The Rise of an Evil Sect Leader

Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Ascending Shadows

The Inner Sect was a tempest of speculation in the aftermath of Lu Heng's execution. Whispers of treachery, stolen treasures, and the decisive justice of the Elders filled every corner. Amid the chaos, Ye Tian remained composed, carefully guiding events to consolidate his growing influence.

Jiang Hao's Tribute

In the quiet of his courtyard, Ye Tian examined the jade slip Jiang Hao had presented as his offering of loyalty. Intricate patterns swirled on its surface, hinting at the profound knowledge it contained.

"This jade slip holds the secrets of the sect's Flame Shadow technique," Jiang Hao explained, his voice low but steady.

Ye Tian's eyes gleamed. The Flame Shadow technique was a mid-level martial art, coveted for its offensive power and defensive versatility. Though not the most advanced, it was still far beyond the reach of most Inner Sect disciples.

"You've chosen well," Ye Tian said, slipping the jade into his robes. "This is a good start. But loyalty isn't proven with a single gesture, Jiang Hao. You'll serve me until I decide otherwise."

Jiang Hao nodded, his gaze resolute. "I understand."

"Good," Ye Tian said, his tone sharp. "I've already taken steps to clear your name. The Elders are satisfied, but the rumors among disciples remain. You'll follow my instructions to silence them."

"What do you need me to do?"

Ye Tian leaned forward, his golden eyes glinting with dangerous intent. "Use your remaining connections to spread the truth about Lu Heng's greed. Frame it as though you were a victim of his ambitions. Make it convincing, but subtle. If anyone doubts, deflect them toward the Elders' decision. Their word is law."

Jiang Hao hesitated for a moment, then bowed. "It will be done."

Zhou Lie's Role

In the days following Lu Heng's downfall, Zhou Lie worked diligently under Ye Tian's instructions, ensuring that the rumors aligned perfectly with Ye Tian's narrative.

As Zhou Lie reported back to Ye Tian, his tone carried a mix of admiration and unease. "Senior Brother Ye, the disciples are starting to believe that you're untouchable. Even Jiang Hao has taken to following your lead. It's impressive."

Ye Tian smirked, his gaze sharp. "Good. Fear and respect are the twin pillars of control. And you, Zhou Lie—are you proving useful enough to remain standing on them?"

Zhou Lie straightened, his smirk subdued. "Always, Senior Brother Ye. I've been gathering whispers from the Inner Sect. If there's a threat or opportunity, I'll find it."

Ye Tian nodded, satisfied. "Continue as you are. The Inner Sect may think themselves untouchable, but they bleed just like the rest. Let me know if anything significant surfaces. I'm counting on your eyes and ears."

A Visitor Brings News

That night, as Ye Tian reviewed his progress with the Flame Shadow technique, a knock at his door interrupted his meditation. A fellow Outer Sect disciple, Shen Ping, entered the room with an air of nervous excitement.

"Senior Brother Ye," Shen Ping began, bowing deeply. "I thought it best to inform you of this immediately."

Ye Tian gestured for him to continue, his expression unreadable.

"The Elders have announced a rare event: the Trial of Legacy. It's an opportunity for disciples to prove themselves and earn resources beyond what's normally available. The top-performing disciples will gain access to an ancient ruin said to hold treasures and techniques from a forgotten era."

Ye Tian's interest piqued. "And when is this trial?"

"In three days," Shen Ping replied. "It will take place in the Crimson Veil Ravine, where the sect's power flows strongest. The Elders believe only the most capable will survive."

"Interesting," Ye Tian said, his gaze sharpening. "And who is eligible to participate?"

Shen Ping hesitated. "It's open to all disciples, Outer and Inner alike. But..."

"But?"

"The Inner Sect disciples have already begun preparing. They see this as their opportunity to suppress us further, especially after the recent events."

Ye Tian smiled faintly. "Let them prepare. They may have the resources, but they lack the cunning."

Shen Ping bowed once more before departing, leaving Ye Tian to his thoughts.

Lan Yue's Absence

As Ye Tian considered the upcoming trial, his thoughts lingered on Lan Yue's absence. Her earlier appearance during the Outer Sect battle had been an anomaly, and her motives remained unclear.

"She's from the Inner Sect," Ye Tian muttered to himself, pacing in his chambers. "Why meddle in the affairs of Outer Sect disciples? What does she gain from this?"

Though the question nagged at him, Ye Tian decided to let the matter rest for now. Lan Yue would resurface when the time was right, and he would be prepared to confront her motives when she did.

A New Path

The Trial of Legacy presented an opportunity unlike any other. For Ye Tian, it wasn't just a chance to gain resources—it was a battlefield where strength, cunning, and influence would be tested. He knew he couldn't rely solely on his current power. His alliances, his strategies, and his ability to manipulate events would determine his success.

"This trial will separate the strong from the weak," Ye Tian murmured. "And I intend to stand at the summit when it's over."

With renewed determination, he began to prepare, knowing that the Crimson Veil Ravine would be both a proving ground and a crucible for his ambitions.
