The Strongest Artist in Naruto

Chapter 9: Chapter 9: The Retreat of the Grass Ninja

On the battlefield, Deidara faced off against a group of Grass Village shinobi. Standing on the sidelines, Kurosuki Raiga showed no intention of intervening. For him, the ideal outcome would be mutual destruction. If not, he could still observe their abilities without risking himself. No need to jump in prematurely.

"Be careful, everyone! Those white things he makes will explode!" shouted Kawamura Dou, a jōnin of the Grass Village. Earlier, their squad had taken minor injuries from the explosion of a clay centipede. Fortunately, they weren't seriously hurt, and they had a top-notch medical pack in Karin—just one bite from her could heal them. There was nothing to fear.

"But as long as we don't let his white toys get close, they're harmless, right?" A hot-tempered jōnin leaped forward, confident he had figured out Deidara's technique. Teaching a brat like this a lesson shouldn't be an issue.

"Earth Release: Rock Pillar Spears!" Another Grass ninja formed hand seals, and the ground beneath Deidara suddenly erupted with sharp spikes, forcing him to leap away.

"Nice one, Naoto! Keep it up! I've driven him off that spot—no more clay centipedes lurking underground!" The Earth Release ninja shouted encouragement.

"Not bad teamwork," Deidara quipped.

"C1: Serpent!" From the mouths in his palms, two massive clay snakes emerged, slithering toward the charging Grass jōnin, Naoto.

"Not so fast! Earth Release: Rock Pillar Prison!"

"Water Release: Water Whip!"

The coordinated response was swift. On the left, the clay serpent was immobilized by rising stone pillars. On the right, the other serpent was ensnared by a water whip, preventing it from advancing further.

"Die!" Naoto was already upon Deidara, kunai in hand, forcing him to backflip out of range.

"Gotcha now!" A voice came from the shadows behind Deidara. The real trap wasn't Naoto's attack but a stealthy Earth clone set up earlier. The clone dissolved as a new attacker appeared, preparing his finishing move.

The Grass ninja quickly formed hand seals, cheeks puffing out as he tilted his head back, gathering power for the technique.

"Wind Release: Vacuum Wave!"

A blade of wind, nearly invisible but clearly discernible by its sharp contours, sliced toward Deidara, cutting him clean in half at the waist.

"Did we get him?" The Grass ninja erupted in cheers.

"In Naruto, whenever you ask that, the answer is always no," Deidara mocked, stepping out from the distance alongside Sasori. The 'killed' Deidara was merely a clay clone, a classic ninja feint.

"Ninja battles are always full of twists and turns, yeah!"

"Deidara, you're too slow. Let me handle this," Sasori said in a raspy, low voice as the tail of his puppet, Hiruko, shot forward. The tail's sharp tip glistened with purplish-black poison.

"No way, Sasori-senpai! These are my targets!" Deidara stepped forward decisively. "I need the experience, after all!"

"Get on with it. I hate waiting," Sasori grumbled, retracting Hiruko's tail and remaining still.

"Time to get serious, yeah!"

"C2: – Wyvern!"

"C2: – Pteranodon!"

"C2: – Raptor!"

This time, Deidara used his real mouth, quickly crafting a swarm of explosive clay creatures. The wyvern and pteranodon were adaptations of his C2 dragon technique, while the raptor was a personal creation based on the same design principles.

Kurosuki Raiga: Shock +300

Kawamura Dou: Shock +200

Baomura Mitsutani: Shock +200

Tōbō Naoto: Shock +...

"No way… This can't be real!" The Grass shinobi trembled. If earlier they had confidence in their numerical advantage, that confidence was now gone. The sky was filled with shadowy wyverns, while the ground teemed with clay raptors, all ready to detonate with devastating force. There was no way to stop this.

"Run!" one terrified Grass ninja screamed, bolting away.

"Damn it! Earth Release: Earth-Style Wall!"

"Water Release: Water Formation Wall!"

Some tried to resist, erecting defenses against the incoming clay army. But the overwhelming numbers rendered their efforts futile.

"Boom!" Deidara exclaimed as he activated his creations, leaving devastation in his wake. The remnants of the Grass ninja became nothing more than points on his system tally.

"Ah! Bring that girl here and let me bite her! I'm injured!" One Grass ninja, his leg blown off, cried out in desperation. But the others were too busy fleeing to care about him.

"Two managed to escape? Oh well, doesn't matter." Deidara shrugged. This Grass ninja squad was decent, but he had held back to avoid harming Karin. Otherwise, one large clay bomb could have wiped them all out in an instant.

Meanwhile, Karin—still just a child of seven or eight—was frozen in terror. Her face was smeared with dirt and wood splinters, and fresh bite marks covered her thin arms from where the Grass ninja had used her. Tears filled her frightened eyes.

"Please don't kill me! I'm useful! I can heal people—just bite me and you'll heal! I swear!" Karin stammered, raising her scarred hands, trembling with fear and desperation. Her pitiful state tugged at Deidara's heartstrings.

"Am I really that scary? I just saved you, yeah," Deidara muttered, scratching his head. He grabbed Karin by the arm and pulled her to her feet.

"Hey, Sasori-senpai! Watch this kid for me, will you? I'd hate to accidentally blow her up."

"I'm not a babysitter!" Sasori growled irritably.

"Oh, come on, Sasori-senpai! She's so pitiful—have a heart! I know you're a softie deep down," Deidara teased.

"Me? Soft?" Sasori chuckled darkly. Deidara ignored the menace in his laugh. He knew Sasori wouldn't harm Karin—after all, Sasori's own tragic past made him incapable of entirely ignoring a child in need.

Deidara turned his attention to Kurosuki Raiga, who had been watching the battle from afar.

"Hey, green-haired, baggy-eyed, big-mouthed rogue Mist ninja! Surrender now and hand over your swords!"

"Hahaha!" Raiga threw his head back, laughing maniacally. "Surrender? You're the one who should give up! I've already figured out your tricks!"

He wiped a tear from his eye, gripping his twin Lightning Blades in a cross formation.

"These blades of mine are the perfect counter to your bombs!"
