chapter 17
17 – Golden Vipers and Gray Molds (2)
“Mom…!” “What are you doing!?”
The two students, frightened and covering their faces with their arms raised, immediately looked at me with puzzled expressions.
I smiled and held up the coffee cup upside down.
The coffee was still in the cup, not a single drop spilled out.
“What is it, Professor?”
“I put a barrier on the mouth of the cup.”
He set the glass upright again and said.
“You can spread a shield not only on the body but also on the object. You can make it in a variety of shapes.”
“It’s such a great skill, why is it such an unpopular subject?”
Yoo Hee-won asked sarcastically if her pride was hurt a little because she was afraid that the coffee would be spilled.
“I think I said it during the lecture, but defense skills are based on a calm state of mind. But it’s quite difficult to keep your mind that high during battle. And most importantly, heroes specializing in defense aren’t fun. Just like me.”
It’s like boxing or martial arts.
Rather than dodging and blocking every time and then attacking once or twice, it is much more enjoyable from the point of view of seeing each other bloody and pouring attacks.
Only when the public eye is satisfied can a hero rise higher.
Yoo Hee-won laughed openly when he said that he was not having fun like me, and Han Min-ha bit his lip and held back laughter.
“So honestly, I’m cautious. Defense techniques are definitely helpful, but you might consider them a waste of time in the process of learning them. Well, let’s talk about that later. That’s not the case today.”
Yoo Hee-won slightly raised her hand.
“By the way, Professor, I have a question for you.”
“Something, Yu Hee-won.”
“I’m sorry, but would you please stop using that title? Wouldn’t it be better for us to hear and the professor more comfortable if you at least call me without your last name? Isn’t that right, Minha?”
Han Min-ha, who was suddenly pointed out, nodded in surprise.
“Huh? Uh uh. Eh.”
“Okay, Student Heewon. Tell me.”
Satisfied with the slightly relaxed title, Yoo Hee-won asked with a sly smile.
“As far as I know, the professor is retired, not active, right? There aren’t that many retired professors. What is the reason for your retirement?”
“Why did you retire?”
At the sudden question, I set up a mental barrier and cleared my mind.
This is a bit of a tricky question.
Because in the original work, it was not mentioned why Professor Hyun retired.
There may be some background setting, but at least not from what I’ve read.
When I didn’t say anything, Yoo Hee-won continued to speak.
“So I did a bit of research on the professor. There was nothing about him. There should be at least one common video, but there wasn’t any.”
Was it There is no trace of Professor Hyun’s past activities.
Why is that? Could this be because it is about the past point of view of the original work?
Because the writer didn’t make a separate setting?
As if the edge of a map that is not implemented when playing a game is gray with nothing on it?
“What did you do while on active duty?”
Yoo Hee-won’s continued question made my head spin quickly.
And soon he came up with a good idea.
“It’s a secret.”
“Yeah…? What do you mean by that?”
“It’s a secret, so I can’t tell you.”
In a world where heroes are active, there must be at least one special organization that carries out missions in secret.
I don’t know if there really is such a thing, but I think it might be.
And, with or without it, how can you not believe it when a former hero gloomily says, ‘It’s a secret’.
Fortunately, Yoo Hee-won realized the meaning of my words and nodded.
“I see. You asked a difficult question to answer.”
“It’s okay. I don’t know.
“Hmm. Okay.”
It was a weak threat to a child whose father was the Director of the Bureau of Advisory Committee, but it seems that he got away with a difficult situation anyway.
“Hey, Professor.”
Then Han Min-ha slowly opened his mouth.
“I’m really sorry, but can I ask you something?”
“What is it?”
“Is it safe to say that all heroes with no record acted in that way?”
The family relations section of Han Min-ha’s personal statement came to mind.
The family relationship that was blank despite being a hero’s self-restraint.
Could it be that there is no record of Han Min-ha’s parents at all?
Perhaps this is because it is in the past than the original.
But I can’t explain it straight away.
“I can’t answer for sure… maybe.”
I don’t know, so I just blurted out the end of my words and answered in a vague way.
“All right.”
Han Min-ha readily understood that he might have guessed my answer was about ‘keeps a secret’.
I’ll look into this later when I have time.
“So, I’m curious about the opinions of the two of them. To be honest, Hee-Won’s advisor has nothing more to do. On the other hand, Min-Ha’s student… Hmm. So, if it’s something that both can do together, an advanced defense course would be good. I think. What do you think?”
“I don’t care.” “Wouldn’t it be nice to learn something?”
Fortunately, both seemed to have no big differences in learning defense techniques.
This gave me a rough outline of how the two would be coached.
I took out the report card I had printed out in advance and put it on the round table.
Han Min-ha, who confirmed that it was the report card, lowered her head with her face redder.
“This is the report card for the two of them. You can tell without looking at the report card, but I’m trying to clearly diagnose the current situation. And…”
He looked back at Han Min-ha, who was depressed, and Yoo Hee-won, who was elated.
“Now that we’re in the same boat, we should help each other. Isn’t that right, Heewon?”
“You’re not telling me to drag him around, are you?”
“well.”
I answered vaguely and laid out the report card for all to see.
Yoo Hee-won was ranked first in each subject, class, and overall ranking, and there was no grade below an A.
On the other hand, Hanminha is at the bottom of the list, most of C to D.
Still, I’m not at the very bottom, and there are people who put some subjects below me.
Yoo Hee-won, who saw the report card, stared blankly at Han Min-ha with a completely incomprehensible expression.
“Do you have borderline intelligence?”
“Huh? No?”
“But how could this be…?”
It was a very rude remark, but it had a nuance that seemed to be genuinely curious rather than malicious.
“Wow… this is…”
Yoo Hee-won, who brought Han Min-ha’s report card in front of her, gradually distorted her face and finally shook her head with a sigh.
“Hey, Han Min-ha. Wow… you really…”
“sorry…”
I don’t know why he felt sorry for his classmate for his poor grades, but Han Min-ha apologized to Yoo Hee-won.
“I didn’t bring the report card to envy and look down on each other.”
He smiled and received the report card from Yu Hee-won’s hand.
“I’m an advisor, but I’m still a professor, and you’re all students. So no matter how hard I try, I can’t dig into as much detail as my classmates. So…”
“So now you want me to help Han Min-ha. That’s right, right?”
Yoo Hee-won continued to speak while glancing at Han Min-ha who was crawling further.
“I am the professor’s advisor, not Han Min-ha’s advisor? Why should I be?
“Then, for what purpose did you choose me to be your advisor, after excluding so many great professors, student Heewon?”
“Yeah…”
“Were you thinking of becoming a defense hero?”
It is absurd to become a defense professional hero with such good abilities.
Yoo Hee-won did it because she just wanted me to be her advisor.
That’s it.
For that reason, there is nothing more I can do for Yoo Hee-won, an already completed academy student.
So, I plan to have Yoo Hee-won participate in the training of Han Min-ha to some extent.
As a professor, I can help you institutionally and administratively, but that doesn’t mean I can’t look into the whole life of the academy.
But will Yoo Hee-won really help Han Min-ha?
It will.
That is, if you moderately stimulate Yoo Hee-won’s arrogant and arrogant sense of choice.
“The advisor and students are one group. You won’t feel it because there are so few of us, but in the case of other professors, they have more than 10 students. Yo.”
Yoo Hee-won defensively folded her arms.
“Well… I know. That I’m far superior, and Han Min-ha’s got to the bottom, so I can never climb up on my own.”
“Yes. I’m asking student Minha to help me. It won’t be too difficult for student Heewon. Isn’t it?”
“Hmm…”
Yoo Hee-won didn’t say anything with her arms crossed.
Yes, that was enough for today.
Just not refusing to become an advisor like Han Min-ha is a great achievement.
“Okay. Let’s end today’s orientation here. We introduced each other and got our future directions, so let’s meet regularly and build a strong relationship.”
“under.”
Yoo Hee-won snorted at the rather formal remark.
It doesn’t look cheap when you look at it like that, but I think it’s much better than I thought.
“Let’s stop here for today. There’s a lecture coming up soon. Good job everyone.”
“When is the meeting again?”
“Well, I don’t have anything specific, but shouldn’t we meet at least once a week?
Han Min-ha, who was about to clean up the glass he had finished drinking, quickly removed his hand, and Yoo Hee-won, who saw him, clicked his tongue dissatisfiedly with a ‘tuk’.
“Goodbye, Professor.”
Han Min-ha bowed, and Yu Hee-won did not do anything that could be seen as a greeting.
“Goodbye, everyone. See you in lecture.”
Yoo Hee-won went ahead, and Han Min-ha followed him with quick steps, like a knight’s squire.
These two people really don’t get along.
But I have to make it fit somehow.
Without Yoo Hee-won’s help, Han Min-ha couldn’t adapt to the academy.
In a situation where you are already being secretly bullied, pretending to be friendly with Iljinnyeo, more than anything else, is an immediate drug.
That is the nature of children of that age.
The fist is closer than the law, and I look up to my classmates who are more successful than professors.
* * * * *
“Hey, Han Min-ha.”
Yu Hee-won, who came out of the research building, stopped walking and turned around.
