The Strongest Brain in the Interstellar

Chapter 73 - Meet and Greet

Of course, while most of the innocent young boys and girls felt sympathy for those few unfamiliar classmates, some had different thoughts.

For those who held themselves to high standards, the students who arrived late and were expelled from the class naturally got what they deserved.

The differences between people often lie in minor details, but character can differ by more than just a little. Those students seemed to have only made a trivial mistake; however, in reality, this went beyond the mistake itself and reflected a certain untrustworthy quality inherent in their character.

This part of the students genuinely agreed with the class instructor’s actions. They believed that it was better to prevent problems before they arose than to fix them afterward, and that those students should indeed pay the price.

While there were some slightly extreme viewpoints, there were also completely neutral individuals. They had no particular thoughts; they were simply amazed by the instructor’s actions.

In this small classroom, there were all sorts of people, each with their own thoughts.

Captain Stark observed the students’ reactions and gained a general understanding of their personalities. After just one night, he had already grasped the temperaments of some of the students, proving that he was indeed more experienced.

“Very well, since you all understand this, I have something else to discuss with you.”

“I know that most of you did not come here with a strong sense of purpose, and some of you may not even consider this your final destination… But regardless of your intentions, as long as you are studying under me, you must adhere to my rules. If you cannot accept this, then you will likely have the same fate as the students who left before.”

This was clearly directed at her, and Jiang Hui immediately felt like she had been singled out.

“But if you are willing to follow my rules, I will do my utmost to impart knowledge to you and provide you with opportunities for advancement. Does anyone have any questions? You can ask them now; this is your only chance to speak openly to me. Of course, if you choose not to have me as your class instructor, then that’s a different matter.” He ended with a slight smile, as if he found his last comment somewhat humorous.

This joke was so cold that no one laughed; it wasn’t funny at all. Who would try so hard to scare students away from class like this?

The atmosphere was tense, reflecting the hesitation of everyone present.

“Now we can start the meet-and-greet. Tonight, you can disregard the rules—eat, drink, and have fun. After tonight, everything will have to go according to my way, so please enjoy yourselves.”

Then, unexpectedly, the desks sprang open, revealing large bags of food and drinks. Colorful ribbons shot out from somewhere above, accompanied by a rousing military march that left the previously anxious students completely stunned, unable to react.

“Why are you just standing there? Eat! Tomorrow, if you want to eat, you won’t have anything. Eat what you need to eat, play when you can, but during training, I’ll push you to your limits. Stop dawdling, enjoy your food, and eat everything; otherwise, don’t even think about leaving.” With that, he stepped off the platform and tossed a handful of snack bags that had been flung all over the floor into the hands of a dazed student.

Somehow, the instructor pressed something on the light screen, and the music became even more intense, almost shaking the ceiling.

Jiang Hui was naturally one of the stunned ones.

What was going on?

Wasn’t there supposed to be a lecture? Where was the motivational speech for beginners? The intimidation only got halfway through, and now it was turning into a party?

Jiang Hui finally remembered that today was just a meet-and-greet for classmates, equivalent to a high school orientation the day before the start of school.

That said, turning a meet-and-greet into this, with the latecomers being expelled from the class, was indeed a good lesson for the students. However, the abruptness of the transition felt very disjointed and strangely unsettling.

Yet, some bold students actually began to open the food packages, and seeing that Stark didn’t stop them, they gradually loosened up. The classroom gradually started to fill with a joyful atmosphere.

And once one person started, more followed. Initially, people cautiously sat at the tables, unwrapping chip bags and nibbling on them like squirrels. Soon, people began to engage in quiet conversations, and before long, small groups of two or three became groups of five or six… Sitting and talking eventually turned into standing in circles, with even some casual shoulder-patting happening.

Then the scene became chaotic; if there hadn’t been any alcohol, Jiang Hui suspected these people would have gotten drunk and started a spontaneous disco.

Was this the legendary social anxiety? She didn’t understand.

Jiang Hui tore open a bag of chips, picked one out, and began to crunch on it. To be honest, the chips in the galaxy were quite flavorful.

Upon realizing that the instructor really seemed to be planning a pure meet-and-greet, everyone unconsciously opened up. The atmosphere in the classroom was excellent, even though everyone had been strangers before. Perhaps it was the shared experience from earlier that made them feel somewhat close to each other, like friends who had gone through hardships together, instantly bridging the distance.

Some people approached Jiang Hui to chat. However, she wasn’t sure if it was because her knowledge of interstellar travel was relatively limited and she didn’t seem like someone impressive. Some exchanged names and talked to her briefly before moving on, maintaining a certain distance.

She glanced at Clarens, who was seated diagonally ahead of her. It seemed like he was experiencing something similar. However, from his expression, he appeared to be the one rejecting others, as no one could stay near him for more than a minute.

She quietly considered whether she should join the fun and integrate into the class circle. After all, she had to spend a year in this class; she couldn’t just go on being timid.

Then a small incident interrupted her thoughts.

Jiang Hui suddenly felt someone watching her from behind. After a moment, she instinctively turned around and locked eyes with the person. She recognized him; he was one of the two pure Chinese descendants in the class, named Chen Wenbai.

He really looked quite weak and timid. Although he was tall, he had a slender build and a pale complexion. His voice was soft, and he seemed rather shy.

When he noticed Jiang Hui looking at him, he appeared a bit embarrassed. She thought he wanted to get to know her, but he pointed toward the hallway outside instead. Jiang Hui felt confused. What was out there?

He pointed outside a couple more times, and Jiang Hui became even more puzzled. Was there something that couldn’t be said directly?

Just before Jiang Hui couldn’t help but speak up, this classmate, whose expression and actions exuded shyness, seemed to decide to give up on sign language and moved closer to her.

“Jiang, the instructor is looking for you outside and wants you to go see him.”

Jiang Hui: ?!
