Chapter 1 - The Bored Villainous Noblewoman
“Laura, you’re perfect for being a VTuber.”
My cousin told me that.
“What on earth are you talking about? That’s so sudden.”
“It’s the way you talk. You know it’s not ordinary, right?”
My cousin, Rion, said that to me.
Of course, I knew I was unusual, but it couldn’t be helped. After all, I had been possessed by the body of a villainous noblewoman for ten years.
Ten years was more than enough time to change a person.
How could one easily shake off lessons engraved into their bones? Besides, I had no intention of discarding the manners of a noblewoman.
I would continue to live like this.
“Is there really a problem with not being ordinary? Rather, I want to ask the opposite. Where could you find someone with as much dignity as me?”
“That’s why I’m saying you should become a VTuber. What was it… a marquis’s daughter?”
“It’s a ducal family. There’s a difference between a duke and a marquis as vast as the sky and the earth, so make sure you know it. Otherwise, you’ll become a laughingstock.”
“Yeah, yeah, you and your concept…! Why haven’t you become a VTuber with that concept until now…!”
Rion spoke passionately.
“You can’t clean, you can’t cook, your domestic skills are zero…! No guy would want to marry a woman like that…! You can’t even set your own hair, so I have to do it for you all the time! The only thing you have going for you is your looks!”
“Oh my, Rion. Have you ever seen a noblewoman doing her own cooking and cleaning? The fact that I have no domestic skills isn’t a minus point; rather, it’s proof that I’m a precious jewel of the ducal family.”
“You say that without changing your expression! But your parents are just regular office workers!”
“Hm.”
I sipped my tea.
A slightly bitter taste spread through my mouth along with the aroma of the tea.
“And you even dropped out of university.”
“That’s right.”
“So become a VTuber, Laura. You were born to be a VTuber. You were practically destined for it.”
Rion said this.
***
My cousin thinks of me as someone obsessed with a concept.
But I find it unfair. After all, I really was the daughter of a ducal family.
Of course, I couldn’t blame anyone for not believing me.
It was hard to explain how I had been possessed in a game world for ten years.

‘The Noble Villainess’ Laura Iris: The jewel of the Iris Ducal Family and a peerless noblewoman.
She inherited her ancestors’ blood more deeply than anyone else and possesses outstanding talents, never losing her elegance.

The action RPG Labyrinthos is set in a medieval fantasy world.
I only chose ‘The Noble Villainess’ Laura Iris in the character selection screen, but then, this happened.
For ten years, I lived as Laura Iris, conquering various dungeons, and ultimately, I even defeated the hidden boss.
And then I returned to Earth.
Aurora.
Upon returning, I was given a new name.
I had the surname Oh even before I was possessed. But it was amusing to see that my name had conveniently changed to Laura.
My family and relatives all knew me as Aurora from the beginning, and my name was changed to Aurora on every official document, from my ID card to my family register.
I think it was probably a reward for defeating the hidden boss.
Since my life had been messed up anyway, wouldn’t it be great if I could live as a beautiful girl?
So, I’ve been living quite happily as Aurora.
Maybe it’s because I’m from a game character. Laura Iris’s body is really healthy and full of talent.
Even with little sleep, I never feel tired and always feel refreshed. I don’t catch minor illnesses like colds, and I don’t suffer from any discomforts like irritable bowel syndrome.
Not to mention my appearance. It’s a given that the rival character, the villainous noblewoman, in a story would be beautiful.
As someone who inherited the blood of the ducal family so strongly, I could say that I was blessed with this body.
However, that doesn’t mean there weren’t any problems.
“…I’m bored.”
I muttered, sinking into my chair.
The monitor screen displayed the word ‘Victory’ in large letters.
After pressing the confirm button, I saw the game result screen and my rank points increasing.
After clicking a few more times, I moved to the main home screen.
I checked the current rank standings.
[1st] DucalFamilyPride 3129pt
The score had gone up a bit since earlier.
However, the gap with the 2nd place was already so wide that I didn’t feel much excitement. The season was almost over, so maintaining the 1st place wouldn’t be difficult.
Closing the rank window, I saw a bunch of friend requests.
Along with that, the message window was filled with exclamation marks.
[Do you want to duo?]
[Hello! I’m contacting you from the pro gaming team Genesis….]
[We’re recruiting members for an amateur tournament….]
[Are you interested in joining a clan?]
I immediately pressed the mass delete button.
And then it hit me. This game wasn’t fun anymore.
“Is it time to switch to another game?”
That thought crossed my mind.
It might sound like a complaint, but this body is too full of talent.
It’s probably because Laura Iris is a villainous noblewoman.
A villainous noblewoman is originally a character who appears as the heroine’s rival, bringing crises to the protagonist.
Such a villainous noblewoman couldn’t be without talent.
Especially since Laura Iris inherited the blood of the ducal family, she possessed excellent potential.
So I quickly got the hang of most things.
Games were no exception.
After all, the skills required in games boil down to three things: reaction speed, adaptability (sense play), and brainpower.
Having lived for ten years slicing down enemies, Laura Iris naturally had good reaction speed.
Her brainpower wasn’t lacking either, and adaptability could be learned to a certain extent through practice.
I conquered various games that way, but after achieving rank 1, I would rapidly fall into a state of indifference.
Winning all the time isn’t fun.
“Hmmm….”
I closed the game window and opened the internet.
I searched for popular games or anticipated releases on search engines and browsed community sites for trending posts.
Some might say this: if games aren’t fun, why not find fun in something else?
That’s a valid point.
There are indeed many different sources of fun in this world. Watching dramas or reading novels could be enjoyable, and exploring different restaurants to enjoy gourmet food might be a good idea.
But those are just temporary pleasures.
What is a villainous noblewoman?
A villainess who torments the heroine in romance fantasy stories?
Or a symbol of defeat who loses the male lead to someone else?
While those aren’t incorrect, I believe the essence of a villainous noblewoman lies in this: the ‘greed for victory’ is the true identity of a villainess.
Especially in the other world I lived in, a medieval fantasy world overrun by monsters, it was common for territories to be devastated whenever a gate opened.
As the precious daughter of a ducal family, I didn’t need many reasons to draw my sword.
I lived in such a place for ten years, and there were countless times when I stained my dress with blood and sweat.
Decapitating enemies on the battlefield, where my life was at stake, was my pride.
Forging that victory into honor was the duty of a noble,
And claiming glory and rewards was the joy of the family.
In that sense, this world is peaceful and dull.
This must be how mercenaries, who once fought in battles, feel after peace has come.
That’s why I play games.
This body is too overqualified for sports.
So the only place I can find the joy of victory is in games.
I’ve been playing various games, trying to somehow satisfy this ‘greed for victory.’
But what now…?
It’s been three years since I returned. I’ve tried all the games worth playing. So now, even finding a new game has become quite a challenge.
Should I go back to an old game I quit? Or should I join a pro league in some game and look forward to high-level matches?
“Hm?”
As I was pondering, I saw a post.

[General] DucalFamilyPride <- Why doesn’t this guy play VR games?
This guy is really annoying. He moves on to another game as soon as he hits rank 1.
Given that he’s hit rank 1 in both Abyss and Clock, he’s definitely a talent, but he never delves deeply into a single game.
He refuses all pro offers and interviews, so no one knows what he’s up to.
If he played VR games, at least we might hear his voice, but I don’t know why he doesn’t play them.
[Comments]
– Who is that, you weeb?
ㄴ (Author) Check the ranking board, idiot.
ㄴ Not interested, moron.
ㄴ If you’re not interested, why did you click on the post? Are you stupid?
– Maybe he’s a hacker who doesn’t want to show his face?
ㄴ I’ve faced him before, and I don’t think so.
– Yeah, I’m curious what this guy is up to.
– This guy plays an average of 13 hours a day.
ㄴ Cyber ghost, lol.
– I think he’d do really well if he went pro.

“VR games, huh.”
VR.
Short for Virtual Reality. In other words, virtual reality games.
For the past three years, I’ve only been playing PC games.
That’s because, given that this body originally came from a game character, I can’t predict what might happen if I entered a VR environment.
Sometimes I wonder.
What if, just like how I suddenly became Laura Iris, I end up being possessed by someone else?
Or what if, just like how I suddenly returned to Earth, I wake up one day to find myself transported to another world?
But I’ve been living well for the past three years.
I don’t think I’ll ever return to my pre-possession body.
I don’t think I’ll ever go back to the ‘other world’ where I lived for ten years.
So I guess it’s safe to say now. Nothing will go wrong.
“Then maybe I should give it a try. VR games.”
Even if something does go wrong, so be it.
My life was too dull to avoid taking risks.
In fact, taking risks is the most fun thing of all, isn’t it?
