Chapter 14: Positive?
Noctis has been with Grandma for a year now. Right in front of him is a small cake to celebrate his 6th birthday. Noctis is a lot more accustomed to the new environment that he is in. He still gets fascinated with new things, but mostly everything is losing the life it once had.
Noctis's favorite thing is to explore the world, to explore everything. His young and creative mind has no limit. He tries to make something from everything. His dreams are becoming more and more vibrant.
Grandma has been thinking for a while about whether she should send him to school to meet people his age or to show him more of the world. One part of her wants him to be free, but the feeling of being alone again consumes her. On the other hand, showing him more of the world will get dramatically more complicated with her aging body that can't follow a child like she used to do.
Grandma decided to call Noctis and make him decide whether he wanted to go to school or stay.
"Noctis, you are at the age where kids start going to a place called school. In school, there are a lot more people your age with similar interests. I am asking you to tell me if you want to go or stay with Grandma." Grandma looked at a puzzling Noctis.
"Um. I don't know. School, there are many people like me, but I also want to stay with Grandma. I can't decide!" Noctis' two brain cells were not ready for a question like that.
"Why can't I have both? I mean, it's the best answer." Noctis's brain cells managed to create something
"Darling, we can't do that. Now that I think about it, I don't know if I can teach you even ten percent of what schools will teach you. I have decided tomorrow I will try and make you go to the new school year." Grandma messes with Noctis' hair before standing and going to the kitchen.
The next day Noctis heard a knock on the door. He immediately ran and hid, only speaking to see who it was. Seeing that Grandma is speaking and smiling, he decides to come out and meet the man. Noctis sits close to Grandma while the man is in the spot where he normally eats.
"Hello, Principal Sullivan, this is Noctis. I am asking for you to accept him to your school as he is way behind the education level. I have had him under my care for a year, and he is quite a unique boy. Not in my 30 years of teaching have I seen a kid this unique before."
"That is quite the praise coming from one of our best teachers, Mrs. Smith. I mean, I can give him an assessment to see where he should be put, but it will be hard to make him learn things kids have been learning for years." Principal Sullivan looks at Noctis and feels a strange aura emitting from him.
The meeting goes very well, and it's scheduled for Noctis to go to the school of Richard to go and have an assessment to test his intellect.
The day arrives; Noctis is anxious, to say the least, but confident and motivated to make Grandma proud. He and Grandma both arrive at the school. Noctis was surprised to see a building so large, yet the monotonous colors of the sky made him feel uneasy.
When he entered, Principal Sullivan was there to greet him. Leading him to the place where there was only one desk and a seat. The building was colored cream. The room he is going to have his assessment made in is colored the saddest tone of blue he has ever seen. Noctis sits down where a test is waiting for him.
Principal Sullivan explained to Noctis how tests work and how it's an assessment to test how much he knows. He doesn't have to know all of them; he just has to answer them to the best of his abilities. Principal Sullivan puts a timer of an hour on him to answer the 20-question test.
The test is the hardest thing that Noctis has ever done. It was struggle after struggle. His first struggle was trying to hold the pencil; not knowing how to hold it, he managed to hold it straight up. His next struggle was answering the question. He knows how to read, but the questions were about topics too advanced for him. Deciding to circle everything that he can create a picture with. The math and science questions were the easiest due to his unparalleled creativity and his hunger for those topics.
The test was over, and Noctis was sweating bullets, not knowing if he did well. Principal Sullivan grabbed the paper and started to skim over it, getting more and more surprised at how he managed to get all of them right. Not saying anything to Noctis, he ushers Noctis to follow him to his new classroom.
"Class! This is your new student. His name is Noctis. Please be kind to him, and goodbye." Without further explanation, Principal Sullivan dropped Noctis in a place where everyone started to stare at him.
Noctis's first reaction is to look down; however, when he looks down, he catches a glimpse of the exact girl he saw on the train. He decided to sit beside her. Her seat was separated from the rest of the students due to her talkative nature.
In the blink of an eye, Noctis has now graduated middle school. His whole middle school journey was filled with calmness and learning about the world. Becoming friends with the girl on the train named Luna helped his development as a human being.
After years of developing feelings for Luna, he decides to confess while on stage with everyone, even Grandma seeing him now become a teenager. Luna says yes, and the whole crowd erupts in cheer. Both class toppers are going to the same school and dating.
Noctis, now about 170 cm, has his wavy hair becoming curlier and his eyes remaining the same pitch black. Noctis' creative mind has managed to get him into a prestigious school for arts and architecture. Everything was looking up for Noctis; he started to date Luna, and he was accepted into his dream school. What could prevent him from living his best life?
…
Noctis looks down as he sees the casket of Grandma being lowered in front of his eyes. Noctis only sensed the tears dropping, his face stuck, his heart and mind spiraling out of control.
All he can think is, "What went wrong?"
