The Ytherrian Luminary

Chapter 16: Chapter 16: Shadows of Darkness, Blood of Vengeance

The dawn sky over Zephyria was darker than usual, the clouds heavy and ominous. Xalin awoke with a sense of unease. Something wasnt right. He moved toward the window, the cool breeze of the city rushing in, but his eyes were fixed on the far side of the training grounds. There, he saw a figure cloaked in shadows. His movements were slow and deliberate, but what caught Xalins attention were the tendrils of shadow swirling beneath him like the legs of an octopus, alive and moving of their own accord.

Without a second thought, Xalin leapt through the window, bending the wind beneath his feet. He launched himself into the sky, gusts of wind propelling him forward as he ran across the air, his movements fluid and graceful. The sky whirled around him as he descended toward the training grounds. Nearing the figure, he bent the air into a ball around him, cushioning his fall until he landed softly in front of the man.

"Who are you, and what do you want?" Xalin demanded, his voice sharp as he prepared himself for anything.

The hooded figure chuckled softly, his voice dripping with malice. "My, oh my, how forgetful you are. We met just yesterday."

Xalin tensed as the man removed his hood, revealing the face of Roran, the leader of the Shadow Clan. The mans eyes gleamed with a twisted satisfaction.

"Im Roran," he said smoothly. "And you, air nomad, are in my way. Move, or youll regret it."

Shadows stretched out from beneath Rorans feet, encircling Xalin like serpents. "Shadow Lock," he whispered, and in an instant, Xalin was consumed by the darkness, disappearing along with the shadows that held him.

Master Aerion, sensing the disturbance from above, came flying in, his body a blur of motion as he aimed a powerful punch at Rorans face. But just as Aerions fist was about to make contact, Roran raised his hand, and the shadows around him thickened, slowing Aerions strike to a near standstill. His arm was caught, suspended as though stuck in molasses.

Roran smirked. "Air masters. So predictable." He swung his own fist at Aerion, but the master reacted quickly, slashing his arm through the air and creating an air wall that sent him skidding backward, freeing him from the shadows grasp.

"I know who you are," Roran said, a dark grin spreading across his face. "Shadow Sink!"

The ground beneath Roran seemed to dissolve into shadow, and he sank into it, vanishing from sight. In the next instant, he reappeared behind Aerion, his hand stretched toward him. "Shadow Eater!"

Aerion barely dodged the attack, twisting his body and sending a powerful blast of air from his fist toward Roran. Roran evaded the attack, but Aerion followed up with a sweeping kick, a blade of air slicing toward his opponent. Roran raised a shadow wall to block the attack, but in that brief moment of distraction, Aerion appeared beside him, delivering a solid blast of air to his side.

Roran grunted, staggering slightly. The airs speed was its strength, and the shadows, while powerful, were slower in comparison.

"You think youve won?" Roran sneered. "I havent even started."

Before Aerion could respond, three other air masters arrived on the scene. They moved quickly, forming an air cocoon around Roran, trapping him in a swirling vortex of wind.

"So thats how you want to play, huh?" Roran said, his voice dripping with venom. The commotion had awoken Kell and Lira, who rushed out to see what was happening. Kell froze in place when he saw Roran.

"Kell!" Rorans voice called out, mocking him. "You came. Care to join me? Show these air lovers what real power looks like."

Kells hands clenched into fists as he stepped forward. His shadow began to move of its own accord, stretching out toward Rorans. He was trying to use Shadow Eater to absorb Rorans shadow, but as the two shadows met, Rorans overpowered Kells, forcing him to cancel the technique before it could consume him entirely.

"I have no choice," Roran muttered darkly. His shadows began to crawl up his body, entering him through his eyes, his nose, and his mouth. Kells eyes widened in horror.

"No! Dont do it, Roran! Ill come with youjust stop!" Kell shouted desperately, but it was too late.

Rorans body was completely covered in shadows, his form shifting and contorting as the power surged through him. His eyes glowed a deep, unnatural black as shadow zombies began to rise from the ground around him. They were slow-moving but resilient, immune to the air blasts that passed right through them.

Kells will faltered. He couldnt fight anymore. He knew he wasnt strong enough.

From the corner of his eye, Kell saw Lira step forward. Her face was different now, her expression hard and focused. A strip of red had appeared under her eyes, crossing her nose, and two parallel red lines stretched across her face, giving her an almost otherworldly appearance.

"Blood Secret Art," Lira whispered, her voice low and menacing. "Blood Compression."

She clapped her hands, and from her fingers came a stream of blood moving faster than sound. Roran raised his arm to block it, but the blood pierced through his shadow defenses, grazing his arm. He jumped back, startled by the speed and precision of the attack.

Liras voice rang out again, her tone unyielding. "Blood Hardening!"

Blood coated her skin like armor, harder than diamonds. When Roran lunged at her, aiming to land a solid punch, he felt nothing but emptinesshis punch had no effect. His eyes flickered with uncertainty. He had never faced anyone from the Blood Demon Clan before. This was new territory.

He ordered his shadow zombies to attack her, but Lira was ready. She spread her arms wide, and the air grew thick with tension.

"Domain Expansion," Lira shouted, her voice reverberating through the training grounds. "Blood Field!"

The entire battlefield turned dark as blood rained from the sky. Liras clothes shifted into a deep red, her pupils glowing crimson, and the ends of her hair darkened as blood swirled around her.

"Divine Blood Queen," she whispered, her body rising on a wave of blood that carried her toward Roran. She moved at superhuman speed, appearing behind him in an instant. Her blood whip cracked through the air, slashing across Rorans back, drawing a cry of pain from him.

Roran barely managed to dodge the next attack, a massive blood drill that tore through the air toward him. He was fast, but Liras speed was unlike anything he had ever seen.

Everyone watchingKell, the air masters, even Aerionstood frozen in disbelief. The ordinary girl they had known was now a force of nature, raining devastation on the leader of the Shadow Clan.

With one final move, Lira clapped her hands together. "Blood Mausoleum!" she cried out, her voice echoing through the field. Blood from the battlefield rose and encased Roran in a massive structure of blood, sealing him inside.

But Lira was at her limit. Blood dripped from her mouth, her body trembling with exhaustion. The Blood Mausoleum needed time to fully seal Roran inside, to suffocate him and end the fight. But Lira was fading, her energy drained.

As she fell to her knees, she raised her hand, struggling to hold the Mausoleum together.

"Stop!" Aerion shouted. "Thats enough! If he escapes, none of us will survive. Run! Now!"

But before Aerion could finish his sentence, Lira collapsed, her form returning to normal as the Blood Mausoleum shattered. The shadows began to seep out, and the darkness seemed to crawl back into the world.

From the depths of the shadow, a figure emerged. Rorans body was weak, but the shadows were no longer holding him together. Something else was.

Xalin.

He stepped out of the shadows, his body glowing with markings that pulsed with light. His eyes were white, his expression filled with a cold, terrifying anger.

"Xalin!" Aerion gasped, his voice trembling with shock.

The other air masters stared in disbelief, their voices barely whispers. "The Luminary."

The battlefield fell silent, the air charged with tension as Xalin, now fully engulfed in the power of the Luminary, faced the weakened Roran.

The battle was far from over.
