chapter 21
Twenty-One “Nan Zhu” is Very “Innocent”
“Library”
To call this place a library might not be quite fitting, but to call it a royal chapel would be somewhat extravagant.
The light and elegant walls are adorned with ancient vines, and the massive shelves are arranged in a cross shape at the center of this great hall.
Stepping into the hall, the first thing one sees is the huge paulownia tree pot, said to be a seed planted by the principal in his youth.
And after that, the seed transformed into this massive potted plant, bearing the fruit of wisdom, symbolizing intellect.
Compared to the ancient worship halls, this place seemed a bit more austere, yet it did not lack elegance.
Within this vast library, statues of literati stood tall at each corner.
In more leisurely times, many students considered this the perfect spot to while away the hours.
When Wu Liang and his group entered the library, perhaps because it wasn’t exactly a leisurely time, there were especially few students today.
In the entire first-floor hall, only a handful of people could be seen scattered, sitting at tables, flipping through something.
In the silent space, one could only hear the rustling of pages, along with everyone’s heartbeat and breathing.
“It seems there aren’t many people here today.”
Mouse craned his somewhat sore neck and complained.
But then again, it wasn’t really a leisurely time now, so it was somewhat odd for people to come to the library.
“It’s so big…”
Nanzhu’s eyes widened as he stood still, dumbstruck.
It was almost the size of a gymnasium; indeed, it was quite exaggerated.
Although he had prepared to be surprised before coming here, he was still profoundly shocked when he saw it with his own eyes.
“It really is huge…”
Even Wu Liang felt a bit dreamy upon seeing the scene before him.
He knew from playing video games that this library was incredibly large.
But when viewing it from a god’s perspective in the game, he couldn’t fully grasp this sense of grandeur and vastness.
Only by standing here himself could he clearly feel the terrifying extent of the illustrious academy’s wealth.
“Big brother, don’t you come here often?”
Mouse looked at Wu Liang, somewhat puzzled.
Big brother seemed to like being startled today, first with the gymnasium, then the cafeteria, and now the library.
He wasn’t sure if it was his imagination, but he felt that today’s big brother seemed a bit like a country bumpkin.
“Excuse me, students? Please show your nameplates so I can register you.”
The part-time girl at the front desk approached the trio with a digital pad.
Her gaze lingered a bit longer on the faces of Wu Liang and the male lead, then looked somewhat puzzledly towards Mouse at the side.
“Oh, sure.”
Mouse obediently took out his nameplate and swiped it on the digital pad.
With a beep, Mouse, whose identity had been successfully verified, walked into the hall.
“Eh? Big brother? Why aren’t you two coming in?”
The mouse, having already entered the library’s grand hall, looked back at Wu Liang and Nan Zhu, who were still standing in their original spot, and asked with puzzlement.
“I didn’t bring it.”
“Me neither.”
Wu Liang and Nan Zhu almost spoke in unison.
“If you don’t have a nameplate, you’re not allowed to enter the library just like that.”
The girl smiled at the mouse, who had walked into the hall alone.
Without swiping a card, entry to the library is impossible, so the two students were kindly asked to leave.
“Huh?”
The mouse stared blankly at Wu Liang and Nan Zhu.
For a moment, he even doubted whether the boss had intentionally set him up.
“Well, Mr. Mouse, why don’t you stay here for a while? We’ll go for a stroll and come back for you.”
Nan Zhu smiled awkwardly, not expecting the mouse’s actions to be so swift.
Before he could stop him, the mouse had already swiped his card and gone in.
Once inside, one must spend some time reading before leaving.
Such are the glorious rules of Xing Academy, and there was nothing else he could do about it.
“You’re the one called Mouse! That’s a name only the boss can call me, did you just make that up?”
“And you did it on purpose, didn’t you? Definitely on purpose! Just to separate me from the boss!”
Seeing this, the mouse became furiously agitated, certain it was the pretty boy’s conspiracy.
That guy knew the library’s rules all too well, so he must have staged this whole act deliberately to get me away from the boss.
This Nan Zhu character, he must be harboring ill intentions towards the boss.
Damn it! To think I let my guard down and gave this guy an opening.
“Please, keep quiet inside the library, student. It would be troubling if you disturbed the other students.”
“If you plan to keep shouting, I might have to take some drastic measures.”
The girl approached the mouse with a gentle smile, her face clouded with anger.
But the murderous intent emanating from her made the mouse shiver, forcing him to shut his mouth obediently.
“I… I understand…”
The mouse muttered under his breath, covering his mouth, not daring to look at the librarian before him.
How terrifying this woman was, the killing intent she radiated was genuine…
“Alright, Mouse, just stay here for a quarter of an hour.”
“I’ll take him outside for a quick look and then come back to get you.”
Wu Liang held his forehead, a headache throbbing as he spoke.
He had deliberately invited Mouse along because he didn’t want to be alone with the game’s male protagonist.
But now, ironically, Mouse had played himself out of the picture.
“Well… alright then…”
Mouse, carrying a face full of grievance, looked at Wu Liang.
Finally, his gaze landed on Nan Zhu, who was smiling, that damn philandering cat, even though he was a guy…

**”Library Perimeter”**
“Let’s go then, is there anywhere else you’d like to see?”
Wu Liang glanced at Nan Zhu and spoke indifferently.
“There’s no particular place I want to see, I’m just a bit interested in you, Wu Liang.”
“I’ve heard some rumors about you, already narrated to me by our classmates and Teacher Ye.”
Nan Zhu, walking ahead, turned to look back at Wu Liang.
A mischievous smile played on his delicate face, appearing somewhat sinister.
“And then?”
Wu Liang suddenly felt a chill, like being targeted by a beast, making him uneasy.
Is this the so-called aura of the male protagonist, a natural oppressive presence?
“I don’t think you’re the jerk described in the rumors.”
Nan Zhu shrugged nonchalantly, shifting his gaze away.
He had heard of Wu Liang’s way of dealing with people, but now, those rumors seemed more like slander.
“Is this why you deliberately got rid of Mouse? The library nameplate, you actually have it on you, right?”
Wu Liang crossed his arms and narrowed his eyes, this Nan Zhu, he didn’t seem as naive as the game’s setting suggested…
