chapter 10
10. Covert Plans
Linuo and his group entered the Fenghai Forest, glancing at the Xuanpan in their hands. As they walked together, the green dots on the device clustered as well.
“To be safe, we should stick together,” Zhou Jianhu, walking in front, suggested.
Guan Lei countered, “I don’t think it’s necessary. Look at how many sect disciples have come in. Moving as a group is inefficient. We might end up letting them clear out the demonic beasts and snatch the treasures first. I suggest we split up. After all, we have the Xuanpan and the Ling Rings to keep in touch.”
Zhou Jianhu worried, “The terrain of Fenghai Forest is complex, and it gets more dangerous the deeper you go. It might not be wise to split up.”
Guan Lei was unconcerned, “What’s the problem? My second senior brother, Xu Yudong, is a fifth-tier, he can accompany me. You, Zhou Jianhu, also a fifth-tier, can take your junior sister, Zhao Yueqing. Han Xianzi’s lineage, with our senior sister Shu Qin, a sixth-tier, can lead Linuo and junior sister Ke Xin. It’s efficient and safe, perfectly feasible.”
Guan Lei had already planned the groups, pairing the strong with the weak. Anyone above the fifth-tier would have no issues in a place like Fenghai Forest.
Despite Zhou Jianhu’s repeated persuasion, after a round of discussion, everyone eventually agreed to Guan Lei’s proposal.
Linuo apologized for his previous remarks mocking Guan Lei’s incompetence.
The guy did have some level of skill in grouping; he paired himself with Suke Xin and separated the rest. In the wilds of Fenghai Forest, he could find a secluded corner to kill Suke Xin unnoticed, then play dumb upon returning, waiting to become a demon and rule the world.
As for the senior sister, Liu Shuqin, he could lure her away before making a move.
The seven disciples split into three teams, each taking a different route to explore the cause of the demonic beast uprising, observing each other’s locations through the Xuanpan and Ling Rings.
Linuo, Suke Xin, and Liu Shuqin headed southeast, deeper into Fenghai Forest.
Entering Fenghai Forest felt like a leisurely stroll, with no demonic beasts, just green mountains and clear waters, birdsong, and floral scents. After all, they were a step late; the other sect disciples had cleared the area.
Opportunity is built on chaos, whether it’s for the protagonist to level up or for him to assassinate the protagonist, a chance must arise.
He constantly surveyed the terrain and environment, plotting the grand scheme to assassinate the protagonist.
Someone as ordinary as him wouldn’t attract attention.
But now…
He felt two gazes from both sides.
The three of them walked together, him in the middle, his junior sister on the left, and the senior sister on the right. It seemed they were always watching him.
Could they be guarding against me?
“Junior brother, aren’t you curious why I came?” she asked.
Liu Shuqin suddenly spoke up, breaking the silence first.
“Why?”
It was only then that Lin Nuo remembered this matter. As a sixth-stage spiritual practitioner, Liu Shuqin should be undertaking dangerous missions, not keeping company with someone who could only fight robbers like him. Previously, he had been so focused on Su Kexin that he had forgotten to ask about this.
“Because I promised you, I would help you with your cultivation; I came here on my own initiative,” Liu Shuqin said with a light laugh. “This is your first time venturing out for a trial; let’s give it our all together.”
Is that it? You came just for that?
Lin Nuo couldn’t understand the decision of the ever-so-kind Liu Shuqin.
No one owed anyone anything, giving up a prime opportunity for trial, committing to the Wind Forest Sea, all for a promise made days ago.
Forget it, do as you please.
“Senior sister, did you and senior brother make some kind of promise?”
Su Kexin felt like an outsider, wanting to join in the conversation.
“A promise? I suppose so. I promised him I would help him improve his cultivation and wanted to use this trial opportunity to guide him.”
“Oh, no wonder senior sister was assigned to our team. But with your strength, joining us is an underutilization of your talents.”
“He is my junior brother, and as the eldest senior sister, guiding him is my duty; there’s no question of underutilization.”
“Then senior sister, could you also guide me?”
“Of course, I will guide you as well.”
Lin Nuo felt awkward in his position.
On either side of him, the two young girls chatted and laughed, with him in the middle, his face darkened. Any small action of his would be noticed.
In a group of three, there must be a fool.
I, Lin Nuo, am the fool, having taken a good spot.
He looked down at the Xuanpan; the positions of Guan Lei and Xu Yudong were getting farther and farther from him.
He felt it was unreasonable. After all, his ability to come to Zhuxing Town must have been due to Guan Lei and Xu Yudong’s secret intervention. During the trial period outside, they would definitely find ways to take revenge on him.
Moreover, Guan Lei’s deliberate proposal for group action was precisely to find an opportunity to deal with him, wasn’t it?
But now they were moving in the opposite direction from him, which made no sense.
As an excellent antagonist, Lin Nuo felt that things were not so simple.
…
“Second senior brother, your plan is brilliant. Now Lin Nuo won’t know we’re tracking him; he’ll definitely think we’ve gone elsewhere for the trial.”
Guan Lei snickered, their Xuanpan in hand pinpointing Lin Nuo’s location, now drawing closer to them.
“Tampering with the Xuanpan, our positions are erased. In fact, the green dots they see are not us. You’re truly clever, second senior brother. Now that we’ve ventured deep into the Wind Sea Forest, what’s our next move?”
The cold Xu Yudong stopped, turned to Guan Lei, and said, “There’s fog deep in the Wind Sea Forest, and when the beasts go wild, we’ll scatter them and take the chance to kill him.”
“Kill, kill him?!” Guan Lei exclaimed in surprise. “Second senior brother, didn’t we agree to just give him a harsh lesson? Although he deserves it, it’s not like we should kill him…”
“If we’re to kill, we must not only kill him but others as well.”
Xu Yudong slightly raised his right palm, extending it towards Guan Lei’s forehead, “Including you.”
Bang!
Guan Lei’s eyes turned deathly white as he collapsed to the ground.
Breathing and pulse ceased.
He was dead.
With just a single palm strike, the demonic energy pierced through Guan Lei’s entire body, killing him instantly.
Without the slightest defense.
“Come out, all of you.”
With a light flick of Xu Yudong’s right hand, several masked men in black appeared from nearby.
“Reporting to the young master, everything is ready.”
“Good, most have entered the Wind Sea Forest. Start the fogging ritual and take care of all the sect disciples inside. Yes, dispose of this body as well.”
“As you command!”
The men in black picked up Guan Lei’s body and quickly left the scene.
Xu Yudong glanced at the Xuan Disk in his hand.
Guan Lei was dead, but his green dot had not disappeared.
From the beginning, everything had been under his control.
“This vast Wind Sea Forest is filled with so-called righteous sect disciples. Today, we’ll slaughter them all in one go. Yuan Heng, you old fool, you didn’t expect this, did you? The Xuan Disk in your hand, those green dots, they’re not Xuan Yun Sect disciples. Wait until my men have crippled Liu Shuqin and Zhou Jianhu, then I’ll show you the true Xuan Disk image, and you can come in and die with them.”
Xu Yudong sneered and walked deeper into the Wind Sea Forest.
Before long, he arrived at a cave and entered. Along the way, numerous fire basins blazed with fierce flames.
“Fourth Uncle, the Xuan Yun Sect disciples have ventured deep into the Wind Sea Forest, we can begin now.”
“Good, Yudong, well done, you’re truly my nephew.”
A middle-aged man in a black robe chuckled, “Everyone, heed my command, the plan starts now!”
