Chapter 5: What is he staring at?
A few minutes later, a maid was walking down the hallway that led to Caelum's bedroom.
She was dressed in a classic maid outfit which showed off her curves. Her black hair was pulled back into a braid. She had a gentle, oval shaped face. A small, delicate nose rested above her naturally pink lips.
The maid was pushing a tray containing bowls filled with liquid food. Even though Caelum was supposed to be in a coma and technically couldn't swallow anything on his own, she could easily solve this problem using her cultivation. There was also a bowl filled with warm water and a cloth in the lower section of the tray.
Once she reached the door to his room, she opened it without knocking.
Inside, she saw a handsome young man, approximately six feet tall, standing in front of the mirror. He had untied the front of his patient robes, holding them wide open with both hands. At the moment the maid opened the door, his eyes were focused on something in the lower part of his body in the reflection. He wore a neutral expression as he turned to face her.
The maid froze in her actions. Caelum also froze after turning his face to see who the new arrival was. They stared at each other for a few seconds.
"You-Young Master! You are awake!"
Caelum had already started fastening his robe when the maid cried out in shock. Fortunately, the door was very close to the wall that held the mirror. Because of the angle, she hadn't caught sight of his exposed body or its reflection in the glass.
'What a bad timing. Let's hope she doesn't think I'm some kind of crazy pervert.'
While that's what he thought internally, outwardly he did not show any signs of being flustered at all. He calmly and quickly finished fastening his robe and turned to face the maid, staring into her black eyes.
"Good observation. I'm indeed awake."
Caelum said while flashing a smile at the maid. For a brief moment, as she stared at his smiling face, she forgot her shock. But then she quickly came back to her senses. With a faint blush creeping onto her cheeks, she stammered.
"Please wait a moment Young Master. I'm going to quickly go inform the Master and Madam!"
Saying so, she ran off.
Caelum looked back at the mirror with his hand stroking his chin.
'I can only say that I'm unfairly handsome. I thought the scenery outside was beautiful. But damn! Aren't I even more beautiful?'
Probably because he had been in deep sleep for a while, his medium-length black hair was slightly messy, with a few strands falling across the sides of his forehead. Yet, this did nothing to diminish the charm of his extremely handsome face. He had red lips, thin eyebrows, a perfect nose, ocean-blue eyes, and fair skin.
Even though he was handsome, Caelum's face did not radiate an overly masculine aura. Unless he deliberately changed his expression, no one would think that he was fierce, intimidating or scary. Instead, he gave off a graceful and pleasant vibe, making others feel like he was easy to get along with.
In fact, for the last few minutes, he had been trying out different expressions in the mirror, testing the effects each one had. There was one expression he knew he'd have to use carefully—his smile! When he smiled at himself, showing a hint of teeth, it felt like he was about to fall in love with his own reflection.
'I just used it on the maid to test my hypothesis. As expected, it was super effective. I don't want some powerful psycho female cultivator to kidnap me in the future because of that. ...Or do I? Hmm…'
Caelum was only lost in such meaningless, narcissistic thoughts for a few moments. He wondered what he should do while the maid fetches his parents. The beautiful scenery of this world along with that short interaction with the maid had reduced his fatigue a bit. His mind started feeling fresh again.
He then inspected the memories he inherited from his predecessor to get a better understanding of his current situation. The last time he had tried to do that, the World Devouring System interrupted him.
Caelum had no intention of letting anyone realize that he was not the Caelum they knew - that the previous occupant of the body existed no more. And obviously, he could not let anyone know of the exact details regarding the World Devouring System either, not unless he wanted to be executed for practicing demonic cultivation techniques. A technique that allowed a person to get stronger by killing and devouring others was sure to provoke the envy and outrage of many.
'It is not uncommon for people's personalities to change after a coma. That will help me avoid any major suspicion from my parents and siblings. Other than that, it is time for me to start acting once again.'
