chapter 8
8. Riding with the Lady Driver
For most disciples, venturing out for trials was a first-time experience.
The Xuan Yun Sect, concerned for their safety, arranged for elders with profound cultivation to lead each team.
The elders were not there to help them fight monsters and level up; rather, the disciples were to act on their own, with the elders stepping in only if they faced danger.
Their team was led by Elder Yuan Heng, the same elder who had sparred with Second Sister Lin Nuo early in the morning.
Of course, someone like Lin Nuo, who had fought bandits in a small village in his previous life, did not merit the accompaniment of such a prominent figure.
In Candle Star Town, Su Kexin was not supposed to be on her trial, but the butterfly effect took hold when Lin Nuo changed his name and location, leading to a series of changes, including Su Kexin’s monster-fighting and leveling route.
With many disciples accompanying them, the mission was undoubtedly of significant importance. However, the higher the mission’s level, the more opportunities he would have to kill Su Kexin.
The white-haired Elder Yuan led Lin Nuo and the others to the edge of the cliff at Tian Ling Mountain. Stroking his beard, he smiled at the disciples, “Can all of you fly with your swords?”
“Mhm.”
“Yes.”
All disciples, except Lin Nuo, affirmed their ability to fly with swords.
Elder Yuan looked at Lin Nuo, “What about you, Lin Nuo?”
“I can’t,” Lin Nuo flatly denied.
Elder Yuan sighed, resigned to the fact that after five years of cultivation at the second stage of the Spirit Realm, it was normal for Lin Nuo not to know sword flying. “Then pick someone to stand on their sword.”
At that moment, Liu Shuqin looked at him. Everyone knew whom Lin Nuo would choose; the only person he was somewhat close to was his senior sister, Liu Shuqin.
However…
“I’ll stand with my junior sister.”
Lin Nuo pointed to Su Kexin.
“What?” Su Kexin was surprised. “Senior brother, I’ve only recently mastered this, and while I can manage alone, carrying another person might be problematic…”
“It’s fine, I trust you. Besides, isn’t Elder Yuan here? Consider it part of your training.”
“This…”
Su Kexin hesitated. This was a long flight, and her first time carrying someone. If something were to happen…
She glanced at Elder Yuan, who nodded, indicating it was okay.
After all, with Elder Yuan present, he would keep watch. Moreover, using this opportunity to carry someone in flight was not a bad idea.
“Alright, then.”
Su Kexin agreed, and soon everyone began to draw their swords and channel their spirit energy, causing the swords to levitate before them as they stepped onto them.
Zhou Jianhu, always headstrong, flew ahead to lead the way. Following him were Guan Lei and the others, who took off one after another, charging forward.
“Shuqin, why aren’t you flying?”
“Replying to Elder Yuan, I’m waiting for my junior brother and sister.”
“Indeed, if she can’t do it, then you’ll lead him.”
Both of their gazes fell on Lin Nuo and Su Kexin. Su Kexin, a bit nervous, lightly stepped onto the long sword.
“Senior brother, come on up.”
Lin Nuo promptly stepped on, and the moment he did, he knew the sword was not stable.
It felt like getting into a car driven by a woman who had just gotten her driver’s license.
“Then senior brother, I’m going to fly now.”
With that said, Su Kexin channeled her spirit again, piloting the long sword to take off.
The sword had barely flown a few meters when it began to shake uncontrollably, teetering on the brink of falling.
Su Kexin concentrated on controlling the long sword. It was fine when hovering, but once it moved, it shook, and the acceleration made it even more terrifying.
Lin Nuo couldn’t help but cover his forehead.
You’re still the protagonist, huh? Sword flying with someone and it’s not even stable, isn’t that embarrassing?
And can you stop shaking? We’re about to fall off.
With the protagonist’s protection, you, Su Kexin, falling won’t be an issue, but if I fall, it’s likely I’ll die before achieving anything, and even worse, right at our doorstep.
Forget it.
Lin Nuo’s fingers channeled spirit, infusing it into the long sword. In the blink of an eye, the sword stabilized, gliding smoothly.
Sword flying is like riding a bike; it’s about technique and doesn’t require a lot of spirit power to maintain. Once proficient, one can control it with ease.
As long as he stepped on this sword, he could intervene.
“Ah, I finally, finally stabilized it!”
Su Kexin’s forehead was covered in sweat, and after much effort, she finally managed to stabilize it, overjoyed.
Lin Nuo could only chuckle in response.
The elder Yuan below saw Su Kexin stabilize the long sword and felt relieved.
“Shu Qin, let’s go too.”
“Okay.”
The two also stepped onto their own swords and took off, following behind Su Kexin.
The disciples flew with their swords, leaving several straight trails of mist in the blue sky.
Lin Nuo had brought along a sharp knife, and now behind Su Kexin, it was a good opportunity to stab her in the back.
A backstab on the protagonist must be fatal; if she doesn’t die, she’ll erupt, and then it would be Lin Nuo who suffers.
But with Elder Yuan and the senior sister watching from behind, it wasn’t a good time to strike.
He had a bold idea.
Accelerate, instantly leaving them behind, then backstab Su Kexin, throw her down, snatch her sword, and make a quick getaway.
Perfect.
“Junior sister, can you speed up a bit and keep up with the front?”
“Okay, senior brother.”
Su Kexin channeled her spirit, and the flying sword’s speed increased, soaring smoothly.
“Faster.”
“Alright.”
She sped up again, still smooth.
“Not enough, add more.”
“Senior brother, it’s already very fast, I’m afraid…”
“Trials are about breaking through oneself. Sword flying is all about letting go, just relax. Besides, Elder Yuan is watching, what are you afraid of?”
Right, I have Lin Nuo to steady me, why panic? Just go full throttle.
Su Kexin thought it made sense, with Elder Yuan watching over, he would intervene if anything unexpected happened.
She took a deep breath, increased her spiritual power input, and the flying sword’s speed soared dramatically. With Lin Nuo’s covert assistance, the collision of the world-ending villain’s and the heavenly protagonist’s spiritual powers propelled the flying sword to its limit.
Soaring, racing!
At this moment, Guan Lei and Xu Yudong were still flying ahead.
“Second senior brother, to think that Lin Nuo can’t even fly with a sword and has to stand on his junior sister’s sword, it’s quite embarrassing. These two are as slow as snails, when will they ever arrive?”
Guan Lei snickered, about to look back to see how far behind Su Kexin and Lin Nuo were, when suddenly, whoosh, a strong gust of wind blew past.
Guan Lei puzzled, “Did something just fly by?”
He looked ahead.
Damn, it’s Su Kexin and Lin Nuo! Have they gone mad?
Their speed was as fast as lightning, even surpassing the iron-headed Zhou Jianhu.
“When did they…?! Second senior brother, we need to catch up quickly!”
Guan Lei and the others immediately accelerated, rushing forward, but the distance between them and Su Kexin grew further, and they couldn’t even see a shadow.
Elder Yuan and Liu Shuqin hurriedly followed from behind.
“Elder Yuan, what’s going on with them?” Guan Lei felt something was amiss.
“I’m not sure, but we must make them stop, it’s too dangerous.”
Elder Yuan clasped his hands together, gathered his energy in one go, and chased after Su Kexin and Lin Nuo like lightning, while Liu Shuqin also channeled her spirit and surged forward, two white lights weaving continuously through the clouds.
Su Kexin flew out confidently, thinking that Elder Yuan and the others would be watching from behind, not realizing she had already pulled away from them.
Good, now’s the time.
Lin Nuo pulled out a sharp knife, aiming for Su Kexin’s heart.
“Die, Su Kexin!”
“Senior brother, look quickly! That’s Mount Akina, how beautiful!”
Just as Lin Nuo was about to swing his sword, Su Kexin suddenly turned her head back with a laugh, startling Lin Nuo into rapidly withdrawing his blade. But due to the sudden panic, his spellcasting was disrupted, causing the flying sword to violently shake.
“Ah!”
The abrupt shaking caused Su Kexin to lose her balance and fall into Lin Nuo’s arms.
