The Substitute Bride and the CEO's Forbidden Passion

Chapter 9: Protecting Your Wife: Claire's Battle to Defend Her Trust and Fight Back

Claire Wentworth closed her mouth and silently looked at Alexandre Montfort.

His thin lips were slightly pursed, and his face showed a hint of displeasure.

Claire's heart skipped a beat.

She had been so focused on not wanting to be wronged again that she had overlooked the fact that Sophie Chevalier was, after all, Alexandre Montfort's sister, whether a cousin or otherwise.

Obviously, they had known each other for much longer than she and Alexandre Montfort.

And her relationship with Alexandre Montfort was merely one of cooperation!

Indeed, impulse was the devil!

Claire Wentworth was thinking rapidly about how to make Alexandre Montfort believe that she had no ill intentions. But no matter how she thought about it, her actions just now made it difficult to explain away.

Perhaps in the next second, Alexandre Montfort would ask her to leave.

Alas! She had originally intended to find herself a backer, but instead of finding one, she had, due to a moment of impulse, made another enemy for herself!

Claire Wentworth thought with a feeling of helplessness.

"Strictly speaking, the one who should leave should be you."

Claire Wentworth nodded silently. With a sense of regret, she shifted her steps slightly and was about to stand up...

"Third brother?"

Sophie Chevalier's voice filled with disbelief sounded beside her.

Claire Wentworth turned her head in surprise.

Then she saw Alexandre Montfort and Sophie Chevalier in a confrontational stance.

"I'm married, and she is my wife. We are the master and mistress of this family! And you're just a guest!"

Wife?

Claire Wentworth was stunned. He was actually standing on her side?

And what was this sudden flutter in her heart?

In both her past and present lives, she had never been protected by anyone. Was she really so easily moved?

While she was in a daze, Sophie Chevalier's eyes widened.

The word "guest" stabbed deeply into her heart. She had come to the Montfort family at the age of twelve and had long regarded herself as a member of the family. But now, Alexandre Montfort said she was just a guest?

"Th - third brother? You're going to... drive me away?"

"If you can't get along with her, then the one who has to leave will be you!" Alexandre Montfort replied without hesitation.

Sophie Chevalier was so angry that her face turned pale.

"So, you don't care about the fact that she pushed me down the stairs, do you? Even if you don't care about whether I live or die, don't you care if she's a vicious woman?"

Alexandre Montfort's voice was cold and emotionless as he said two words:

"Where's the evidence?"

"The evidence is the video on my phone of her fooling around with Lucas Moreau! She was afraid that I would show this video to you, Third brother. So she tried to grab my phone. When I refused, she pushed me down the stairs."

As Sophie Chevalier spoke, she quickly rummaged through the videos on her phone while desperately smearing Claire Wentworth.

"Third brother, let me tell you, I've already figured out this woman's background. She has a marriage contract with Lucas Moreau. Even though she knows Lucas Moreau doesn't like her, she still clings to him."

"She's been chasing after him since kindergarten, publicly proclaiming that Lucas Moreau is her fiancé everywhere. He beat and scolded her to get rid of her, but she just wouldn't let go. Don't you think she's despicable?"

"Three days ago, she even got Lucas Moreau drunk, trying to force the situation."

With each word she said, Alexandre Montfort's face grew colder and colder...

The colder his face became, the more excited Sophie Chevalier got.

Claire Wentworth, you're doomed.

In contrast to her excitement, Claire Wentworth kept her eyes fixed on Alexandre Montfort.

Only at this moment did she truly feel that this man was really good. He was good - looking, capable, and had a strong sense of contract.

In short, except for his poor health, he was perfect in every way!

And she also had to show her sense of contract, letting him know that she wouldn't bring shame to him, and clearing herself of all those unfounded accusations.

Letting him know that she, as a partner, was worthy of his trust!

When Sophie Chevalier finally stopped speaking, Claire Wentworth had also completed her mental preparation.

Reluctantly, she shifted her gaze from Alexandre Montfort and looked at Sophie Chevalier.

"Are you stupid?"

"What?" Sophie Chevalier was taken aback.

Claire Wentworth leaned back slightly, her eyes full of mockery.

"Since you have the video, just show it. What's the point of saying so much nonsense? You don't really think that you can find out things that Young Master Montfort can't, do you?"

"I've had a marriage contract with Lucas Moreau since we were kids. Just ask anyone in Suncrest City, and they'll know. You're making such a big deal out of it as if it's some big secret. What are you trying to do?"

Sophie Chevalier was so angry that she even stopped rummaging through her phone.

"Claire Wentworth, you still dare to be so arrogant at this time?"

"Why not?" Claire Wentworth retorted.

"Because..." As she spoke, Sophie Chevalier finally finished searching through her phone. "Where's the video? Strange... Where's my video? It was there just now."

Sophie Chevalier was in a panic, frantically swiping through her phone, but there was nothing. It was nowhere to be found, not in any folder.

That video seemed to have disappeared into thin air.

"It's you, Claire Wentworth. It was you, wasn't it?"

Claire Wentworth sneered.

"Yeah. It was me. I saw the video on your phone, and I was afraid you'd show it, so I pushed you down the stairs."

"Then, while you were unconscious, I managed to steal your phone right under the noses of so many people in the villa and all those doctors and nurses in the hospital, and deleted the video."

"Then, at the risk of being discovered, I thoughtfully put the phone back in your bag."

"Tell me, how am I so capable?"

The irony was so obvious that anyone could tell.

But Sophie Chevalier seemed not to notice at all. She still glared at Claire with wide eyes.

"I knew it was you! Third brother, you heard it too. I originally had the video. She deleted it. So the thing about her fooling around with someone is definitely true."

Claire Wentworth: "?"

Was this Miss Chevalier an idiot?

"Miss Chevalier, the young mistress was with Jocelyn the whole afternoon. How could she have deleted the video on your phone?" Butler Wilson looked at Sophie Chevalier with a pained expression.

Sophie Chevalier angrily said, "How do you know she was definitely with Jocelyn? Maybe she bribed Jocelyn."

This made Jocelyn unhappy. "Miss Chevalier, are you questioning my professional integrity?"

"Who knows? After all, no one can prove that she was with you this afternoon, right?"

"You..." Jocelyn was furious. She turned to look at Alexandre Montfort. "Master, I promise..."

"Promises are surely useless." Claire Wentworth interrupted.

Jocelyn looked at her in shock, not understanding why the young mistress was suddenly siding with Miss Chevalier.

"What matters is evidence."

As Claire Wentworth spoke, she took out her new phone, retrieved a set of photos from it, and placed the phone on the table.
