The villain turns into the infatuated second male lead

Chapter 18

In the quiet piano room, no sound could be heard anymore. It seemed that Qiu Yiyuan, after deliberately lowering his voice, had returned to the guest room to make a call. The conversation must be extremely important.

“Is it almost time to leave?” Yin Zhiyi yawned lazily, guessing silently. He took a few steps to the neatly made bed and lay down.

This nap took up his entire day off. Considering that he had to go to the hospital for work tomorrow, he could only tidy up and head out to buy a phone and a new number.

As he opened the door, he unexpectedly saw Qiu Yiyuan sitting on the sofa with an unreadable expression.

“What’s with the long face?” He teased as he approached, his pretty eyes observing his cheap brother knowingly.

His feelings at this moment were quite peculiar. If circumstances allowed, he was interested in interviewing Qiu Yiyuan about his feelings regarding the news of his foster brother’s death.

The sensation of hearing about your own death from someone else was novel, making Yin Zhiyi truly realize he had already died.

“I… I’m fine.” Qiu Yiyuan opened his mouth to speak, but after a moment of silence, he shook his head. When he saw Ling Su appear, his mood visibly lifted. He stared at his well-rested face and asked seriously, “Where do you work?”

“At Ningchuan City’s First People’s Hospital.” Yin Zhiyi’s face showed a thoughtful expression, then he slightly curled his lips, “Why, do you need to see a doctor?”

“Yeah, I’m seriously ill and only trust Dr. Ling to treat me.” For once, a barely perceptible smile appeared on Qiu Yiyuan’s usually stern face.

Yin Zhiyi was stunned for a moment, then couldn’t help but laugh. Shaking his shoulders, he laughed quietly until Qiu Yiyuan looked at him suspiciously. Finally, he lifted his head and said leisurely, “I’m a neurosurgeon.”

The nonchalant answer made Qiu Yiyuan belatedly realize why Ling Su had laughed before. His face stiffened for a moment, then he lightly coughed in an attempt to cover his embarrassment, “In that case, Dr. Ling, do you accept patients for regular check-ups to prevent illness?”

“Of course.” Yin Zhiyi’s smile was ambiguous. Without exposing Qiu Yiyuan’s true intentions, he nodded and then glanced at his watch, speaking casually, “I’m going out for a bit.”

“Wait.” Qiu Yiyuan, who had just blushed and wanted to calm down before finding an appropriate opportunity to ask for Ling Su’s contact information, had no time to sort out his emotions before his excuse was about to leave. He quickly called out.

“What’s up?” Yin Zhiyi’s deep, ink-like eyes stared at him, seemingly with a hidden meaning.

Qiu Yiyuan looked up at him, seeing his own serious expression reflected clearly in Ling Su’s eyes. He clasped his fingers together on his lap to avoid appearing too awkward, and his lips moved slightly, “Can we add each other on WeChat?”

Hearing this, Yin Zhiyi raised his eyebrows, looking playfully at the cold and unfeeling-looking Qiu Yiyuan. If he still had his original face, such an absurd scene would never have happened.

He chuckled softly, his deep voice particularly alluring in the quiet living room, like a feather lightly landing on Qiu Yiyuan’s heart, making it itch.

Qiu Yiyuan swallowed, banishing the dirty thoughts from his mind, and asked again, “Is it inconvenient?”

“No, my phone is lost. I’m just about to go buy a new one.” Yin Zhiyi shook his head, answering leisurely. He walked to the hallway, changed into a new pair of shoes, and smiled, “Wait for me to come back.”

“Okay.” Qiu Yiyuan’s eyes brightened slightly at the definite response. He tried to suppress his emotions, responding in a calm voice.

Leaving the rental house, Yin Zhiyi checked his pockets to ensure he had all his necessary cards. Traveling without a phone was indeed inconvenient.

Tomorrow was his first day of work as Ling Su. The new experience intrigued him, and he hummed a tune as he walked to a nearby specialty store, mentally recalling Ling Su’s daily work routine.

“Tomorrow is an outpatient shift.” He muttered as he casually entered a store.

In a brightly lit and comfortable phone store, the salesperson was dutifully introducing the advantages of their recommended phones. Yin Zhiyi, with his back to the door, didn’t notice Xia Wanshi running towards their rental house with her purse.

Seeing the familiar door number, she stopped to catch her breath. She took out a spare key from her bag to open the door. The small noise soon alerted Qiu Yiyuan, who was communicating with his father on a social app.

He was surprised by Ling Su’s quick actions, but before he could think more about it, he straightened his clothes. However, when the door opened, it was the long-absent Xia Wanshi who appeared.

“Where’s Ling Su?”

Qiu Yiyuan and Xia Wanshi spoke in unison, then looked at each other.

“He just went out.” Qiu Yiyuan pursed his lips, his tone cold as if he didn’t want to engage.

“That’s good. I messaged him today, but he didn’t reply all day. I called several times, and he didn’t answer. I was worried.” Xia Wanshi, seeing that her childhood friend was okay, patted her chest in relief.

She had just started working at her parents’ company and was in a chaotic phase. Ling Su’s guidance and comfort had helped her avoid mistakes and even earned her several compliments from her mother. She wanted to invite him to dinner tonight, but she couldn’t reach him.

Qiu Yiyuan’s aura turned cold upon hearing the unintentional information from Xia Wanshi. He emotionlessly murmured, “His phone was lost. He went out to buy a new one.”

She shivered, thinking it was just the unpredictable Ningchuan City weather, and asked in surprise, “Lost? He cherished it so much, how could he lose it…”

“I…” Qiu Yiyuan felt both awkward and guilty. He was about to brush it off when he realized the key point he had missed in her words and furrowed his brows, “Cherish?”

“Yeah, he really liked that phone.” She scratched her cheek, regretting, “It was previously damaged, and he was heartbroken. He spent a lot of money to repair it. Now that it’s lost… he must be very sad.”

When she finished speaking, Qiu Yiyuan immediately recalled the rare phone he had seen. The model indeed looked old, and considering Ling Su’s family background, he wouldn’t be short of money. It must have held significant meaning. Because of him, something Ling Su treasured was lost.

His previously joyful mood sank to the bottom. Judging by Ling Su’s recent demeanor, he hadn’t noticed the other’s sadness. Maybe it was his own carelessness, or perhaps Ling Su was too good at hiding his feelings.

He thought of his childhood cat, which he had also cherished. Losing Xiao Jiu’s sorrow felt like reliving that moment of heartbreak again. Understanding the devastation, he felt guilt and heartache upon realizing the phone’s importance to Ling Su.

Just as Xia Wanshi changed her shoes and entered the house, she hadn’t even poured herself a glass of water when Qiu Yiyuan, with a solemn expression, got up and headed to the door. Considering his sensitive status, she asked puzzled, “Where are you going?”

“To find the phone.” He clenched his fists, his deep voice tinged with restraint, leaving Xia Wanshi with only his back.

“But… what if you get kidnapped again?” Her hand stopped mid-air as his figure disappeared.
Ding-dong.

In a luxuriously decorated villa in the wealthy district of Ningchuan City, Yin Miaoyan, who was tossing and turning while thinking of her crush, heard her phone’s WeChat notification. She remembered setting a high alert for Qiu Yiyuan’s messages and quickly sat up to check.

“Huh?” She scratched her head, baffled by Qiu Yiyuan’s strange behavior. She had previously advised him to return to the Qiu family for personal safety, but he had delayed for several days without giving his address.

Today, he contacted her just to find a phone?

“Maybe, possibly, probably, it’s a phone with commercial secrets.” She laughed, making an excuse for her crush, and prepared to contact a bodyguard to accompany her. Then, she belatedly realized.

“Why didn’t he ask the Qiu family’s bodyguards? Could it be…” She blushed, clutching her blanket and rolling on the bed. Unfortunately, his next message asking her to keep it secret from the Qiu family poured cold water on her excitement.

The Yin family, compared to the Qiu family, was a notch lower, but still qualified for marriage alliances. However, Qiu Yiyuan had always rejected the idea, being fully dedicated to his work. Now, trusting her more, wasn’t that a hint?

While an unknown alley in Ningchuan City was in turmoil, Yin Zhiyi, having bought a new phone, managed to get a new SIM card just before the business hall closed. By the time he came out, it was already
past dinnertime. He opened his social apps while inputting account details but paused halfway.

“Habits are really scary.” He stared at the partially entered password for his old account, deleted it, and logged into Ling Su’s account. He saw various colorful flowers shared by Ling’s mother and a message from Xia Wanshi.

The latest message indicated she had left work early to find him at the rental house out of worry.

At this moment, Xia Wanshi, who had taken out some ready-to-eat food from the fridge and was clearly distracted, had no choice but to wait for Ling Su to return. Unfortunately, she couldn’t reach either person.

As she fumed, the door opened. She quickly stopped what she was doing and found herself face-to-face with Qiu Yiyuan, who had just returned.

“You’re back?” She looked him up and down, feeling that although he looked like a cold-faced king, there was a sense that he was in a surprisingly good mood.

“Have you been staying here these days?” The pleasant-voiced woman spoke before he could answer.

She noticed his slightly furrowed brows. Curiously, she followed his gaze to see a woman who balanced between pure and sexy, who was also inspecting the house’s layout.
