chapter 30
29 – The Cult of Destruction (5)
‘W-what is this….’
Descending into the underground, Arian covered her mouth at the bizarre and horrifying scene before her.
Iron bars resembling a prison, and the grotesque creatures trapped inside.
She had heard that cultists did many vile things, but she never imagined it would be to this extent.
It was truly beyond imagination.
It was hard to believe that the ones who did such things were the same humans.
As she turned her head, trying to suppress the feeling of nausea that was about to rise, she saw the saintess, just as Franz had mentioned.
The saintess was kneeling, her hands clasped in front of her chest, reciting a prayer.
From her body flowed a brilliant golden divine power, and the grotesque creature inside the iron bars was gradually returning to a human form.
But it didn’t seem easy, as beads of sweat were forming on the saintess’s forehead.
Anyway.
Franz had left his coat somewhere, and the saintess had it.
She must have been bothered by the fact that she was only wearing pajamas.
Because the pajamas were so thin and fluttery, almost see-through.
‘Wait, pajamas?’
Arian was momentarily upset, but soon shook her head and erased the thought.
No matter what, she couldn’t be jealous while the saintess was suffering like that.
And the saintess must have been embarrassed too.
She was in her pajamas when she was suddenly taken away.
Moreover, it was by a man she was interested in?
Why did she have to be wearing those pajamas today? She would probably kick her blanket in frustration for a week.
Anyway.
‘Is it okay up there?’
Arian was worried about Franz and the hero who were in the social hall.
It was clear that Duke Ishtar was up to something.
Even though she thought the hero and the tower master would be fine, a corner of her heart remained uneasy.
Then it happened.
Boom-!
Suddenly, a loud noise was heard and the ground shook.
The magic stone lamp hanging on the wall shook violently and fell to the floor, and dust fell from the ceiling.
In the midst of all this, Justia continued to pray, undisturbed.
Her clothes remained clean, not a speck of dust on them.
Thanks to Arian, who had created a transparent mana barrier just in time to protect her.
‘That scared me…’
Arian clutched her startled heart and looked up.
Something must have happened in the social hall.
It shouldn’t be anything serious…
The small anxiety in her heart grew larger.
How much time had passed like that?
Sweat droplets formed on the tip of Justia’s chin and fell to the floor, her breaths becoming rough.
When Justia finally stopped reciting the prayer.
The bizarre monster that had been in the iron cage was gone, and only two women with red hair lay on the cold floor.
It was uncertain if it was possible after being exposed to the magic for so long, but Justia had done it.
“It’s, it’s all over.”
As she said that and tried to get up, Justia’s vision suddenly went dark.
At the same time, she felt something warm trickling down from her nose.
She had stood up too quickly after using too much holy power, causing a momentary dizziness.
“Oh, really…”
Arian hurriedly supported her and took out a handkerchief to hand to her.
Justia, barely regaining her balance, took the handkerchief and wiped away the nosebleed.
‘Admirable.’
Arian respected the saintess, regardless of his personal feelings.
How many people in the world could sacrifice themselves like that for others?
He felt he understood why she was called a saintess.
Of course, that didn’t mean he would hand over Franz.
Soon, Arian sent a telepathic message to Franz.
[It’s all over. Both women are safe.]
* * * * *
This was before Justia saved Yuna’s mother and younger sister.
Boom-!
Magic clashed with magic, creating a thunderous roar.
“Do you have any idea how much effort I’ve put into this day?! It’s been seven years since the hero appeared! I’ve been waiting for this moment for seven years! And you dare to ruin it!”
Duke Ishtar was practically spitting with rage.
He was firing off magic like a madman, and it was truly annoying.
He wanted to kill him, but he couldn’t bring himself to do it, which was frustrating.
It felt like a fly he couldn’t kill kept buzzing around his face.
‘This won’t do.’
In the end, Franz decided to take a hardline approach.
If you play around too much, you should know when to give up, but his passion was overwhelming.
Snap-.
When Franz snapped his fingers, a giant magic circle appeared beneath Duke Ishtar’s feet.
And then, chains shot out from the magic circle, binding the duke’s body.
It was an application of the sealing magic he used.
There was a phrase for this situation, surely…
“Ishutar, your magic is amazing.”
Yes, that was it.
“And you think you’ll get away with this! I’ll tear your limbs apart and kill you! Your secretary, the saint, the hero, and that elf too! I’ll rip them all to shreds…”
Unable to ignore the insults any longer, Franz teleported right in front of the duke.
As Franz began to move his finger slowly in a circle, the duke’s arm, bound in chains, started to twist.
“Stop, stop it! aaargh-!”
Snap, crack.
Tendons and muscles tore, and the skin, unable to stretch any further, ripped apart.
Only after completely severing the arm from the body did Franz’s finger stop.
Franz grabbed the duke by the hair and lifted his head to meet his eyes.
“Keep talking. I’ll make you wish you were dead.”
Gulp.
Duke Ishutar swallowed hard.
His eyes were filled with fear.
He couldn’t move, and magic was useless, so what was he relying on to act so arrogantly?
Was he perhaps not very bright?
Well, if he had been smart, he wouldn’t have thought of cooperating with the cult or using the hero in the first place.
Franz let go of the duke’s hair and turned to approach Yuna, who was also bound in chains.
“Franz, release me right now.”
Yuna’s voice was calmer than ever.
It was almost chilling.
They say that when anger reaches its peak, some people become calm. Yuna was exactly like that now.
If he released the seal now, she would probably destroy the world.
So, sorry, but he couldn’t grant that wish.
Instead, he had some good news to share.
[It’s all over. Both women are safe.]
It was a telepathic message from Arian.
Though he wasn’t sure, Justia had finally succeeded.
Franz cheered inwardly.
Finally, finally, there was an end in sight to this damned turning point.
“Yuna, your mother and sister are safe.”
Franz said softly with a smile.
Then, life gradually returned to Yuna’s eyes.
She blinked, then opened them wide as if they would tear.
“Really, really? Mom and my sister are alive?!”
“Yes, Justia worked hard. Thank her later.”
“Where, where are they?! I, I want to see them. Quickly…!”
At Yuna’s urging, Franz immediately brought Arian, Justia, and two red-haired women from the basement.
Yuna’s family was not in good condition.
They were so thin they seemed skeletal, and their skin was pale.
But they were definitely alive.
The faint sound of breathing and the rise and fall of their chests were proof of that.
“Mom, Yuria…!”
Yuna cried out desperately.
Her voice, full of moisture, somehow made the tip of Franz’s nose tingle.
“Franz, quickly, quickly release this.”
“Okay.”
Franz sent mana into the large magic circle drawn on the floor.
Then, the layers of the magic circle began to scatter into the air one by one, and the chains binding Yuna’s body gradually loosened.
After a while, when only three chains remained, there was a crack.
The chains seemed to crack, and Yuna broke them and stood up.
Ha-.
A hollow laugh escaped from Franz’s mouth.
No matter how weak they had become, they shouldn’t have been able to break free on their own.
Well, it just showed how great her love for her family was.
‘It’s a relief.’
It was a relief for Yuna, who had regained her family, and for himself, who no longer had to deal with such a Yuna.
“Mom, Yuria…”
Yuna hugged the two lying on the floor.
Her tears flowed down her cheeks and fell from her chin.
Franz, who was not used to such situations, turned his head and awkwardly scratched his nose.
He felt that if he kept watching, he might be moved for no reason.
Anyway, with this, Yuna safely passed her bad ending branching point.
Now, there was only one thing left.
It was to deal with Duke Ishtar, the root cause of this situation.
Yuna’s eyes, wiping her tears with the back of her hand, gleamed fiercely.
