Chapter 51
“Is this what you call nursing? Unbelievable.”
Karena was sound asleep, tightly holding his hand.
Despite his annoyed tone, seeing Karena’s face made Lucian unwittingly break into a soft smile.
Worried he might wake the adorably sleeping Karena, Lucian slowly and carefully rose.
He felt no particular trauma to his body.
His mind was the same – rather, he felt invigorated, as if his soul had taken a refreshing bath.
-Please come back. I need you. Without you, I can’t do anything.
That was his last memory from the wormhole.
Was it Karena’s desperate plea that woke Lucian?
Simultaneously, a tingling warmth spread through Lucian’s body until he flushed red all over.
“Same here. Without you now, I can’t do anything either.”
Lucian quietly gazed down at the sleeping Karena’s face.
“Your eyes are prettier than mine, you know.”
Carefully extending his long fingers, he brushed aside the hair obscuring her lovely face.
Karena seemed deep asleep, not stirring at all. She simply clutched Lucian’s other hand like a doll.
As Lucian looked down on the sleeping Karena’s face, he drew closer and closer to her lips.
“Seems I won’t be able to resist today.”
Closing his eyes, Lucian pressed his lips onto Karena’s.
After a long while, Lucian broke the kiss and opened his eyes to find Karena’s blue ones staring back at his red.
“What do you think you’re doing?”
“Well, uh…”
“Lucian, are you a pervert?”
Flustered by the unexpected situation, Lucian averted his gaze as he sat up.
“Was this the first thing you wanted to do upon waking?”
“No, no. That’s not it…”
He didn’t even finish before Karena abruptly pulled him into an embrace.
“Thank you for waking up.”
Just as the two were about to gaze into each other’s eyes and kiss again.
“No, wait. Stop right there. Don’t do it. Stop immediately.”
Gabriel had entered, glaring at Lucian with piercing eyes.
“Aack! Brother, what are you doing bursting in here!”
“If you’ve woken up, you should have quietly called a servant. Why are you lusting after my sister’s lips?”
“Your sister, you say, Your Highness?”
“Yes, my sister.”
“Your Highness’s sister is my wife.”
Lucian’s eyes blazed with equal intensity.
The two immediately resumed their needless bickering upon Lucian’s awakening.
“Brother, barging into someone else’s room so rudely!”
When I raised my voice in anger, Gabriel sulked and grumbled unnecessarily.
“Well, I didn’t expect to see you two like that. I came to give you this…”
What Gabriel handed over was a yogurt filled with fresh fruits.
“Since you’re awake anyway, you should eat this instead of Rena.”
I reached out thinking it was for me, but Gabriel was offering it to Lucian instead.
“What’s this, brother? Did you two fight and make up?”
“Enough. We can just come down for breakfast later.”
After Gabriel left, Lucian held out the plate with the yogurt towards me.
“Heh, now that brother’s gone, you want me to eat it?”
“No, feed me. I’m still a patient, you know.”
Lucian opened his mouth with an exaggerated cute act unsuited to him, so I scooped out an overflowing spoonful and shoved it in.
“Owoof…! What are you doing-?!”
“I can’t understand a word you’re saying, Lucian.”
Opening the balcony window for ventilation, I looked outside.
I saw Gabriel and Hailey walking towards the lake, laughing merrily together in seeming bliss.
Watching their joyful moment, I recalled the past between Gabriel and Beatrice I had witnessed in the wormhole.
“What’s got you so worried? We even recovered His Highness’s memories.”
My gloomy expression must have concerned Lucian.
“It’s about what we’re trying to do.”
Hailey fed a blueberry into Gabriel’s mouth.
Seeming to taste its tartness, Gabriel scrunched his face, prompting Hailey to burst into laughter.
“To prevent destruction… Is my brother’s involvement really necessary? Can’t we do it just the two of us?”
* * *
Finally the day came to depart from the Baron Fenris’s Estate.
Unexpectedly staying so long, I felt indebted to Hailey’s generous hospitality.
“Shamelessly, I leave my brother in your care, Hailey.”
Grasping Hailey’s hands tightly, I bid her farewell.
The Archduke and I decided to station knights at the Baron Estate for the time being while allowing my brother to stay there, but…
“You’re going off and leaving your brother behind, Rena?”
A large luggage-laden unmanned carriage pulled up behind Lucian and my carriage.
“Oh, but this isn’t our carriage…”
“We’ll be going to the Felosite palace as well, Your Highness.”
Gabriel and Hailey cheerfully boarded that carriage together.
“His Highness and I both wished to assist you, Your Highness.”
While I stared dumbfounded at this situation, the carriages simply departed.
I fully grasped it only after arriving at the Felosite palace.
“Welcome, Your Highness the Crown Prince!”
And so Gabriel and Hailey unintentionally left the Baron Fenris’s Estate to become new members of the Felosite Archducal Family.
Thankfully, my in-laws and servants were not only kind, but also treated the two with the utmost respect as the Imperial Crown Prince and his fiance.
“I am grateful for your warm welcome, Archduke Felosite.”
“To think my grandson, whom I thought lost, and his bride-to-be were saved by you, Your Highness. How can I repay this debt?”
“Not at all. I hear you have been very kind to my sister. I should be thanking you instead.”
“With such a lovely future granddaughter-in-law, how could I not dote on her? Hahaha!”
“Though I shouldn’t say as her brother, is not our Karena both lovely in appearance and admirable in her deeds?”
“Indeed! From the moment I met our future granddaughter-in-law, her character was so wonderful…”
No sooner had they met than Grandfather and Gabriel launched into a veritable compliment battle about me.
Even after returning to the Felosite palace, I had no respite, needing to go to my company’s office first thing the next morning.
Originally intending a business trip to the Baron Fenris’s Estate, the extended stay was an unexpected lengthy absence.
The resulting losses to the company weren’t insignificant.
As the owner handling most matters personally, it caused quite a backlog during my time away.
“Lady, how should we proceed with the upcoming weddings? You must decide by today.”
No sooner did the communication stones start ringing than my aide’s nagging began incessantly.
Still in the early stages of the wedding business, I had to oversee even minor details myself. Frequently traveling all over Felosite left little time to see my family.
Sylonne: Sister, when will you return to the palace? I’m going to forget your face at this rate.
Gabriel: Stop letting Hailey push you around and both of you come back soon.
Due to my all-out efforts building the business, Hailey too had been unable to return to the palace for quite some time.
Perhaps three or four days after returning from Baron Fenris’s Estate, Hailey came to visit me at the office.
-Allow me to work here as well, Your Highness.
While I had been quite stringent in hiring personnel, the situation did call for more staff. Still, I hesitated slightly.
‘Would it be alright to hire my potential future sister-in-law as an employee?’
Of course, Hailey’s capabilities undoubtedly surpassed any current employee.
Though lacking mana or divine power, she possessed exceptional intelligence and innate business acumen.
After her parents passed, she had solely managed the Estate’s affairs for a long time, making her asset management skills second to none.
Moreover, being in such a remote place as Baron Fenris’s Estate required stockpiling food directly, giving her extensive grain expertise.
Her talent in landscaping the grand estate beautifully by utilizing natural materials was also astounding.
Considering all conditions, I couldn’t pass on recruiting Hailey.
-Would you perhaps like to try being… a wedding planner?
