The Strongest Eriri in History

Chapter 289: Certain Death 2/2

In the following days, Eriri and her group, together with the members of the Blue Rose adventurer team, explored the most entertaining spots in the royal capital.

By the afternoon, Eriri returned to Arche's residence in the Imperial Capital with her companions. However, Evileye stayed behind in the royal capital with the Blue Rose team, as Eriri planned to bring her along when leaving the Overlord world.

After Eriri's departure, Lakyus immediately gathered Gagaran and the others at their Blue Rose base to inquire about the events that had occurred before her arrival at the inn. The revelations, of course, left her utterly astonished.

"Milim, where did you wander off to yesterday?" Eriri asked as she lounged on a couch, holding Ophis in her arms, now that everyone had returned to Arche's home.

Since Milim's return, she hadn't shown any desire to venture out again.

"I went to a place with a lot of dragons, da! But they were all too weak, da! Not a single one could put up a fight. Later, I climbed a really tall mountain and met a dragon called the Prismatic Dragon Lord, da! He actually asked me to bear his children, so I punched him to death, da! Not long after, this world was destroyed by you, da!"

With a string of cheerful "da" sounds, Milim recounted her day's escapades in a single, straightforward sentence. (similar to "desu")

"Do you still feel like heading out on your own to explore?"

Milim shook her head vigorously. "No, da! I want to stay with you all, da!"

During her one-day excursion, she hadn't eaten anything. While she wasn't hungry, she deeply missed the delicious food made by Aoi Kujo.

Even if Eriri hadn't blown up the planet, Milim had already planned to return. Roaming alone was far less enjoyable than staying by Eriri's side. With food available at any moment, what could be better?

Milim took a bite of the pudding in her hand, the delicious taste making her sway side-to-side on the seat in delight.

"So good, da!"

The next day, Eriri and her companions, now in their third day in the Overlord world, encountered the returning Black Scripture on their way to sightsee in the Slane Theocracy.

At the forefront of the group was a petite figure who appeared no older than fifteen, a stunningly beautiful girl. This was Certain Death, the Black Scripture's Extra Seat member.

Although Certain Death's age exceeded a century, as a half-elf born of forest elves and humans, her lifespan made her relatively young. Her hair was two-toned, with black on the left and white on the right, and her heterochromatic eyes mirrored these colors—her left eye was white while the right was black, opposite her hair.

The Black Scripture members were in a hurry to report the results of their investigation and didn't pay much attention to Eriri's group, aside from marveling at Eriri's beauty. Even Certain Death couldn't resist glancing at Eriri several times.

She thought her actions were subtle, unaware that every little movement of hers had been caught by Eriri.

The Slane Theocracy bordered the Katze Plains, its proximity to the ruins of Nazarick no greater than that of the Empire.

The Theocracy was the first human nation in the world, established 600 years ago by the Six Great Gods. Unlike the Kingdom, Empire, or Holy Kingdom, the Theocracy was not a monarchy. Its highest governing body was the College of Cardinals, comprised of twelve members.

Compared to its human counterparts, the Theocracy was far superior in strength. Dedicated to ensuring humanity's survival and prosperity against powerful races, it boasted some of the continent's most formidable forces.

Every member of the Black Scripture had reached the Heroic Realm, not to mention Certain Death, an unparalleled exception. Beyond the Scripture, the Theocracy had numerous other heroes who had reached the Heroic Realm, along with the equipment left by the Six Great Gods.

In the world of Overlord, equipment could significantly amplify an individual's strength.

The Theocracy was also home to Godkins, descendants of the Five Great Gods (excluding the God of Death) who had interbred with humans. Some of their offspring displayed ancestral traits, inheriting portions of their forebears' power and earning the title of Godkins.

Certain Death was one such rare Godkin, an anomaly among hybrids.

However, the Theocracy went to great lengths to conceal the existence of Godkins because True Dragon Lords harbored deep resentment toward the bloodline of "players." Upon discovery, they would stop at nothing to eliminate such individuals, even risking an assault on the Theocracy.

Though Certain Death, equipped with relics from the Six Great Gods, was no weaker than a True Dragon Lord, the collateral damage from such a clash could spell disaster for the Theocracy.

Perhaps due to its player origins, the Theocracy's development leaned toward modernization, yet it still retained distinct elements of an otherworldly fantasy realm.

After a few hours of exploring the Theocracy, Eriri parted from Arche and the others to venture alone into the nation's Sacred Domain.

There, she once again encountered Certain Death after several hours.

At that moment, Certain Death was leaning nonchalantly against a wall, idly solving a Rubik's Cube. Beside her, a scythe resembling a crucifix rested against the stone.

Eriri stood beside Certain Death, the two separated by no more than a meter, yet Certain Death failed to realize that a living, breathing person was standing right next to her.

Eriri hadn't cloaked herself or hidden her presence entirely; she had merely tweaked Certain Death's sensory perception slightly, creating a state where she would only be visible if she wished to be.

At under 150 centimeters tall, Certain Death's diminutive frame barely reached Eriri's shoulder. Her body was that of a child, with small gloved hands slowly turning the sides of a Rubik's Cube. Though solving a Rubik's Cube was simply a matter of recognizing patterns, Certain Death could only manage to complete two sides at best—a challenging feat for her.

A playful smile curled on Eriri's lips. Leaning close to Certain Death's ear, she whispered, "So, is the Rubik's Cube fun?"

The sudden appearance of an unfamiliar voice caused Certain Death's expression to change instantly. Her hands froze mid-turn, the Rubik's Cube halted.

"Who's there?" Certain Death immediately snatched up the massive scythe leaning against the wall, retreating several steps in one swift motion, her eyes filled with wariness as she scanned her surroundings.

When her gaze fell upon Eriri standing casually near the spot where she herself had been moments ago, her expression flickered. Clearly, she recognized Eriri from their encounter a few hours prior.

"This is our second meeting, isn't it, Certain Death?" Eriri said with a relaxed smile.

As she spoke, she casually walked toward Certain Death, unconcerned by the fact that the enormous scythe in Certain Death's hands was twice her size.

"Who are you? Why are you here? This isn't a place where just anyone can wander in. And... how do you know my name?" Certain Death frowned slightly.

Her existence as an extra seat of the Black Scripture was a closely guarded secret. Few outside the Holy Domain even knew of her.

To her surprise, her initial impression of Eriri was a positive one. Certain Death found herself not wanting to cross blades with her unless absolutely necessary.

"No need to be so tense. If I wanted to deal with you, you wouldn't even have the chance to speak," Eriri replied with a calm voice.

The impact of those words made Certain Death's breath hitch, her heartbeat momentarily faltering.

Before she could react, Eriri was suddenly standing right beside her, and the whispered words had come directly into her ear.

For someone who prided herself on being one of humanity's strongest warriors, the realization that she hadn't even noticed Eriri move sent her into a panic.

Certain Death had been watching Eriri intently, yet she couldn't comprehend how she had vanished and reappeared in an instant.

This wasn't like witnessing teleportation, where one sees someone disappear outright. Instead, it was as if Eriri had never moved at all, and Certain Death's perception had inexplicably lagged behind. The inexplicable nature of it left her unsettled.

Abandoning all attempts at diplomacy, Certain Death swung her scythe with full force toward Eriri.

The massive weapon moved with unnatural speed in her hands, appearing weightless as it carved a path through the air and struck Eriri directly.

Yet the strike had no effect. Eriri hadn't activated any defensive measures or dodged; she simply allowed the scythe to land against her.

The result was shocking. Not only was Eriri completely unharmed, but even her clothes remained unscathed, devoid of so much as a scratch.

Certain Death's jaw tightened. She hadn't used her full power, but her strike was still more than enough to destroy any ordinary foe. Even a True Dragon King, known for their resilience, would have been grievously wounded if left undefended.

"Can't we just talk things out? I'm here for a chat, not a fight," Eriri said with an amused shake of her head. She patted the spot on her clothing where the scythe had landed, as if brushing off non-existent dust, then began to stroll toward Certain Death leisurely.

"What's happening? Why can't I feel my body?" Certain Death's face turned pale. She suddenly realized she had lost all control over her limbs and torso without even noticing when or how it had happened.

For someone who usually reveled in the thrill of facing a worthy opponent, the overwhelming disparity in power between herself and Eriri left Certain Death trembling with fear rather than excitement.
