chapter 7
7 – Basic evaluation (4)
“Then see you later, Han Min-ha.”
“Goodbye, Professor.”
Han Min-ha lowered her head.
When I went to the desk, the nurses were playing rock-paper-scissors.
The nurse who finally won was excited and handed me a shopping bag.
“I’m here, professor.”
“thank you.”
Upon receiving the shopping bag, the nurse stomped her feet with a squeak.
Another nurse smiled and spoke.
“Professor. Do you know how to disinfect? If not, can we tell you?”
“I know.”
“Still, learning from us properly…”
At that time, the siren attached to the emergency room exit side began to turn with a loud light.
The moment the nurses reflexively left the desk, the emergency room door burst open.
Several medics and Maroon berets rushed in, pushing a mobile stretcher.
The Maroon Beret, a special unit that rescues heroes who have lost their energy after a battle with a villain or who have been defeated and are isolated in rugged terrain.
As soon as I saw the maroon beret’s maroon beret, I stepped aside thinking that another hero was seriously injured.
Sure enough, a portable stretcher was carrying an unconscious, bloody man, with a Maroon Beret on top of it doing CPR as hard as it could.
Here at the Academy Health Center, not only students and faculty, but also injured heroes are treated.
Because they are all academy graduates, they have medical records and biometric data, and there is no place like this to treat fatal trauma that only heroes suffer.
So often seriously injured heroes are brought along.
The medical staff pushed the stretcher and went straight into the operating room inside the emergency room.
Han Min-ha was surprised to see the long bloodstains on the floor with his eyes wide open.
A nurse went and reassured Han Min-ha and drew the curtains so that no blood could be seen.
After looking at it for a while, I turned around and left the emergency room.
When I returned to the lab, my phone’s notification rang.
A notice was posted in the faculty group room.
There were several red notification marks floating on the messenger list.
These were messages from various faculty members, led by Professor Sei-Young Jin and Director Ga-Yoon Chae of the Administrative Office.
After looking through them, I went into the faculty group room.
The notice was posted by the head assistant of the faculty.
[We share the results of the freshman basic evaluation, so please check it out and let us know of any corrections by 17:00 today]
I downloaded and opened the attached Excel file to check Han Min-ha’s grades first.
It was in alphabetical order, so I had to lower the stroll until Han Min-ha.
And the moment I checked Han Min-ha’s grades down there.
“Ah, no.”
Han Min-ha’s grades were disastrous.
Of course, my subject was an F, and the rest of the subjects were at least B’s.

Most subjects were plastered with C’s and D’s.
Still, it seems like at least one A will come out.
Wasn’t the hero self-restraint extra points? How could this be?
Is there a genetic or biological problem in the process of inheriting talent?
No, no. It’s not a situation to think about that.
Quest is a problem.
I have to turn this kid into an S-class hero, but how can I…
He wondered if he would be penalized if he failed to complete the quest, but there was no way to confirm.
When I ran into Han Min-ha again, nothing came up.
After all, there is no advantage to knowing all the way to the end of the original work.
However, what is certain is that the cough subsided while interacting with Han Min-ha, although I do not know the exact principle.
It is unknown whether it was temporarily alleviated or completely healed, but at least it is correct to attribute it to Han Min-ha.
Creation of quests and alleviation of consumptive diseases. These are the big changes that I got after a few months of boring life.
So I have no choice but to help her.
Anyway, what happened to Yoo Hee-won?
Quite rightly, she was proudly taking first place, scoring the highest marks in all subjects.
Even if you send it out as a hero right now, you can do it at least mid-grade or higher.
As in the original story, if you became Yoo Hee-won’s advisor, the quest was to eat it raw.
no. Let’s not think like that.
Because the quest already points to Han Min-ha.

After the results of the basic evaluation were announced, the academy was very chaotic for a while.
Since it was a very important evaluation that would determine future academy life, the students experienced mixed emotions depending on their rank.
Several of the students at the bottom of the ranks had already announced their intention to drop out, packed their bags, and left the front door.
I was worried that Han Min-ha would drop out, so I went to the administrative office.
“A list of applications for withdrawal?”
Administrative chief Chae Ga-yoon showed a list on the monitor with condescension, saying “Oh, I shouldn’t have shown this in the first place.”
Fortunately, Han Min-ha’s name was not there.
I’m really glad
“You smell good, Professor.”
As I was bending down to move the mouse, Chae Ga-yoon, who had been sitting aside, opened her mouth.
“Doesn’t I smell something?”
“well.”
“Don’t do that, take it for once.”
As a courtesy, I put my nose to Chae Ga-yoon’s hair and inhaled lightly.
I thought it would smell like an old broom or dust because it was crumbly from frequent overtime work, but it smelled surprisingly good.
“Shaner Gabriel…?”
“Oh my gosh oh my gosh. How did you know?”
Chae Ga-yoon liked it, saying that they had a common topic of conversation, perfume.
But I don’t have time to talk about nostalgia with the head of the administrative office here.
Just then, the phone rang, so I put the mouse down and stepped back.
“You must be busy, but I’ll go now.”
“Ah, yes. I’m sorry, professor. It’s an urgent call…”
Chae Ga-yoon, who checked the call number, picked up the receiver with an expression of chewing shit.
“Yes, I am the Executive Director.”
Chae Ga-yoon, who had been friendly until just a moment ago, became even his voice colder as he turned his face.
“What? Excuse me. Why are you calling here to ask if there are a lot of dropouts?”
It’s probably a management bureau that manages heroes.
It seemed as if the new students who would become future heroes were making a phone call.
“You are leaving because your basic evaluation score is low and there is no possibility. The administration did the basic evaluation? You have to call the faculty department for that. ..”
When Chae Ga-yoon’s mouth began to grow rough in earnest, I lightly greeted her and left the office.
As soon as the door closed, Chae Ga-yoon’s angry voice erupted from behind.
“No, then the evaluation guidelines should have been relaxed from the beginning!”
Administrative chief Chae Ga-yoon’s temperament is famous even within the academy.
With such a personality and smart handling of work, he was promoted super-fast from a low-level office job and sat in the position of chief.

Magic happens when Chae Ga-yoon steps in to make it impossible.
At the sudden high-pitched voice, the administrative office staff stared at us like crabs above the partition.
“Professor, Professor!”
A few female employees called me.
“Why are you here again, Chief Executive Officer?”
“I think it’s a management bureau, but I think it’s probably because the dropout rate is high.”
“Ah, I see… It happens every year around this time…”
The female employees nodded as if they understood.
“By the way, I’m a faculty member.”
“Yes.”
“The Chief Executive Officer has been visiting me often these days… Do you two have anything?”
Even after he said it, the female employee covered her mouth with her hand and laughed at what was funny, and the female employee next to her slapped her on the shoulder and said, “You’re crazy.”
“No. There’s nothing. I just came here to check something about the freshmen.”
“Ah. I see. Then I’m glad.”
I greeted the staff and left the administrative office and headed for the lecture hall.
The first class for new students starts today.
* * * * *
The writing classroom is made in a tiered style, so when you stand on the podium, you can see the students’ desks rising from the tiers.
He went up to the podium and looked around at the freshmen who filled the seats and said hello.
“Hello, everyone. I’m Professor Professor Hyun of Basic Defense.”
Yoo Hee-won was sitting in the front seat, looking up at me with shining eyes.
In the farthest back corner, Han Min-ha was crouching with a gloomy aura.
Originally, it looked dark, but after the basic evaluation, it seemed to be more subdued.
“Am I right?”
“really…”
The freshmen put their heads together and whispered something.
I don’t know what it was about, but I stood still and waited for them to return their attention to me.
After a while, the freshmen stopped talking and looked at me.
“Okay. Then, first of all, I should explain what the study of basic defense is.”
The students took out their notebooks and picked up pens.
However, from the beginning, I had no intention of reciting the history of learning or writing on the blackboard.
“There’s no need for that. Just look at it.”
When the teaching assistant who was waiting outside brought a machine gun into the classroom, the students started whispering.
The teaching assistant, wearing a body armor and even a helmet, stood at the end of the lectern looking at me.
“Basic Defense Studies, as the name suggests, is a study of defense techniques.”
Using my words as a signal, the teaching assistant fired a machine gun at me.
The students flinched and covered their ears at the thunderous gunshot.
Only Yoo Hee-won looked straight at the bullets flying at me with a relaxed smile.
The moment my assistant pulled the trigger, the basic physical defense shield spread in front of me blocked all the bullets.
Because the strength of the shield was slightly lowered for safety, the bullets could not bounce in all directions and were stuck in the shield and stopped in midair.
“It’s over, Professor.”
After emptying one of the magazines, the teaching assistant lowered the muzzle and reported.
When the shield was removed, dozens of bullets caught in the air rained down on the floor of the church.
“I don’t need applause.”
I said to freshmen who were just raising their hands to clap.
“Anyway, by the time you graduate, you’ll be able to block machine gun bullets with your bare body.”
After that, the types of simple defense techniques and their development were explained.
At the end of class, I talked to the students about mental barriers.
“If you become highly proficient in defense techniques, you will be able to use the ultimate skill called Mind Barrier. As the name suggests, it is to defend your mind. However, it is very difficult to use that skill. A calm mind in an extreme situation…”
Then, Yu Hee-won asked without raising a hand.
“Isn’t it a little too much to say that mental barrier is the ultimate skill?”
I looked back at Yoo Hee-won with a faint smile.
“Why do you think so?”
“The only thing you can get by digging into defense studies is ‘getting the mental’. If you go up to the senior year, you’ll be immune to pretty much anything.”
“If you’re a natural psychopath or sociopath, you probably are.”
Yoo Hee-won smiled, but couldn’t suppress the trembling of the corners of her lips.
“Of course, so far no graduates have succeeded in using the mind barrier. But mastering the skill will definitely be of great help. That’s it for today.”
One by one, the students packed their bags and left the classroom, and I squeezed between them.
It was to meet Han Min-ha, who was hit by other students and was unable to do this or that.
I had to return the handkerchief, and I had to comfort him for his poor grades in the basic evaluation.
“Student Minha Han.”
When I talked to him from behind, Han Min-ha shrank in surprise.
“professor…?”
“Let’s look at me for a second. Regarding the evaluation results.”
Suddenly, Yoo Hee-won pushed Han Min-ha roughly and stood in front of me.
“Professor. Have a meeting with me.”
