Chapter 54 - I Hate Being Alone. I Can't Live Without You (2)
I thought she would be doing well.
However, that was just my misconception.
Although her personality had softened a lot compared to the original, Bluebell still couldn’t do anything on her own.
‘Since everything was done for her at the mansion, it’s no wonder her room ended up like this.’
I moved my body to clean Bluebell’s room.
There was so much trash and discarded clothes that there was hardly any space for a person to move.
I decided to clear the trash on the floor first rather than organizing the clothes.
‘… The trash can is full.’
She knew she needed to throw away the trash, but seeing the trash scattered around the can, it was clear she didn’t know what to do next.
I put the trash from the floor into a sack.
The sack would be placed at the door for the caretaker to collect the next day.
“… Hey.”
Bluebell spoke in a gloomy tone.
“… I’ll take care of it so stop.”
“Take care of it yourself?”
“… Yes. I’ll clean it up so just leave.”
Despite the state of her room, Bluebell was still prideful, insisting she could handle it on her own.
I felt sorry for her, but I didn’t trust her words at all.
“I’ll just clean this up and leave.”
As I started to clean again, Bluebell began hitting my back with her fists.
“Didn’t you hear me?! Damn it! I said stop!! This is my room, so I’ll handle it!! Get out!!”
“…”
“Get out! Get out!!”
Her punches felt like soft taps.
Bluebell kept hitting my back even though I didn’t react and continued cleaning.
‘Does she think I’d let her live in a place like this?’
This room could drive anyone crazy.
I had no intention of leaving the future villainess in such a state.
Ignoring her, I continued cleaning up the trash.
Then suddenly.
“Get out! Get ou- Aaaah-!!”
Crash!
I heard something fall along with Bluebell’s scream from behind.
I turned to see what happened and found Bluebell had tripped over her underwear while trying to hit me.
“Ow… It hurts… Damn it… It’s all your fault, Damian… If you hadn’t come… If you hadn’t taken me to the art competition… None of this would’ve happened… It’s all your fault…”
Blaming others again.
I lifted Bluebell, who was buried in the trash pile, and picked her up.
“What’re you doing!!”
Then, I tossed her onto the bed.
Thud!
“Just rest in bed.”
Luckily, the bed she slept in was free of trash.
“If your leg is hurt, don’t stand. Just lie down.”
“I was standing because of you… You jerk… Why’re you never here when I need you, and always here when I don’t…”
Flop!
Bluebell muttered, almost crying.
She buried her face in the bed.
It seemed she felt ashamed.
‘Never here when I need you, and always here when I don’t…’
While cleaning the trash, I pondered over Bluebell’s statement.
Why did she say that to me?
The reason was simpler than I thought.
Because of her pride, she said nothing when she really did.
It may seem contradictory, but…
“Bluebell.”
“…What. What now?”
“Still, deep down, you’re happy I’m here, right?”
Behind that pride, she had the softest and most girlish personality of all the villainesses.
Bluebell hid her face in the pillow and stammered.
“N-no, I’m not happy at all… I just want you to leave quickly.”
She sounded embarrassed.
One positive thing was that we could gradually change her anxious behavior together.
By being a temporary support for her injured leg, I could help her walk on her own.
“If you don’t know how to clean, watch and learn. I’ll teach you slowly. Okay, Bluebell?”
“… Okay.”
———
Bluebell lay on the bed and quietly watched me clean.
I explained everything from putting trash in the sack to leaving it outside for collection, to putting laundry in the box at the door.
I taught her the basics of living independently in the dormitory.
“But, Bluebell, I’m curious about something.”
“What is it?”
“How have you been washing your school uniform?”
“Why wash it? I wore it once and threw it away.”
“…”
She was living extravagantly as if it was nothing. Throwing away that expensive uniform after wearing it just once.
“No wonder you had so many uniforms. Anyway, from now on, put them in the box outside.”
“No, it feels gross to wear something after it’s been worn before.”
“… I really hate wastefulness.”
“W-what?!”
Bluebell was visibly flustered.
After a moment of contemplation, she whispered softly.
“… I’ll try to cut back a little. Not because you said so though.”
“Good. I’m glad you thought it over, Bluebell.”
For the first time in a long while, I had a reason to praise her.
I patted Bluebell’s head, which made her give a strange expression as if she was recalling old memories.
“It feels weird… I like it but I hate it, and I hate it but I like it.”
At least she wasn’t rejecting it.
After teaching her the basics of dormitory life.
“That- I’ll clean that up! Stay put, Damian! Damn it! I told you to stay put!! I said I’ll do it!!”
I picked up the underwear scattered on the floor… She seemed to prefer blue.
After putting all the trash in the sack and leaving it outside, I swept the dust with an indoor broom.
“Is this my room?”
Unlike before, Bluebell’s room was now spotless. She stared in amazement.
Seeing her reaction made me feel good too.
‘Indeed. You need to clean up what’s dirty, and fix what’s broken.’
Watching the transformed room, a satisfied smile spread across my face.
I spoke to the dazed Bluebell.
“How do you feel? Good, right?”
“Is that even a question? Of course, I feel good! My room is sparkling!”
Bluebell looked around the room with sparkling eyes, filled with satisfaction.
Having watched me clean by myself, she would probably start cleaning on her own even when I’m not around.
‘Since she loves shiny things, she’ll probably start doing it a bit.’
Surely, she’d keep this clean room in mind and work hard to clean.
That was my hope anyway.
Now that she knew how to clean, I had some confidence that Bluebell would keep her room tidy.
“Next time, try cleaning by yourself. You’ll feel more satisfied that way.”
“Well, I’ll give it a try. Not bad. Damian, are you a genius at cleaning instead of studying? How about working as a cleaner at my mansion for a lot of money?”
“That’s a bit…”
“I said a lot of money!! You still won’t do it?!”
“Money isn’t what matters to me.”
Money was important, but there were things more important than money.
I lightly rejected Bluebell’s offer, and she pouted a bit.
“… Fine, I was just joking. How am I supposed to respond if you take it seriously, you dumb Damian.”
Still, she seemed in a better mood.
‘Cleaning took quite a while… Did I end up missing class?’
It was just a 2-credit liberal arts course, so this loss wasn’t significant.
With that thought, I slung my bag over my shoulder.
Bluebell raised her eyebrows and asked.
“… What’re you doing, Damian?”
“I have to go to class now. The next one is a major course. You have to attend too, so let’s go.”
“… I don’t want to.”
“What?”
“… I don’t want to go to the academy!! I don’t want to go today!”
She seemed fine after cleaning and feeling better…
Bluebell was throwing a tantrum at me.
While I was momentarily flustered, she hurriedly pulled down the strap of my bag.
“Don’t go. Stay here with me.”
“No.”
“Why! Why can’t you!! Why do you always say no!!”
“Because we need to attend class.”
It was an obvious statement.
However, it wasn’t the case for Bluebell.
“Why do we have to attend class? Is it the law? No! If you want to stay with me, you can! So why say no!!”
Bluebell’s eyes were bloodshot as she ranted.
She demanded I skip class and stay with her, and said absurd things while holding my bag strap to stop me from leaving.
“Damn it! You can skip! Are you saying that stupid class is more important than me?! I can’t go because my leg hurts, and you want to go alone?!”
“No, I’m not saying I want to go alone. I’m saying let’s go together.”
“No! It’s embarrassing! I don’t want to show my injured leg!! I need to wrap it in a bandage!!”
At least she knew it was embarrassing.
She got injured kicking a trash can in the park, so explaining that to others would be tough.
Bluebell didn’t even want to face that possibility.
“Just stay with me. Skipping one day won’t hurt, right? I’m not asking for much… Please.”
Bluebell tightly grasped my bag strap and pleaded desperately.
“Stay with me… I don’t want to be alone… I can’t do without you… I feel so depressed…”
“…”
“When I’m alone, I feel like dying… I have weird dreams… So don’t go… Please…?”
Her lips trembled slightly with anxiety as she pleaded.
My goal was not grades, but the transformation of the villainesses.
‘If I give Bluebell today… Will she feel less depressed and happier?’
I had no choice.
I decided to concede this once for Bluebell’s sake and to monitor her condition.
“… Until 4 PM. I’ll stay with you until then.”
“Yeah, good decision! It’s been a while since we spent time together so let’s talk. It won’t be bad!”
Not knowing what this decision would lead to.
Bluebell was far more greedy than I had thought.
