Chapter 150
From their first visit to the chancellor’s office, challenging the warning letter, the two maintained a secret relationship.
Look at those unwavering, cold eyes, uncharacteristic of a 13-year-old boy.
They were undoubtedly the eyes of Cyan Vert that Kundel had seen for the past two years.
If there was any difference, it was that they seemed much heavier than usual.
“Ch- Chancellor?!”
Officials who followed him rushed into Cyan’s room one after another.
Kundel, without even glancing at them, indifferently said,
“Everyone, leave us. Stay far from the door…”
The officials, after exchanging looks, quietly left the room without any objections.
“You too, leave.”
Cyan also instructed his servants to go outside.
Emily and Brian, after exchanging anxious glances and tightly closing their eyes, left the room.
Now, the two were left alone in the room.
-Wooong
Kundel immediately created an anti-eavesdropping barrier as he sat down.
“What secret do you wish to discuss?”
“Consider yourself lucky I didn’t set up a restriction barrier…”
To Cyan’s sarcastic question, the chancellor replied in a cold tone.
“Have you been here all the time during my absence?”
“Wasn’t that the arrangement you made?”
It was an ambiguous answer, difficult to discern the truth from.
“Let me ask you directly. Are you involved in this incident?”
“No.”
“I’ll ask again. Were you at the scene?”
“I was not.”
After a series of firm responses without a moment’s hesitation, a brief silence followed.
“I heard you applied for field training with Set while I was in the imperial city. Is that true?”
“Yes, that’s true. But it was rejected.”
“And yet, why did Set leave the academy? Didn’t he know the application was rejected?”
“Regardless of the approval, he went headlong. Or, perhaps he misunderstood the meaning of rejection.”
As the indifferent answers continued, Kundel’s distrust only deepened.
Meanwhile, Cyan’s eyes remained utterly indifferent, as if he couldn’t care less.
“Just now, when you entered the room, I noticed your shoes. There was sand on them.”
Cyan merely twitched his lips, not replying.
“It was fine golden sand that could not be seen anywhere but the desert. Meaning, it’s impossible to find such sand anywhere in the academy, let alone throughout Luwen. Didn’t I explicitly tell you not to partake in any external activities?”
“…….”
“I still vividly remember the day you first came to me. You told me that not seeing you as a mere ordinary being would be enough, didn’t I?”
“Yes, that’s what happened.”
“Do you know? The true nature of a human cannot be hidden just because one attempts to hide it. You may have tried to draw a line between us by claiming you’re not just ordinary, but looking at your actions over time, they were not just extraordinary but bordering on the bizarre.”
Silence.
“Shall I share a speculation that’s been circling in my mind? Set did not leave the academy alone; you were together. But unlike Set, you kept appearing in the academy. This means, in essence, you left someone or something in your place here.”
As if exercising his right to remain silent, Cyan’s lips barely parted.
“The reason for your unauthorized departure from the academy? That’s none of my business. It’s a simple matter of discipline if two students go off and get up to mischief. But there’s a different reason I’m looking at you with such scrutiny.”
Kundel’s gaze shifted from Cyan to a firmly shut door behind him.
“Answer me. What is the entity that took your place?”
Cyan, with an indifferent gaze, replied without blinking.
“I see no reason to answer that.”
“I’ll ask again. What is the entity in that room?”
The air, already heavy, became even denser.
Their locked gazes showed no signs of wavering, and an intense, invisible tension flowed sharply around them.
“My answer remains the same. Whatever is inside, I have no reason to report to you, Chancellor.”
“What will you do if I decide to check by force?”
Kundel’s eyes were filled with an intensity as if he was about to break down the door right there and then.
After a moment of silence,
“Go ahead and try.”
The moment Cyan’s lips finally moved,
Whoosh!
A fierce whirlwind seemed to burst into the room.
As Cyan’s hair fluttered in every direction and the room’s furnishings fell over, his expression remained unchanged.
“!”
On the other hand, Kundel’s face was severely contorted.
“What have you done?”
“Why do you ask something you already know? I simply made sure you couldn’t open the door.”
It wasn’t a question asked out of ignorance.
Kundel knew from the moment he entered the room that magic was cast on the door.
It wasn’t just that magic was cast; traces of it were meticulously concealed so that its presence was undetectable.
Even then, the eyes of one of the continent’s few 9-star Great Sages could not be deceived.
This Royal Academy was a place he had built up over decades, and he believed there was no corner his influence hadn’t touched.
With a mind no longer willing to extend any courtesy towards this insolent brat, he tried to open the door by manifesting his magic, but…
“How can this be?”
He couldn’t open it.
Despite the spread of Kundel’s magic, who had reached the realm of a Great Sage, the door did not open.
What does that imply?
It means that the magic of the boy before him had withstood his own.
This boy, who is merely 13 years old.
‘Could this boy truly be the reincarnation of a god?’
Kundel, who had thought there was no equal to him in magic across this land, was now taken aback, his pride entering the fray.
Thus, Kundel resolved not to leave this room without opening the door, saying:
“I’ll say it one last time. Dispel the magic and open this door immediately. Otherwise…”
“Otherwise, what will you do?”
“You will no longer receive the fair treatment of an Academy student.”
This was the final line he could draw as a chancellor, and a last warning that if this line was not adhered to, he would not take responsibility for whatever ensued.
At the moment when the tension that had been building finally reached its peak,
Cyan, with the same unchanging gaze from the beginning, replied to the final warning:
“Even if this royal hall were to crumble…”
“The door won’t open.”
At the same moment Kundel raised his hand to gather the mana within his body,
“Do not come to regret this later. This is all your own doing…”
-Creak
“…!?”
At the instant when two sets of eyes, as sharp as spears and swords aimed at each other, snapped open,
The charged atmosphere dissipated suddenly.
The door, which he was confident would never open, opened effortlessly.
From the inside, not the outside.
“What is this…?”
Kundel looked towards the door with an expression he had never made in his life.
A girl who was human, yet did not exude a human aura.
Hands tightly clenched to one side as if nervous.
Even her pale pink hair.
The aura she emitted was unmistakably the same as the one felt earlier in the Luwen alley and Arin’s room.
“Ah, hello…?”
As she bowed her head in greeting, her naive appearance made it impossible not to lower one’s guard.
* * *
In a moment, my head went blank.
Hadn’t I clearly told her not to come out until I opened the door?
Was this what it felt like to see a child disobey their parents for the first time?
And thank goodness it wasn’t a dragon that came out, but a human form!
Look at the bizarre expression on the headmaster’s face, who seemed like he wouldn’t be surprised even by a ghost.
It was more than obvious that she was no ordinary human like us.
“What in the world have you been raising?”
“I should clarify to avoid any misunderstanding; she wasn’t with me from the beginning.”
A sudden headache overwhelmed me, and I grasped my forehead.
Reluctantly, I gestured towards Nana, who was standing still, and she promptly scurried over to sit neatly beside me.
I decided to wait for the headmaster to speak again, but he seemed too shocked to open his mouth easily.
“Is this grandfather the owner here?”
Nana spoke up first, asking on our behalf.
“That’s… true, but… who are you?”
“My name is Nana! Nana Vert! I’ve been living here with Papa, I mean, Cyan Vert, for 2 years now! I love eating delicious food!”
“Nana Vert?”
The headmaster let out a disbelieving chuckle.
“Are you a dragon?”
“Nope! I’m a human!”
A smile bright and without deceit.
They say that when someone is too brazen, it leaves the listener flustered, and that’s exactly how the headmaster looked.
It seemed like he wanted to say, ‘How in the world are you human,’ but he couldn’t bring himself to say it, his lips just kept twitching.
“I’m sorry for coming out unannounced during your conversation! I came out because it seemed like our Papa, I mean, our master, was being misunderstood!”
“There’s a misunderstanding?”
The headmaster immediately asked what she meant.
“Yes! Actually, the one at the scene wasn’t our master but me…….”
“That’s enough, Nana.”
I gently placed a finger on Nana’s lips to stop her from continuing.
“Dad needs to talk more with the grandfather here. Go back inside.”
“Okay, I understand.”
She really does listen well.
After bowing once more towards the headmaster, Nana went back into the room.
As soon as she entered, I immediately cast a spell to prevent eavesdropping around the door.
“Now, let’s hear it from your mouth.”
The chancellor, his eyes filling with venom once again, glared at me and asked.
“The chancellor’s opinion is correct, and so is what that child said.”
I told him everything about the girl, mixing the undeniable truth with a hint of falsehood appropriately.
Having heard the story, the chancellor looked at me with a gaze bordering on contempt.
“You’ve got some nerve! To think you’ve raised a being mixed with dragon’s blood here for two years, even if it’s only half. What were you thinking?”
“You might not believe me, but I thought about killing her several times at first.”
But I didn’t, and that’s why I’ve raised her until now.
“Well, if, as you say, it wasn’t you but that child who killed those mercenaries, then from now on, I must hold that child responsible for her crimes. Are you alright with that?”
“She merely dealt with crows who came here with impure motives. There’s no crime to speak of.”
“Are you planning to claim self-defense?”
I raised my eyebrows, indicating that was exactly my intention.
“I’ve seen a lot in my life, I’m proud to have seen it all. But thanks to you, I end up seeing all sorts of things. It’s been a long time since my head was this cluttered.”
How do you think I feel?
“For now, we need to trace the origins of those mercenaries, so I’ll put your case on hold. But make no mistake. I haven’t yet permitted that child to stay here……”
A foreboding future, being called to the chancellor’s office multiple times, unfolded before me.
“I really can’t figure out what goes through your mind. Needless to say, you should behave yourself for the time being.”
“I’ll take that to heart.”
I nodded reluctantly.
As the conversation ended and the chancellor stood up,
-Creak-
The door to Nana’s room opened once again.
“Goodbye! Grandpa!”
So incredibly polite.
Despite having installed an anti-eavesdropping barrier, she seemed to have noticed the chancellor’s departure as if by magic.
“Ahem!”
The chancellor, about to leave with an awkward cough, paused for a moment, then turned his head to ask Nana.
“Do you like eating delicious food?”
“Yes!”
“Understood……”
With those words, the chancellor left the room.
That evening,
Nana was greeted with a feast like no other in the world.
(E/n I declare nana best daughter)
