Chapter 72: Chase Through the Streets

Chaos in the Tavern

As the Yellow Tiger Gang's forces fell one by one under the relentless attacks of Mu Feng and his companions, Wu Bao's fury reached a boiling point. His strikes grew more savage, and the wooden floor of the tavern was splintering under the force of the combatants' moves. Mu Feng's quick thinking allowed his injured allies to escape, but the danger was far from over.

Fleeing the Scene

Mu Feng leapt from the tavern's window, his body rolling upon landing to absorb the impact. Sprinting into the busy streets of An Nan City, he maneuvered through the dense crowd, leaving a trail of startled vendors and toppled goods in his wake.

"Stop that boy!" Wu Bao's furious voice echoed behind him, spurring the gang members to give chase. Their blades gleamed under the flickering lantern light as they barrelled through the streets, scattering bystanders in their pursuit.

A Deadly Pursuit

Mu Feng's mind raced. He dashed into a narrow alley, leaping onto a crate and scaling the wall with a burst of agility. As he landed in an adjacent courtyard, he felt the heat of Wu Bao's presence closing in.

"Damn it! He's relentless!" Mu Feng muttered, wiping a trickle of blood from his lips. Turning, he saw Wu Bao perched atop a rooftop, his figure framed against the moonlit sky like a vengeful specter.

"Running won't save you, boy!" Wu Bao roared, launching himself from the rooftop with his blade raised high.

Mu Feng retaliated, tossing another pair of explosive runes. The blue light of the runes illuminated the alley, and the ensuing explosion forced Wu Bao to retreat momentarily. The debris cloud gave Mu Feng a few precious seconds to escape.

An Unexpected Encounter

Ducking into a side alley, Mu Feng clambered through an open window to catch his breath. The room he entered was dimly lit, with a faint scent of jasmine. His reprieve was cut short by a high-pitched scream.

"Ahh! Intruder!"

Mu Feng spun around to see a young woman clutching a blanket to her chest, her face flushed with shock. Realizing the awkward situation, Mu Feng blurted out an apology, his cheeks reddening.

"Forgive me, miss! Wrong room!" He averted his gaze and leapt back through the window before any further misunderstanding could ensue.

Cornered in a Dead End

After weaving through more alleys and climbing another wall, Mu Feng found himself face-to-face with a tall, unyielding stone wall. He cursed under his breath. "A dead end... of all things."

The heavy thuds of boots signaled the approach of Wu Bao and his men. Their shadows danced ominously on the walls of the alley, and Mu Feng could hear Wu Bao's menacing voice grow nearer.

"You've got nowhere left to run, brat," Wu Bao said as he rounded the corner, his broad figure illuminated by the flickering torchlight held by his men.

Mu Feng's Resolve

Mu Feng turned to face his pursuers, gripping his weapon tightly. Despite his exhaustion and injuries, his eyes burned with an unyielding determination.

"You're right," Mu Feng replied, his voice steady. "Nowhere left to run. But I wasn't planning to run anymore."

Wu Bao chuckled darkly, motioning for his men to advance. "Brave words, but you'll regret them soon enough."

Mu Feng raised his blade, its edge glinting with residual energy. "Then let's see who regrets it first."
