The Strongest Brain in the Interstellar

Chapter 66 - Thoughtful

Before the school year began, Jiang Hui had contacted a teacher in the academic affairs office to explain her situation. Unfortunately, she couldn’t transfer majors directly, as the teacher sympathized with her but explained that she lacked the qualifications. However, the teacher kindly informed her that they had reported her situation and would check with the school for any possibilities.

A few days later, Jiang Hui received a communication from the academic affairs office, stating that the school was aware of her situation and had arranged a meeting with the principal.

This left Jiang Hui a bit stunned. She was just an ordinary student seeking to consult the school about the possibility of transferring out of a military major, having missed the transfer opportunity. She knew that she was occupying a valuable spot in the combat unit program.

However, the school’s response and the arranged meeting with the principal indicated that there was room for discussion. Jiang Hui held onto a faint hope.

When she arrived at the academic affairs office, the teacher led her to the principal’s office to meet him, but the outcome wasn’t what Jiang Hui had hoped for.

The principal was a young man with an elegant demeanor, surnamed Xia. He had features typical of the Chinese ethnicity, but there seemed to be a blend of other ancestries, resulting in a strikingly warm presence.

It appeared that he had been waiting for her. Jiang Hui realized that she had been brought to the principal on her very first day; though there was a reason behind it, the feeling was indeed quite peculiar.

If all goes well, this was probably her first and only time meeting the principal alone at this school.

Jiang Hui wasn’t sure how to properly greet the principal in the interstellar context, but a polite hello seemed safe.

“Student Jiang, you’re here… Please take a seat, no need to be too formal.” Fortunately, the principal didn’t seem very serious; his tone and demeanor were friendly and approachable.

“Teacher Duan has already explained your situation to me, and I’m very sorry to hear about your circumstances,” Principal Xia said to the girl in front of him.

Jiang Hui remembered that the teacher who had received her was indeed named Duan.

“The school and our teachers understand your request, but—”

Hearing that word “but,” Jiang Hui felt her heart sink. The implication was clear: a rejection was coming.

But she couldn’t understand why the school would refuse her. Did they not think she was wasting a valuable spot in the combat unit program? Even if she stubbornly studied in this major for a year, she would ultimately be wasting that opportunity, and Jiang Hui was well aware of this.

“Don’t you think about this path, Student Jiang?” the older man asked softly, his hands clasped, though his gestures were cautious, likely out of concern for her feelings.

Her previous self had studied military arts at the junior academy, but she had sensed that this field wasn’t suitable for her. She had hoped to reassess her options after her second awakening, but that hadn’t gone as planned.

Now, Jiang Hui just wanted to distance herself and live a peaceful life by choosing an ordinary major. She hadn’t expected even that to be so difficult.

“As Teacher Duan mentioned earlier, the application channel for transferring majors has been closed. Unless there are exceptional circumstances, it cannot be reopened. If you cannot transfer in the system, you won’t be able to participate in various exams and courses, nor accumulate credits. Therefore, we recommend that you stay in the combat unit program for a year.”

“I’ve reviewed your file. You’ve only had your second awakening, yet your psychic level has already been assessed as A-grade. Both your parents are excellent soldiers in the Empire, so I believe you might consider trying a high-demand psychic major first.”

“If, after a year, you really can’t adapt, you can still transfer when the application channel opens next year. At that time, we will calculate the credits you earned in the combat unit program, and you will still be able to graduate on time.”

His words were gentle and lacked any condescension; instead, they seemed like sincere advice. Although he mentioned her parents, she wasn’t the original Jiang Hui and didn’t find it sensitive. This level of inquiry and suggestion was acceptable to her.

However, this outcome didn’t really make Jiang Hui happy. It meant that, regardless of the circumstances, she had to stay in the combat unit program for a year, unless she applied for a leave of absence now and transferred next year.

So, what had she been hoping for? Nothing had changed. But after this conversation, Jiang Hui finally accepted her situation.

Well, rules were rules. It was normal for the interstellar community to be more transparent than on Blue Star.

Fine, if it had to be the combat unit, then so be it. It seemed destined for her to take this path.

Just as Jiang Hui settled on her thoughts, Principal Xia, seeing her silence, assumed she was hesitating, and added, “If you’re worried about not having a solid foundation and may struggle at first, the school has considered this as well. We will inform your teachers and reduce your workload by half until you can adapt.”

“However, if after a year you wish to continue studying in the combat unit program, you must meet the requirements of that program; the reduced standards will no longer apply,” the principal said to Jiang Hui.

This was indeed a possibility. The school allowed Jiang Hui to have reduced requirements because she truly lacked a foundation and had missed the transfer opportunity due to uncontrollable circumstances. However, she couldn’t be certain she would be able to pursue such a major.

If she changed her mind later and chose to study in the combat unit, that was her right, given that she was granted a military quota. But continuing to reduce her requirements would be unfair to other students.

These points needed to be clearly communicated to Jiang Hui in advance to avoid major issues later on.

Having accepted the reality that she must temporarily study in the combat unit, Jiang Hui understood and appreciated the school’s and principal’s considerate arrangements—it was almost excessive. She had nothing to be dissatisfied about.

With nothing more to discuss, Jiang Hui felt it was time to conclude the meeting. She didn’t want to delay further, or she might not even get to choose her dormitory. As she was about to leave, the principal called her back and retrieved a small square metal box from a cabinet. Jiang Hui noticed her name was seemingly marked on the side of the box.

Without any suspense, Principal Xia handed the box to Jiang Hui.

Upon receiving it, she found it surprisingly light, lacking the typical weight of metal. This is—
