The Rise of Dragon Son-in-Law

Chapter 12: Chapter 12 The Person with an Annual Salary of Ten Million

Han Min was scolded by Li Shiqi with a few harsh words, leaving her face an ashen blue shade with rage as she cursed loudly.

"You son of a bitch, for the sake of a loser you even dare to scold me, have you forgotten how I helped you back then..."

"Alright, alright, tone it down," Li Shiqi hurried forward to cover Han Min's mouth, lowering his voice, "I was scolding you on purpose. We can talk about anything else after the contract is signed. Keep a hold of Long Chen."

Taken aback by Li Shiqi's words, Han Min finally caught on.

By coincidence, Long Chen's phone rang. It was Li Yuechan calling.

Long Chen answered and heard Li Yuechan's excited voice, "Long Chen, the contract was successfully signed. I won't be coming home. I have to deal with some things at the company first, but I'll reward you tonight when I get back."

"Okay, wife. Congratulations," Long Chen smiled.

"Mhm, you did well this time. I'm busy now."

Li Yuechan hung up.

Long Chen then shared the good news with Li Shiqi.

Li Shiqi was so excited he nearly jumped for joy, and the anxiety that had been suspending his heart finally settled.

Then, looking at Long Chen, Li Shiqi grinned, "You've been a great help to the Li Family this time; you don't have to leave just yet."

"Huh? Dad, that's not what you were saying yesterday. Didn't you also promise a reward of a million?"

Long Chen frowned.

"Staying with the Li Family or taking a million to leave, which do you choose?" Li Shiqi asked.

Long Chen sighed inwardly, knowing that Li Shiqi would renege his promise.

But it didn't matter; a mere million was no longer of any concern to Long Chen.

He knew very well that with his current abilities, he could obtain as much wealth as he wanted in the future.

"Long Chen, I sent a message to my boyfriend; he'll be here soon," Li Yuexin suddenly announced.

"What do you mean? You're getting your boyfriend to beat me up?" Long Chen glanced at Li Yuexin.

"Heh, you used despicable tricks on me. I must repay this debt to you. Just you wait," Li Yuexin sneered.

"Ha, I'm off to take a beauty nap," Han Min pretended to yawn, getting up to leave.

"I'm going to rest too," Li Shiqi stretched lazily, seemingly ignoring Li Yuexin's words completely.

Obviously, Han Min and Li Shiqi were giving silent consent to Li Yuexin's calling someone to deal with Long Chen.

This infuriated Long Chen; he had just helped the Li Family significantly, and yet he was being treated like this.

"You better tell your boyfriend to keep it low-key, or you're going to regret it," Long Chen said coldly.

This kind of coldness was unprecedented and had a powerful, intimidating effect.

Li Yuexin was also startled as it was the first time she'd seen Long Chen this way.

But thinking of her boyfriend Ning Haoran's backing, Li Yuexin became arrogant again, "Keep pretending. Let's see if you can still act so tough later, you pitiful worm."

Long Chen watched Li Yuexin, fighting the urge to give her a beating.

Over this year and more, apart from his mother-in-law Han Min, it was this Li Yuexin who was the most troublesome.

But for the moment, Long Chen refrained from striking her.

Since Li Yuexin thought her boyfriend was invincible, then Long Chen didn't mind meeting this Ning Haoran.

In less than half an hour, Ning Haoran arrived at the Li Family's place, bringing many valuable gifts.

Han Min and Li Shiqi showed up again and warmly received Ning Haoran, constantly smiling.

Especially after seeing the Porsche worth millions parked at the door, Han Min simply wanted to heap all the praise on Ning Haoran.

"Haoran, your name is really well chosen, grand and righteous, vast like the heavens and earth. You're destined to achieve great things," Li Shiqi laughed.

"Uncle, you flatter me too much. I actually don't have big ambitions. To maintain my current annual salary of ten million is enough for me; contentment brings happiness," Ning Haoran responded.

Ning Haoran appeared humble, but in fact, he was showing off and even provocatively glanced at Long Chen.

"Long Chen, look at your brother-in-law, Haoran. He's about your age and already earning tens of millions a year. Now look at yourself, lacking ambition, jobless, living off your family day after day. If this continues, it really makes us worried for Yuechan to be with you," Han Min spoke with gravity.

"What? Brother-in-law is jobless?"

Ning Haoran feigned surprise.

"No damn job," Han Min sighed deeply. "If he had half of your capability, I wouldn't have to worry every day."

"Haoran, why don't you introduce a job to Long Chen? Any job will do," Li Yuexin winked at Ning Haoran.

Ning Haoran immediately understood and said, "Brother-in-law, my company's building is looking for a security guard. The monthly salary is 4,500, with social insurances and housing fund included. Are you interested?"

It was obvious that Ning Haoran was deliberately provoking Long Chen.

Long Chen remained calm and simply stated, "Not interested."

"Long Chen, do you really intend to live your life as a freeloader at home? You're a man, have some self-respect!" Li Yuexin scolded loudly, not giving Long Chen any face.

Frowning, Long Chen couldn't help but retort, "Firstly, I never said I plan to freeload forever. I'll find something to do eventually. Secondly, I just secured a project worth billions for the family. Does that count as freeloading?"

"Nothing but opportunism. What are you pretending for? If Haoran had taken part, he would have secured it as well, and based on his real abilities," Li Yuexin dismissed.

Ning Haoran was taken aback, "The Wanxing Mall project?"

"Right, that one," Li Yuexin confirmed.

Upon hearing this, Ning Haoran's gaze toward Long Chen immediately turned murderous.

His own company had been competing for that project, and he himself was responsible for it.

Before his visit to the Li Family this morning, he learned that the project had been signed away. He had never imagined that Long Chen, the useless son-in-law, had played a key role in clinching it.

"Just how did you manage to resort to opportunism, brother-in-law? For such a big project, it's not something you can win just by scheming, right?" Ning Haoran stared at Long Chen.

"No comment," replied Long Chen, composed.

"What if I insist you tell me?" Ning Haoran locked eyes with Long Chen, his attitude assertive.

"I think you're not qualified," said Long Chen, unruffled.

Ning Haoran's eyes darkened, his fists clenched tight. He hadn't expected Long Chen would dare to speak to him like this.

"Long Chen, how dare you speak to Haoran like that? You were just lucky before, having saved Wang Wanli's life. Otherwise, how could Wang Wanli give the project to our family? Don't act as though you have such great abilities. I'm sick of it. Be more humble. The man sitting before you earns ten million a year, and you, jobless, only get to speak to him thanks to Yuexin's influence. Do you understand?" Han Min ruthlessly berated Long Chen.

Long Chen's eyebrows knit together, his tone serious, "Mother, regardless of how much of Haoran's annual ten million is inflated, even if he earned a billion a year, it would have nothing to do with me."

"That's jealousy I hear, isn't it? But no matter how jealous you get, it's futile, because you'll never earn a salary of ten million in your life," Han Min sneered.

Upon hearing this, Long Chen couldn't help but say, "If I were to keep the Wanxing Mall project to myself, even if I just turned it over to someone else, making ten to twenty million would be easy, right?"

"It's just too bad, the contract is already signed, so your wishful thinking is useless," Han Min chided.

"My point is, one should not only see money in their eyes. It's important to be grateful. People who don't know gratitude are truly nauseating," Long Chen said.

With that, Long Chen got up and walked away.

"Long Chen, let's talk outside," Ning Haoran stood up and followed, a sly smile playing on his lips.
