chapter 56
55 – Arian entered the room.
Not long after Franz waited at the entrance of the cathedral, Justia and the holy knights arrived.
“Master of the Tower, nice to meet you.”
A familiar-faced holy knight bowed his head politely.
Likewise, Franz bowed his head.
“Yes, nice to meet you.”
“The Saintess said you caught the cultist again this time….”
Thud-.
Franz lowered Belphegor, who had been floating in the air, in front of him.
The impact made the guy squirm and open his eyes.
“Ugh, ugh…. What the hell happened….”
Belphegor blinked and lifted his head, meeting the eyes of the holy knight.
A moment of silence followed in that state,
“Wha, what…! Why is a holy knight here…!”
The guy freaked out and waved his hand in the air.
It seemed that was his magic trigger.
But despite his actions, a calm silence flowed in the cathedral.
Because his mana circuits and core had been burned out.
Right now, he was nothing more than an ordinary old man who couldn’t use magic.
The holy knight, who had been about to draw his sword, realized that the man’s actions were harmless and relaxed.
“Why can’t I use magic…!”
The man swung his arms repeatedly with a look of shock on his face.
But the result was the same.
Swish-, swish-.
Only a faint sound of his hand slicing through the air could be heard, but no magic was activated.
“Wh-why is my mana… What did you do to me…?!”
Belphegor glared at Franz with wide eyes.
Mentioning mana, it seemed he had finally realized the state of his body.
But even if he realized it, nothing would change.
There was no way to restore the circuits and core that had already been burned out.
Thinking it was time to wrap up the conversation, Franz got straight to the point.
“Holy knight, I’ve made sure he can’t use magic, so there’s no need to be on guard.”
“As expected of the Tower Master. Impressive.”
“Then, I’ll leave it to you as before.”
That was the end of their conversation.
The holy knight, who had bowed his head to Franz, grabbed Belphegor by the collar and started dragging him somewhere.
I don’t know exactly where they’re going, but it’s probably hell.
“Let go of me!! You wretched people who don’t even know how to respect the elderly…!”
Belphegor struggled with all his might, but unfortunately, his old man’s strength was not enough.
Following him, the holy knights and priests retreated, leaving only Justia standing alone, facing Franz.
The moonlight casting a dim glow created a strange atmosphere, and Justia stepped forward.
“Franz.”
“What?”
“Why didn’t you call me this time? Every time, every time, you call me at your whim.”
Justia grumbled in a tone full of complaints.
‘What…?’
Of course, Franz couldn’t understand what Justia was saying.
After all, the only thing he had done to her was take her away and use her as a purification device.
Even feeding him elixirs to push him to his limits, it was something to be pleased about, not something to grumble about.
‘Could it be that?’
There are people who find satisfaction in taking on difficult and painful tasks.
In the context of the 21st century, it would be like volunteering to be the team leader for a group project or taking charge of a project.
If Justia was that type of person, it was entirely possible.
“Then should I call you next time?”
“Oh, no. It’s not that I absolutely want you to call me. It’s just that… when things get resolved without me, I feel a bit… never mind! Just don’t call me.”
Justia, who had been rambling, suddenly snapped in anger.
Then she turned her head sharply as if sulking.
‘What on earth is this?’
Franz couldn’t understand her behavior no matter how much he thought about it.
So he decided to stop thinking.
It’s faster to give up on understanding something incomprehensible.
After all, it wasn’t a particularly important matter.
Anyway, since the business was done, it was time to head back.
“Justia, call me if you get any information.”
“Are you leaving?”
“Why? Do you have something to say?”
“Well, not really. Just wanted to say goodbye.”
Justia still seemed upset, speaking in a grumpy tone.
In the past, he would have been angry at her words, but recently, their relationship had improved so much that it didn’t bother him at all.
He never thought he would have this kind of relationship with Justia.
It was a situation that truly fit the saying, “You have to live long to see everything.”
“Then, I’m off.”
“…Yes. Take care.”
With Justia watching, Franz snapped his fingers.
A magic circle was drawn on the floor, and soon, his figure disappeared as the light flickered.
Left alone in the cathedral, Justia stared blankly at the spot where he had vanished, then belatedly turned to leave.
She wasn’t sure, but there was a strange sense of regret lingering.
* * * * *
As the light flickered, Franz arrived in front of the Magic Tower and leisurely made his way to the Tower Master’s room.
Seeing that the lights were off in both the secretary’s office and the Tower Master’s room, it seemed Arian had left early.
‘She used to say that the secretary should leave later than the Tower Master, but now she’s leaving first.’
Of course, it was just a playful thought.
If there’s no work to do, it’s right to leave early.
He had no intention of becoming a rigid person like some people.
Soon, Franz’s steps led him to his room inside the Tower Master’s room.
When he entered the room and turned on the light, he noticed some unfamiliar things.
They were women’s clothes.
Including underwear.
The colors were quite flashy, so his eyes were immediately drawn to them.
‘Yuna and Arian must have showered here.’
Franz, recalling belatedly, understood why the clothes were there.
Now, the question was how to deal with them….
‘I’ll just leave them.’
They weren’t scattered all over the place, and they were in the laundry basket, so there didn’t seem to be any need to touch them. He could tell Arian about it when she came to work tomorrow.
But then again, Arian could have dried them quickly with magic, so why did she leave them here?
Well, she must have been out of her mind.
The atmosphere wasn’t very good, and she even splashed water in a fit of anger.
Thinking it over lightly, Franz went straight to the shower room.
As he was hit by the warm water, a sound like “Ahhh-” naturally escaped his lips, a sound that old men might make in a bathhouse.
When Franz finished his shower and came out, there was a strange guest in his room.
“Ah?!”
It was Arian.
She was startled when she met Franz’s eyes and dropped what she was holding.
A mix of red and black, um….
“You, you saw it, right?!”
Arian hastily picked up the things she had dropped and hid them in her arms.
Franz silently turned his head.
After showing it, what should I say if asked if I saw it?
With nothing to say, I had no choice but to remain silent.
Thus, an awkward and uncomfortable silence filled Franz’s room for a moment.
“Uhh… Ma, Master of the Tower, what color do you like?!”
At Arian’s completely out-of-the-blue question, Franz’s gaze turned back to her.
Arian’s face was as red as if it were about to explode.
Well, it was natural to be embarrassed since a stranger had seen her underwear.
Anyway, since she seemed to be trying to change the subject, he decided to go along with it.
“Black is probably the best. It’s simple.”
“Si, simple… You like ordinary things.”
“I don’t really like anything flashy.”
“Th, thank you. Then, I’ll be going now. Good night.”
Arian bowed her head and hurriedly tried to leave the room, but unfortunately, another piece of clothing fell from her arms.
“Oh, oh, really….”
She muttered to herself in frustration, picked up the clothing, and finally left the room.
Left alone in the room, Franz stared blankly in the direction she had disappeared, then turned off the light and lay down on the bed.
‘But why did she ask about the color?’
Was she planning to buy a decoration?
Or was she going to give him a tie to use at a party?
Hmm-.
Franz, who had been pondering, eventually gave up and decided to sleep.
Anyway, he would naturally find out as time passed.
Thus, time passed, and the next day came.
When Franz woke up in the morning, he suddenly realized that he didn’t have his robe.
It seemed he had handed it to Justia and returned without it.
‘It was old anyway.’
Thinking it wouldn’t be a bad idea to replace it, he brought it up as soon as Arian arrived at work.
“Arian, do you know where I can get a good robe?”
“Of, of course. I’ll take you there. Just trust me and follow me.”
Sss-.
It seems like just telling me the location would have been enough….
Well, Arian must have her own reasons.
With that thought, Franz set out with Arian.
