chapter 19
19 – The Evaluation Team from the Main Sect!
Hospital evaluation.
In Korea, it’s an exam that makes hospital staff extremely nervous, conducted by the Evaluation Institute and the Medical Institution Certification Institute!
The evaluation content varies depending on the type of hospital. Hospitals with operating rooms undergo surgery evaluations, where they say, “Hey, let’s see how you perform surgeries.” Hospitals with patient rooms have their hospitals analyzed and dissected one by one, with questions like, “Shall we take a look at your patient room conditions? How about the hygiene?”
I swallowed hard.
Even though I don’t know how the Urkyo main sect evaluates hospitals, it’s definitely not going to be easy!
My stomach starts to ache!
“Um… How does the main sect evaluate clinics?”
“I asked the district priest, and he said they evaluate whether the treatment is good and if they trust Urkyo!”
Other than the addition of religious content, it’s similar to hospital evaluations.
I remember being stressed by hospital evaluations when I was in Korea.
The hospital I was in prepared for the evaluation two months in advance, and those two months of preparation were hell. I went to work, prepared expected answers for the questions the evaluation team might ask, and restocked hospital supplies.
It was already busy enough with work, and now I had to prepare for the evaluation.
I felt the urge to quit my job!
While enduring stress-induced abdominal pain, I received a letter from Miss Catherine.
“Ugh! Let me read the letter first.”
“Here.”
The letter, written on luxurious white paper, summarized with the words, “I’m going in a week. Be well-prepared.”
“A week from now!?”
Time is running out.
Kim Cheol-su’s free clinic is in an emergency!
“Let’s start with cleaning, at least!”
We can’t create any opportunities for suspicion!
* * * *
Kim Cheol-su’s treatment team’s “Grand Preparation for Evaluation” has begun.
Emma and the maids from Yeongju Castle supported us in cleaning the clinic vigorously.
I worked hard to train the staff.
“Even if the evaluation team asks something you don’t know, answer confidently. If you answer convincingly, you won’t lose points!”
Unethical method 1.
Even if a question you don’t know comes up, you can pass if you answer vaguely and convincingly, with the evaluation team saying, “It’s not the correct answer, but it’s not wrong either!”
“Ugh… What should I do if I receive a bad evaluation? If the clinic fails… Ah, I can return to the temple.”
Mr. Malboi’s face turned pale with anxiety.
I felt happy at the thought of returning to the temple!
“Malboi brothers, are you planning to betray me!?”
“!? N-No, of course not.”
“Then please prepare properly.”
“Ah, I see… Alright…”
Mr. Malboi’s expression turned solemn again, silently agreeing.
How could he betray me after all I’ve done for him!
On one hand, I carved a plaque that read “Praise the Lord Ur~” and hung it on the clinic’s main gate.
Since Malboi seemed to believe in the Ur religion, this should be sufficient, right?
Wiping the sweat off my forehead with a sense of pride, I thought about retiring as a therapist and trying my hand at sculpting.
“Was this made for the evaluation committee?”
While contemplating my future career change, Miss Catherine glanced at my plaque and her eyes sparkled.
“Yes, Miss Catherine.”
“Is it alright? Should I bring a Lord Ur statue as well?”
“Oh, that would be great.”
What wouldn’t I do to receive a good evaluation!
Religious hospitals were common in Korea, so it didn’t seem strange to me.
Severance Hospital, Mary’s Hospital, and so on.
Especially at Mary’s Hospital, they even had statues of Mary.
“Please bring a very large and beautiful one!”
“Large and… beautiful? Um… I’ll try my best.”
The next day, I saw an incredibly huge Lord Ur statue, almost the size of the clinic itself.
A gentle old man statue with a long beard, praying peacefully.
It was different from the image of Lord Ur I had in mind.
I heard from the knights, who grunted while carrying it, that the statue was abandoned in the Marquis’ backyard as it was too large and useless, so they brought it here in a frenzy.
There were other smaller statues, but Miss Catherine specifically found the largest one in the territory.
I could only watch as the giant statue, as tall as a house, was moved next to our clinic.
A colossal statue approaching with a thud.
If that statue falls, our clinic will be destroyed…?
“Hey! Keep the clinic a bit further away from it! If the statue collapses, the clinic will collapse too!”
“Oh… yes.”
The knights agreed anxiously.
* * * *
A week later, the day of reckoning arrived.
Three priests of the Ur religion arrived at the Viscount Roland’s estate.
The sharp-faced priests were dispatched by the main sect, the evaluation committee for Kim Chul-soo Clinic!
As if ready to scrutinize every detail, they greeted Viscount Roland with sharp tongues.
When the evaluation committee comes from the main sect, it’s not just about the clinic.
The entire territory where the clinic is located becomes tense.
The authority of the main sect is very strong!
“Ha ha~ Brothers, you’ve come a long way. Let’s not delay, let’s head to the Lord’s Castle. I’ll treat you to a drink.”
“It’s alright, Brother Roland. We’re here to work. We’ll go straight to the clinic.”
The priests of the evaluation team, who sharply rejected Count Roland’s words.
Count Roland broke out in a cold sweat.
The evaluation team of the main temple are infamous hyenas even within the Ur sect.
Once they catch a mistake, they never let it go.
Although Count Roland is of higher rank than them, he was nervous because of the main temple behind them, and he subtly signaled to Hanjang Emma.
“Let Kim Cheolsu know that the evaluation team has arrived!”
If Kim Cheolsu knew in advance that the evaluation team had arrived, he could prepare!
Emma ran to the clinic like a messenger on a royal decree!
“Ahem, then let’s go this way.”
Count Roland deliberately chose a different route back.
He wanted to give Kim Cheolsu every possible minute to gain an advantage!
But the evaluation team was not so easily swayed.
“From what we have gathered, it seems that this is not the right path.”
“No need to worry, Brother Roland. We will find our way.”
*Ugh…*
Count Roland’s schemes didn’t work on the evaluation team.
Are they truly the hyenas of the Ur sect?
Count Roland felt dizzy.
The head of the evaluation team, Mongus, narrowed his eyes as he looked at Count Roland.
There seems to be something fishy about Count Roland having a colored sect priest in his ranks.
“Did they say Kim Charles? I wonder if you are truly a heretic or not.”
Mongus used to run a hospital as a former healer.
Having experienced numerous treatment methods, he was someone who could judge whether a treatment method was effective for a patient or not.
“Treating patients is a sensitive issue. We cannot be careless!”
With a sense of duty, the evaluation team advanced towards the clinic.
On their way to the clinic, the evaluation team spotted a large main Ur statue.
The grandeur of the large statue symbolizing the dignity of the Ur sect!
The appearance of the well-maintained statue exuded a sense of moisture.
The corners of the evaluation team’s mouths twitched.
“To erect such a grand and majestic main Ur statue, it seems that this Kim Cheolsu is quite faithful unexpectedly?”
“Seeing that it is close to the clinic, it seems likely. Hehe.”
“Ahem! We haven’t seen him treating patients yet. Let’s all be cautious.”
Although there was a smile on Mongus’s lips, as the representative of the evaluation team, he tried to maintain the atmosphere.
Though known as hyenas, fundamentally, they were believers of the Ur sect.
The statue, which seemed to excessively praise the main temple, was somewhat unpleasant.
Of course, faith and healing skills were separate, so the evaluation team priests made an effort to manage their expressions.
“We have been waiting for you.”
The one who welcomed the evaluation team at the clinic was the elite Miss Catherine!
The evaluation team priests sharply observed the team’s appearance. They would carefully dissect and evaluate the clinic!
“Don’t refuse food just because you have no appetite. Eat steadily, okay? Next… Ah, nice to meet you. I’m Kim Cheolsu, the director of Kim Cheolsu’s free clinic and the head of the healing team.”
Kim Chul-soo, who had just finished treating a patient, greeted the evaluation team.
Of course, he was able to greet the evaluation team skillfully because he had been informed in advance by Emma.
“Nice to meet you. I am a graduate of the Bonkyodan and a mongoose, as stated in the letter. We are the evaluation team for the clinic. There’s no need to be too nervous, just let us see the condition of the clinic.”
“I will guide you.”
He didn’t know how much he had cleaned the clinic for this day.
Kim Chul-soo stood up confidently and introduced the clinic to the evaluation team.
The waiting room, the herbal medicine storage room, the equipment cabinet, the examination room, and so on.
The members of the evaluation team looked around the clinic and asked various questions.
How does the clinic operate?
What are the roles of the staff?
“The clinic first receives patients in the waiting room and then treats the more serious ones in the examination room. We want to treat as many people as possible.”
“I assist with administrative tasks and support Director Kim Chul-soo’s treatment. I use divine power and manage supplies.”
“Well, if I receive a bad evaluation… um… I’m also an assistant to the Kim Chul-soo brothers.”
Kim Chul-soo and Catherine gave skillful answers.
Although their words were a bit ambiguous, they managed to get through.
The members of the evaluation team were amazed.
Isn’t this clinic much better than most hospitals?
It’s just a small clinic.
Except for the fact that Uruk hospitals have inpatient rooms, they are similar to temples.
The facilities such as the herbal medicine storage room that Uruk hospitals lack, and the specialized training of the staff, were well-established in Kim Chul-soo’s free clinic.
“It’s a bit different, but can’t we just pass them?”
Mongoose thought positively.
To a medieval person, the clinic, which had a slightly modern concept, seemed very efficient.
But soon, the expressions of the evaluation team hardened.
The patients were crowded in the waiting room, and Kim Chul-soo rushed into the examination room to treat them.
Ziiing.
Wasn’t the divine power that Kim Chul-soo manifested very weak?
The divine power that appeared in Kim Chul-soo’s hand was as small as a firefly.
“To think that a healing priest can only use divine power as weak as a firefly…”
The members of the evaluation team gave a strong negative reaction and deducted a significant number of points.
From Kim Chul-soo’s perspective, what he wrote, “I can use divine power. Don’t suspect me of being a heretic!” had the opposite effect.
“Well, that’s a bit…”
“I don’t think it’s heresy, but I’m skeptical about whether the clinic can be operated.”
“Hmm…”
The evaluation team’s opinion changed drastically!
“It was all good, but… it’s a shame.”
“Well, is there anything else to see? How can you treat patients with such weak divine power?”
If things continue like this, Kim Chul-soo’s free clinic will have to close its doors!
Representative Mongoose, who was falling to the bottom, quietly looked at Kim Chul-soo.
Kim Chul-soo was so focused on treating patients that he hadn’t paid attention to the evaluation team for a while.
The yellow-skinned therapist smiled and treated the patients with care.
“Thank you so much! Mr. Kim Charles is indeed kind.”
“Thanks to the bathing method you told me last time, my skin disease has healed. It was called contact dermatitis, right?”
The patients all praised Kim Chul-soo.
Mongoose, who had been watching closely, spoke up.
“No… Let’s observe a little more.”
Until the end of today’s treatment.
Because the sight of Kim Chul-soo and the patients caught Mongoose’s attention, it was hard to say that “divine power level = healing ability” was accurate.
It was the appearance of proper treatment.
