The Villainess Seduces the Duke

Chapter 5: Captain Reign...

"Captain Reign, ready to report." I didn't bother to turn the man I sent out to retrieve the information I needed. Instead, I kept my eyes on my mark and bracing myself on the balcony overseeing the common area in the inn we decided to rest for the night.

The inkling suspicion I had, was just waiting for the confirmation I knew the soldier had.

Even more dumbfounded as the night was unfolding.

Below me, were several of my other men and the red headed young lady playing another card game. The young lady whom I suspected, entirely a different person whom I was meeting.

"Another round!" My men cheered.

Idiots.

Complete idiots seeing how infatuated they were with the beautiful young lady.

Whom, not too long ago had asked me if my soldiers knew how to play poker.

Alongside idiots, they were also suckers. Seeing how the young miss had just swindle everyone for their wares.

Instead, of being as upset as I should. I couldn't stop my curiosity.

Mostly circling around the scene that we came upon earlier this evening.

Six men verse one gently breed noble daughter. What was crazier was after we interrogated one the bandits, he had started crying because of how much of a "crazy witch with blood hair" taunted them.

Sighing deeply, I pinched the bridge of my nose. The urge to haul the red headed witch riding me harder has I looked back at all crimes I investigated her for.

All pointing towards one culprit.

Of course, all the evidence to truly incriminate was not concrete enough.

Mostly hearsays.

"Tell me."

"It looks like yes, the lady downstairs is the Count von Haust only daughter, Priscilla Marie von Haust. The coach driver confirmed it." My man said, hearing how hesitant he was on continuing,

"Finish." No point in delaying what I really wanted to know.

"He also confirmed what the bandits had also said. The miss was the one to have taken them down. He stated that she did so 'in a blink of an eye' too."

I see…

Still my eyes looking at the picture below.

Not sure how if I should even report this to the one person whom I considered my boss.

"Forget the investigation." Making sure the message was clear. We didn't need people to know that the daughter of a noble was ambush by bandits. Neither did we need public attention on the fact that we arrived minutes later.

In truth we didn't need our names attached to the Miss von Haust, in any kind of context. Already knowing the aftermath that could follow.

Everything that trailed behind the young miss, always had a way of going wayward South.

Right now, we should have been heading Northeast to a location one of our informants had told us to head too.

Frustration riding me hard since coming face to face with the one person whose fault this whole situation was about.

I wanted to go downstairs and shake the damn young lady who was now cheering for another round of beer.

Anger and caution telling me not to do so. The strict training I disciplined myself, telling me not give it all up for someone like her.

I still had some faith inside of me that hadn't lost hope. Lien was out there. Where was the question that kept haunting me.

It was eerily annoying to that she could bring out so many emotions in the span of hours.

Regardless he needed to get a better grip. Turning away from below he started his way to his lodging. Pausing he flickered one last look below.

"Keep an eye on her." With that he went to rest.
