Chapter 15: CHAPTER 15
Faruq quickly checked the phone's timestamp and reported, "12:35, sir." Sani's face tightened with determination as he processed this information. "It would seem we have more than one rat in our house. Look for it as soon as possible. If we can catch that one, we'll be able to find who the traitor is," he said urgently, aware of the imminent danger.
Meanwhile, the military was advancing towards the location of the terrorist base. Major Abdullahi's gaze was unwavering as he scanned his surroundings. He then signaled for one of his captains to approach, whispering something into his ear. The captain appeared surprised but composed, nodding in response. He activated his walkie-talkie and issued a command, "All vehicles, stop."
Stepping out of his vehicle, the captain moved toward the driver's side, swiftly aiming his rifle at the driver. He ordered, "Put your hands where I can see them!" The driver, taken aback, complied and stepped out of the vehicle. He was immediately thrown to the ground and handcuffed.
"Sir, the suspect has been secured," the captain reported. Major Abdullahi approached the suspect, his expression stern. "Since when have you been informing the enemies about our moves?" he inquired, his eyes fixed on the suspect.
The suspect vehemently denied any wrongdoing, asserting, "I am not a traitor, sir. I cannot do such a thing, sir." Major Abdullahi exchanged a meaningful look with the captain, who proceeded to search the vehicle. He soon exclaimed, "Found it, sir," holding up a burner phone as evidence.
Major Abdullahi nodded with a sense of urgency. "Take him and put him in the back. We have to hurry. Our man inside and that young man will be in trouble if we don't move quickly," he ordered, making his way back to his vehicle. The remaining soldiers wasted no time and quickly resumed their journey towards the enemy's base. The race against time to rescue their comrade and thwart the terrorists intensified.
Sani's restlessness was palpable as he paced back and forth, growing increasingly uncomfortable. It had been three agonizing hours, and there was still no news about the traitor within the base. The military was closing in rapidly, and the tension in the room was suffocating. Just then, his phone rang, and although every fiber of his being wanted to smash it against the wall, he reluctantly answered.
A voice from the other end inquired, "Sani, how is the situation there?" Sani let out a heavy sigh, his voice laden with frustration. He replied, "Things are not going smoothly," the strain in his tone underscoring the gravity of the situation.
The voice on the other end advised, "Leave that base as soon as possible. The military is closing in." Sani's immediate response was one of stubborn resistance. "Leave? I can't just abandon everything I've worked so hard for," he protested, his desperation and determination evident.
The voice, however, remained steadfast in its counsel, admonishing, "This has always been your problem. You're too headstrong. I warned you before, but you refused to listen. Look at the outcome now." There was a touch of anger and mockery in the voice, which did not go unnoticed by Sani, sharpening the tension in the air.
"Are you mocking me? Because of my failure, Samuel?" Sani's voice took on a threatening edge. Samuel, on the other end, replied cryptically, "That is left for you to decide. I have received orders from above. It's up to you whether you choose to obey or not. Just make sure your mouth remain shut Goodbye for now." With that, he abruptly ended the call, leaving Sani to grapple with a decision that could have dire consequences.
