The Possessor Mistook the Genre for 20 Years

chapter 50

49 – The Hero and the Mage’s Cave Date.

“Yuna, let’s change to another house.”

Franz said after much deliberation.

No matter how much he thought about it, it was a problem that couldn’t be overlooked.

Of course, nothing might happen.

The cultists might surrender quietly, or perhaps they might have already fled.

But if there was even the slightest chance of a problem, it was right to avoid it.

He just felt a little sorry for Yuna.

She had painstakingly chosen the house she liked the most, and now he was asking her to change it.

“Huh? Why? Is there something wrong with it?”

Yuna tilted her head in confusion.

Something wrong, of course there was.

Something very wrong.

If he could have told her in advance, this wouldn’t have happened, but unfortunately, he had heard about the code too late.

“There might be cultists hiding in that rocky mountain you just mentioned. And not just any cultists, but high-ranking ones? They’re that strong.”

In the end, Franz confessed the truth.

It seemed easier to persuade her by being honest rather than making up strange excuses.

There was no worry about the information leaking out.

Yuna wasn’t the type to go around telling people.

The only thing he had overlooked was,

“Cultists…?”

Yuna felt extreme anger towards the cultists.

Her eyes were fierce, as if she would find and tear them apart no matter what.

It was only natural, as it was the cultists who had kidnapped her family and committed terrible acts.

‘This is bad…’

The moment he saw Yuna’s eyes, Franz realized.

She would definitely find and kill the cultists.

If the house was in danger because of the cultist, she chose to eliminate the source.

It was an incredibly brave choice to face adversity head-on, but the underlying motive was not justice, but hatred.

Franz could only feel pity for her.

She had received a wound that would never heal.

He wanted to stop her actions, but he probably couldn’t.

He couldn’t keep her by his side and watch her all the time.

‘I made a mistake.’

He thought he could persuade her by revealing the truth, but it only made it impossible to persuade her.

So, would he give up…?

He had to give up, what else could he do?

Even if he persuaded her now, she would act on her own.

At least, that’s what he had seen so far.

If she was willing to run up to the magic tower, how much more would she act on her own?

He was giving up on persuading her, not on the situation entirely.

What was his original purpose in seeking out Yuna?

It was to decipher the code and find the Seven Deadly Sins to subdue them.

In conclusion, that was it.

If he couldn’t persuade her, it was better to move together.

The house might collapse because of the cultist…

But then he could just buy a similar one.

He had more money than he could ever spend in a lifetime anyway.

“Just in case, don’t go off to kill the cultist alone, okay?”

“Th-that’s right…?!”

At Franz’s words, Yuna’s eyes shook violently as if an earthquake had struck.

As expected, she seemed to be planning to catch the cultist.

“Wait at home for now. I’ll come to pick you up at night.”

“Huh? Why at night?”

“Why do you think? If we’re going to catch him, let’s go together.”

Franz said as if it was the most natural thing in the world.

Yuna’s eyes widened, and then she nodded repeatedly.

Then, shall I go and catch up on the backlog of work?

Snap-.

Franz snapped his fingers.

* * * * *

In the rocky mountains of the Duchy of Ishtar, where the terrain was high and rugged, there was a massive cave that ordinary people wouldn’t even think of setting foot in.

Drip-.

Inside the dark and damp cave.

The small sound of water droplets falling echoed unusually loudly.

The structure of the cave was like an ant nest.

The paths were tangled and stretched out in dozens of directions, resembling tree roots.

And in the deepest part of the cave.

There was a short woman.

“Hmm-, is this pretty?”

The woman was examining something, pondering.

What she held in her hand was a bear’s head.

It was covered in stiff fur, and sharp teeth jutted menacingly from its mouth.

Drip-, drip-,

Blood flowed from the head, down her arm, and dripped from her elbow.

A red puddle had already formed on the floor.

After pondering for a long time, she shook her head and gently placed it on the ground.

Then she picked up another head that was beside her.

It was definitely smaller than the bear’s head she had just held.

It was a human’s, so it was naturally smaller.

“Humans are indeed prettier.”

Humming as if she had made a decision, she headed somewhere.

Soon, she arrived at a place where there was a spider corpse about the size of a human torso.

With a gesture of her hand, the spider’s head was neatly severed.

Then, as she placed the human head on the cut surface and let out her magic, tentacle-like things wriggled out and attached the two together.

“You pass. Go into room number 6.”

As soon as the woman’s words fell, the spider with the human head began to move.

The human and the spider, both were clearly dead.

If an ordinary person saw this, they would surely not believe their eyes.

But to her, it was a sight she was all too familiar with.

To Belphegor of Sloth, that is.

“What should I make with the bear’s head-.”

Belphegor muttered to herself as she took a step forward.

What caught her eye was the bear’s head, the body of a giant fish, the legs of a human, and the arms of a lizard.

It seemed another masterpiece was about to be born.

It was then.

A subtle sensation was conveyed through the air.

It was not the feeling of something dead, but the fresh feeling of something raw.

A guest, a guest.

The corners of Belphegor’s mouth lifted upwards.

She was excited at the thought of obtaining new materials.

* * * * *

It was a night where the moon illuminated the world instead of the sun.

Snap-.

Franz snapped his fingers and arrived in front of Yuna’s house.

Looking at the old and shabby house, he could understand why Yuna wanted to change houses.

Knock knock-.

When Franz knocked on the door, a voice soon came from beyond the door.

“Just a moment.”

It was a voice similar to Yuna’s, but a bit thinner.

Soon, the door opened, and it was Yuna’s younger sister, Yuria, who appeared.

The dark circles that had been deeply set were gone, and although she was still thin, she looked relatively fine.

Compared to the time when she had the accident, her condition had certainly improved.

“Oh-, hello.”

Yuria, upon seeing Franz, immediately bowed her head in greeting.

Franz also lightly bowed his head in response.

“Ah, yes. Hello.”

I came to meet my friend, but it was his younger sister who came out.

An extremely uncomfortable and awkward atmosphere began to flow between the two.

Fortunately, the savior appeared not long after.

“Franz, sorry. I was just dozing off for a moment.”

Yuna came out, wiping the corner of her mouth with the back of her hand.

Her eyes were half-open, still looking sleepy.

“Sister…!”

Yuria was startled and began to hit Yuna’s back repeatedly.

But the warrior’s body was strong.

Yuna’s expression didn’t change at all, as if nothing had happened.

“Huh? Why?”

“Just, just follow me…!”

Yuria bowed her head to Franz and went back into the house with Yuna.

Franz thought he roughly understood why she did that.

It must have bothered her that her sister came out to meet a friend while wiping her drool.

He didn’t know what they were doing, though.

When Yuna came out again, she looked completely different from before.

Her red hair was neatly tied, and she was wearing a dress instead of pants and a t-shirt.

Of course, even though it was a dress, it wasn’t something fancy that a noble would wear, but rather quite plain.

In short, it was the kind of clothes that commoners would wear.

“I’m, I’m sorry. My sister is a bit careless.”

“Oh, it’s fine. It’s not the first time.”

At Franz’s words, Yuria’s palm struck again.

It seemed that the younger sister was more responsible than her sister.

“Ah, this is a gift.”

Franz handed a gift to Yuria.

It wasn’t anything special, just a set of dishes and some tea leaves.

He didn’t know what to buy, so he just bought something appropriate.

“Is it okay for us to accept this…? We should be the ones giving you something in return….”

“It’s fine. Just accept it comfortably.”

If you don’t accept it, it becomes a burden.

Anyway, it has to be left somewhere.

“Th-then, I will gratefully accept it…”

Yuria bowed her head.

So much that it seemed her head might touch her feet.

With that conversation over, Franz and Yuna left, with Yuria seeing them off.

The light flickered, and the place where they appeared was in front of the rocky mountain, the mansion they had seen during the day.

“Yuna, so you’re saying that mountain is where the dragon or whatever is?”

“Yes, we’ll probably know when the sun rises.”

“Well, I don’t really plan to check.”

There was no need to confirm whether the code was real or not.

They were going to search the entire rocky mountain anyway.

Snap-.

When Franz snapped his fingers, the light flickered, and their figures appeared at the top of the rocky mountain.

Looking down, it was dizzyingly high.

There was no chance of falling, but if they did, an ordinary person would probably just die.

‘Now, let’s see where it’s hiding.’

Franz began to spread mana around to detect where it was hiding, and soon found a place filled with sticky and unpleasant mana.

It was a cave.

From within the very large cave, dark energy was flowing out.

The energy was so thick that it couldn’t be detected all the way inside.

“Found it.”

“Let’s go right away.”

Franz used teleportation to arrive at the cave entrance with Yuna.

The unpleasant mana flowing out of the cave made Franz’s brow furrow.

Having a keen sense for mana was quite inconvenient at times like this.

Well, regardless, it was something that had to be done.

Franz and Yuna stepped straight inside.

Into the cave filled with dark energy.
