chapter 13
13 – Organization of advisory professors (5)
The moment I heard that, I built a strong mental barrier and started to roll my head quickly.
Looking at my watch, it is still early in the morning for lunch.
I don’t know when that ‘morning’ was when I dropped out, but it probably didn’t exceed three hours.
And now, there is a very high probability that Hanminha will remain in the academy.
Because I want to drop out, I don’t just pack my bags and leave.
Unless it is a special case, a formal deliberation has to be conducted, and the deliberation cannot have taken place right away.
Teaching assistant Bae Ye-bin expressed ‘I dropped out’, but ‘submitted an application for withdrawal’ would probably be the correct expression.
“Han Min-ha, where are you now?”
[I’m waiting at the dormitory. There is a regular review this afternoon, and it will be decided at that time.]
“I’ll go there, so wait.”
[yes?! The professor came here in person]
I hung up the phone and immediately got up from the bench and instead of going to the dormitory, I walked to the administration office.
* * * * *
“Hello, professor!”
When I opened the door to the administrative office and entered, the staff sitting in front of the computer greeted me with a smile.
“Hello. Is the manager here?”
“Stay inside. You’re busy right now…”
I crossed the administration room and knocked on the back door.
“Chief of Administration. This is Professor Hyun.”
“Uh…? Oh, yes!”
Footsteps were heard and the door swung open.
Chae Ga-yoon, with a tired face with dark circles, looked at me and smiled.
“You come often these days? What are you doing?”
“Have you received an application for withdrawal?”
“Yes? There is. Assistant Bae Ye-bin brought it this morning.”
“Let’s look at that.”
I went into the chief’s office and accepted the resignation application from Chae Ga-yoon.
Written by hand, the reason for dropping out was fairly short and concise.
‘I’m quitting because I can’t see any more hope.’
“But what’s wrong with you? Is there something wrong with this student?”
Chae Ga-yoon asked while looking at the dropout application.
“There’s a problem. Was this notified to the faculty?”
“No. Actually, I’m a little busy in the morning… I’m sorry. Right away… Ugh! What are you doing!?”
Chae Ga-yoon screamed as he pushed the paper into the third season.
“I need the original to review, but if I change it… I didn’t even make a copy…”
“It’s okay. This student. I decided not to drop out.”
“Yes? What do you mean?”
“I was interested in basic defense science and thought I would teach it, but I was persuaded by the sudden dropout. Anyway, the dropout was never a thing.”
“Uh… Yes… If the professor said so…”
Chae Ga-yoon nodded her head bewildered as she saw the application for drop out.
“Thank you always.”
When I gently tapped him on the shoulder, Chae Ga-yoon immediately brightened and smiled.
You have to do this service intermittently so that we can continue to cooperate.
“But while you’re here, let’s have a cup of tea…”
“Sorry. I have something urgent, so I’ll treat you to the lab later.”
“Yeah? The lab…? I really like that…”
After smiling at Chae Ga-yoon, who was becoming fussy, he left the administrative office.
* * * * *
“Professor!”
Teaching assistant Bae Ye-bin, who was walking in front of the dormitory, spotted me and bowed excessively to the point where his forehead touched the ground.
“You’ve worked hard, Assistant Professor Bae. I’m here to see student Han Min-ha.”
The short and petite assistant Bae looked up at me and cautiously opened his mouth.
“Professor. Did you personally come to the dormitory because Min-ha dropped out? Did Min-ha do something big wrong?”
“No. I was thinking of being selected as an advisor, but I came to convince him to quit suddenly.”
“Ji… A student advisor…? Professor Min-ha…?”
Teaching assistant Yebin Bae stammered to the end as if he couldn’t believe it.
“Yes. I’m trying to hire an advisor for the first time, but it’ll be difficult if he drops out. Are you inside?”
“Ah… yes… I do. But Professor…”
As I was about to enter the dormitory, Assistant Professor Bae stopped me.
“I also got a dropout application in the morning and talked to Minha… but he’ll probably have a hard time persuading you.”
“Excuse me?”
“Min-ha… Even if I keep going here, I’m sure I’ll probably drop out again. As you know, my grades are so low and I’m timid, so I can’t make any friends… and that’s…”
Assistant Bae opened his mouth while looking at me.
“You fainted during the basic evaluation. Because of that, even among the children, you are quietly ostracized. It must have been difficult to endure that situation.”
“Okay. I’ll keep that in mind and we’ll talk about it. Oh, by the way, assistant instructor Bae.”
“Yes?”
“Did you get all the identities of the students in charge? Do you know anything about Han Min-ha’s parents?”
Assistant Professor Bae frowned as if searching for data in his head before speaking.
“Min-ha, he’s the hero child’s extra points. But the family section was blank. I even knew that my parents went missing during the mission, but other than that, I don’t know too much.”
I don’t even know more than what I know.
For now, let’s go to Han Min-ha.
* * * * *
Since it was class time in the morning, the dormitory was empty.
Standing in front of Han Min-ha’s door, I waited for a while and knocked on the door.
“Student Minha Han. This is Professor Gyohyun. Shall we talk for a moment?”
No sound was heard.
I was about to knock on the door again, but it slowly opened.
“Professor…?”
Han Min-ha, with dark black hair hanging down, looked up at me with shrunken eyes.
“I’m here to talk.”
“Professor… I… dropped out…”
“I submitted an application for withdrawal, but I didn’t drop out. Let’s have a brief meeting. Since I’m still an academy student, it’s not right to refuse the professor’s request for an interview without any particular reason.”
Han Min-ha opened the door with an unwilling expression on my words and stepped back.
A large suitcase stood quietly next to the bed.
I’ve already packed everything.
“Can I sit in the chair?”
“Yes. Have a seat…”
When he turned the chair and sat down, Han Min-ha perched on the edge of the bed and bowed his head.
“I saw the application for withdrawal. They said there was no hope.”
“Yes…”
“I fainted during the basic evaluation, my grades crawled, and I have no friends. Is that right?”
“Yes…”
I sighed deliberately.
“Did you forget what I said in the last interview?”
“no…”
“Tell me what you said.”
“The professor said he would help…”
After staring at Han Min-ha for a while, he said,
“If I say I’ll help, but there’s no hope, can I just take it as a sign that you don’t trust me at all?”
“Ah…! That’s not it…!”
Han Min-ha blushed in embarrassment.
“Student Minha Han. I made it clear. I will help you.”
“Yes… but I… no matter how much I think about it, I don’t think I’m suitable for the academy…”
“Are there any people who are suitable for the academy?”
Han Min-ha nodded slowly and spoke in a low spirited whisper.
“Kids like Heewon… seem like they were born to become heroes…”
Heewon Yoo…
“Well, isn’t student Han Min-ha also a child of a hero? A hero’s talent is inherited. Student Min-ha Han is also such a person.”
“No… I… have no talent. I’m falling behind everyone else in every subject… At this rate, I won’t be able to graduate, let alone become a hero.”
“Do you know that your aura is very pure and strong?”
Han Min-ha shook his head slowly as if he had never heard such words.
“If what I feel is correct, Han Min-ha’s aura is far superior to other students.
“Thank you for your words… but no matter how strong an aura you have… I’m pretty sure I’ll never figure out how to use it…”

My self-esteem hit rock bottom, so I dug the ground and went into the basement.
It is natural that Assistant Professor Bae could not convince him.
If you’re putting yourself down like that, you’ll take everything negatively.
“Professor… I’m sorry you came all this way… My intention to drop out remains unchanged.”
“Do you think I came here to stop you from dropping out?”
Han Min-ha raised his head with a questioning expression.
“I’m here for an advisory student selection interview.”
“Academic advisor… is this…?”
“I want to select Han Min-ha as my advisor, but an interview is essential for that.”
“Yes…? You’re selecting me as an advisor…?”
“Yes.”
“Uh… Why…? Why…?”
Han Min-ha, unable to accept the situation at all, stuttered and rolled her eyes like a broken doll.
“Because I decided to teach Han Min-ha. Is there any other reason for a professor to choose a student?”
“But… Professor… I don’t have good grades… My family doesn’t care much…”
“It’s enough to raise grades, and I don’t think family circumstances will have a big impact here. Don’t you think?”
Han Min-ha didn’t say anything and kept his mouth shut.
“After checking, it seems that Han Min-ha doesn’t have a particular advisor he wants. Would it be okay if I became his advisor?”
“Because I haven’t thought deeply about it yet… and I dropped out…”
“Withdrawal was considered a non-event. I just stopped by the administrative office and cut down the application form for dropping out, and I’m on my way back.”
“Yes Yes?!”
Looking at Han Min-ha, who got up halfway from the bed in surprise, continued to speak.
“The fact that student Min-ha Han wanted to drop out is known to no one except me, the head of the administrative office, and assistant professor Bae. You could just say that the reason I missed classes this morning was because of a meeting with my advisor.”
“But…Professor…I’m really not confident…”
Han Min-ha sat down on the bed again and lowered his head.
“Will I be able to graduate… even if I become a hero, I will get an F grade and be neither here nor there… I honestly don’t know…”
“It’s an F grade…”
I looked at Han Min-ha’s crown without saying anything.
yes. If I keep going like this, I’ll get an F grade.
But you can only receive it if you endure and survive.
If you don’t get even that, you can’t become S-class.
And if you don’t become S-class, I’ll be in trouble too.
“Being an S-class hero is really difficult.”
Han Min-ha looked at me.
“There are two ways to become S-rank.”
He raised two fingers and said.
“First. In case one of the allotted S-class personnel dies and the seat becomes vacant while fulfilling the dangerous and demanding conditions set by the Administration Bureau.”
folded one finger
“Second. Surviving until reaching S-class.”
I folded my remaining fingers and lowered my hand, smiling lightly.
“It sounds obvious, but most of the heroes don’t know this obvious thing. That’s why basic defense science has become an unpopular subject.”
He got up from his chair and got down on one knee in front of Han Min-ha.
“Student Minha Han.”
As the distance between me and me rapidly narrowed, Han Min-ha leaned on the bed and threw his upper body backwards.
“I’ll help you.”
Leaning his upper body toward Han Min-ha, he spoke lowly.
“I’ll help you survive until the end. Survive.”
Han Min-ha stared at me, blushing with embarrassment.
Looking at Han Min-ha, he smiled.
Only if you survive… I can live too, Han Min-ha.
