The Possessor Mistook the Genre for 20 Years

chapter 9

8 – The Secretary Was Dumbfounded.

The Master of the Tower literally means the owner of the Magic Tower.

And at the same time, it means the owner of the city of Esther, which developed around the Magic Tower.

So where would Franz go after completing his mission?

From the Holy Serpia Cathedral to his front yard in Esther, and from there to his building, the Magic Tower.

Humming a tune, feeling moderately pleased with having prevented the world’s destruction.

His steps were so light, it felt like he could fly.

However, Franz had forgotten one important fact.

The Tower Master had a mountain of tasks to handle every day.

Since the sun was now hanging over the ridge, it was almost certain that he would be working late again today.

Of course, even so, there was no one who would say anything.

It wasn’t as if the responsibility would fall on the wizards if the Tower Master didn’t work, so it was none of their business in the first place.

And wizards didn’t particularly like to interfere with each other.

Even if they wanted to interfere, what wizard could say anything to the Tower Master?

They would just click their tongues behind his back.

But, there was one person.

Among the many wizards, there was one person who was grinding their teeth at the Tower Master’s misdeeds.

It was the Tower Master’s secretary, Arian.

She was processing documents in the secretary’s office, her molars clenched tightly.

Because Franz had abandoned his duties, the amount of work she had to do had increased.

On her desk, there was a crumpled pile of papers.

It was the paper that Franz had left on Arian’s desk early in the morning.

Everyone guessed correctly what it was about.

[Went on a dispatch.]

If using letters like a 21st-century modern person’s messenger was typical of Franz, then it was typical of Franz.

Of course, the recipients were always bewildered.

Arian sighed deeply and thought.

If he really comes back, I won’t let him off.

Of course, Franz, who knew nothing of this, was just walking lightly.

He had completely forgotten about his work, so he had no worries.

Franz only started to feel that something was wrong when he reached the top floor of the tower.

As he was about to enter the Tower Master’s office, he saw that the secretary’s office next door was brightly lit.

Moreover, the sound of papers being turned could be heard incessantly from inside.

‘Ah…?’

It was only then that Franz realized.

Because he had abandoned his duties, Arian was still working.

If they ran into each other like this, Arian would surely start nagging.

However, to get to the Tower Master’s office, he had to somehow pass by the secretary’s office, which was extremely troublesome.

So, there was no choice but to go without moving his feet.

Franz’s figure blinked and disappeared from the corridor, reappearing in the dark Tower Master’s office.

There was no light, so he couldn’t see an inch ahead, but it didn’t matter.

Just as Franz was about to snap his fingers to light up the Tower Master’s office,

“Tower Master…? You’ve finally arrived…?”

Someone whispered in a chilling voice into Franz’s ear.

“Ah-!”

Darkness always brought fear.

Franz was startled and immediately snapped his fingers.

Then, the magical device lit up, brightly illuminating the Tower Master’s office.

Franz turned around immediately to identify who it was.

What he saw was…

A demon.

A demon that would lead the world to ruin.

Its eyes, blazing as if on fire, seemed to shoot out beams of light.

A brief, cold silence flowed between them.

Unable to overcome the awkwardness, Franz smiled sheepishly and spoke first.

“I’m back.”

“Yes, after notifying me with a single piece of paper, did you have a good time… Did the dispatch go well?”

It seemed like they were about to say, “Did you have a good time?”

No matter how harshly Arian usually criticized, it wasn’t to this extent.

So, it could only be thought that they were very angry.

Well, considering the workload was so heavy that they had to work overtime every day, it was only natural since he had abandoned it.

Of course, Franz had his grievances too.

When weighing the Tower Master’s duties against the fate of the world, the latter was obviously heavier.

The problem was that Arian didn’t know that.

Having finished his thoughts, Franz took off the robe he was wearing and said,

“Go home first. I’ll take care of the rest.”

Even though he usually had a hard time, he didn’t want to get involved in this kind of trouble.

Anyway, Arian would have taken care of most things, so there wouldn’t be much left.

However, Arian acted differently from Franz’s consideration.

Arian’s hand snatched the robe that Franz had taken off.

And in the air, with a few swift movements, he folded it neatly.

Arian placed the folded robe neatly and said,

“The Tower Master is so slow that if I leave him alone, he’ll be working until tomorrow morning. Telling me to leave alone, are you trying to make me feel guilty?”

“Enough. You’ve finished your work, so why stay? Just go when I tell you to. Before I change my mind.”

“But if I help, it’ll finish a bit faster, right?”

“It’s fine, just go.”

Franz knew what Arian meant by those words.

When a superior is working hard, the subordinate has to be careful about leaving work.

So even if they’ve finished their work, they have to ask, ‘Is there anything I can help with?’ and get permission to leave.

That’s why Franz had to refuse Arian’s words.

A black-haired Korean of the 21st century had to take on work every day.

Unnecessary bad habits had to be cut off.

Franz sat at his desk and began to look at the documents.

Arian, who was staring at him, turned around and said briefly,

“Oh, I see.”

A cold voice echoed low in the Tower Master’s room.

Arian was about to step out of the Tower Master’s room.

“Good job.”

At Franz’s voice from behind, Arian stopped.

And with a barely audible sigh, he exhaled.

Franz felt puzzled by Arian’s sudden stop at the door, but he didn’t think much of it.

He’ll leave on his own, he thought.

As Franz thought, Arian soon left the Tower Master’s room.

Hearing the sound of footsteps fading away, Franz stretched his arms up.

He hadn’t even started working for long, but his body already felt stiff.

It’s like how going on a picnic is fun, but coming back is tiring.

When you think about it, it wasn’t exactly a vacation.

Franz soon resumed his work.

Scratch-, scratch-.

In the silence, only the sound of the pen echoed.

Application for the use of the land near the Magic Tower…?

Upon checking the contents, it was a proposal to use the land near the Magic Tower as a cemetery.

The sender was, of course, the Necromancer Association.

When told to conduct their experiments outdoors, it seemed they intended to turn the entire Magic Tower into a giant tombstone.

These guys never get tired of it, do they?

Franz wrote the word “rejected” in large letters on the document.

And just as he was about to check the next document.

Click-clack, click-clack-.

Suddenly, he heard footsteps and looked up to see Arian standing at the entrance of the Magic Tower’s main room.

It didn’t seem like she had left something behind…

Her actions were too vague to be looking for a forgotten item.

She was just standing there, staring at Franz.

Unable to contain his curiosity, Franz finally spoke.

“Why?”

“Because I don’t trust the Magic Tower Master.”

“Hey, it’s fine. You’ve worked hard today, go get some rest.”

“If the Magic Tower Master makes a mistake, I’ll suffer too. How can I sleep?”

She wasn’t exactly wrong.

If the Magic Tower Master made a mistake, all the complaints would come to the secretary.

However, Franz had never made a mistake in his work.

The complaints were always from people making absurd claims.

So naturally, Franz was baffled, but he didn’t voice it.

He wondered just how uneasy she must have felt to come back.

Instead, he just gave a suitable answer.

“Do as you please then.”

With that non-permission permission, Arian dragged a chair over and sat across from Franz.

And then he began to help with the paperwork.

Arian’s lips curled up slightly, but Franz did not notice.

* * * * *

“Ahhh…”

The next morning, a sound full of fatigue escaped from Franz’s mouth as he opened his eyes.

It was only natural, as he had worked late into the night.

Fortunately, Arian had helped him, otherwise, he would have been stuck working until morning.

He felt really sorry for Arian, who had suffered with him.

So Franz thought.

Let’s hire another secretary.

This time, since it was just the saintess alone, he managed to handle the work somehow, but if the other two had also caused trouble, he would have had to give up on the work.

And this kind of thing would happen frequently in the future.

It was practically impossible for Arian to handle all of it.

Franz went to the tower and told Arian about it.

“Another secretary besides me, why…?”

The focus disappeared from Arian’s eyes.
