
---
Before things can escalate further, Blobby makes its move.
"Don't worry, Boss! I've got this!"
It launches itself at the leader, wrapping around their arm and yanking the orb free.
"Run!" Blobby yells, bouncing back toward us.
Kira doesn't hesitate, grabbing my arm and dragging me out of the alley.
"You owe me for this," she snaps as we sprint away.
"Put it on my tab," I reply, clutching the stolen artifact.

"Pro tip: if you're going to steal something from a shadowy organization, make sure you have an escape plan. Or at least a blob that's weirdly good at improvised theft."
---
By the time we're a safe distance away, my heart is pounding, and Kira looks like she's ready to murder me.
Blobby, meanwhile, is bouncing with excitement.
"Did you see that, Boss? I was amazing!"
"You're also grounded," I say, snatching the orb from its grip.
Kira examines the artifact, her expression grim. "This...isn't good."
"Understatement of the year," I mutter.
---
The orb pulses with dark energy, and for a moment, I swear I can hear whispers—faint, but insistent.
"What do we do with it?" I ask.
"We need to destroy it," Kira says firmly.
"Destroy it?" Blobby protests. "But it's so shiny!"
Ignoring Blobby's complaints, I nod. "Fine. But let's figure out how to do that without blowing up half the town."

"So, to recap: we've got a cursed artifact, a shadow council probably plotting my demise, and a blob that thinks it's a secret agent. Just another day in the life of Akira Takahashi."
