The Ytherrian Luminary

Chapter 9: Chapter 9: The Vision and Awakening

As Xalin drifted into sleep, he found himself in a vast, open space. The air felt thick and electric, a strange mix of tension and stillness. Before him stood a colossal wolf, its fur dark as the night sky, with glowing red eyes that pierced through the surrounding darkness. The wolf held a representation of the planet in its enormous paws, a menacing smile spread across its fanged mouth as it prepared to consume the world whole. The sight of the creature, ready to devour everything in its path, sent a chill down Xalins spine.

Suddenly, a voice from behind him broke the silence. "You have to save the world."

Xalin spun around to see an old man dressed in ancient robes, their design unmistakably resembling those worn by the Aetherwinds, the masters of air. His skin was marked with glowing white patterns, similar to the ones Xalin bore when he entered his Luminary state. The old man's eyes were entirely white, radiating wisdom and power.

"It's time for you to learn what it truly means to be a Luminary," the man said, his voice calm yet powerful.

As the words left the elders lips, several figures began to appear behind him, each one standing in a line, staring directly at Xalin. They, too, bore the same markings and radiant eyes, their presence overwhelming. As Xalin looked closer, he could feel his own marks begin to glow, his body involuntarily slipping into the Luminary state.

The old man stepped forward. "A Luminary has existed in every generation," he began. "We live, we die, and we are reincarnated. But we must fulfill our duties to save the world in each cycle. When one Luminary dies, their skills and knowledge pass on to the next, and with that comes the strength of all past Luminaries. And now, that strength is yours."

Xalin's eyes widened as he listened, his body tingling with a mix of fear and awe.

"You are destined to master the fundamental abilities of fire, earth, air, water, and spirit magic. But as you've already seen with your shadow ability, you are not limited to just these elements. You must master these powers quickly, for the fate of the world rests on your shoulders."

Xalin felt the weight of the words sink into his core. He had known he was destined for something great, but hearing it now felt overwhelming.

"When you enter the Luminary state, we, the past Luminaries, take over your body, unleashing unparalleled strength. But, in time, once you have control, you'll be able to tap into this power without us guiding you. You must learn to harness this power on your own."

Before Xalin could respond, his vision blurred, and the scene began to dissolve.

---

Xalin awoke with a sharp breath, his body tense as he sat up. His hands were shaking, the glow of his markings fading slowly. Across the room, Kell and Lira stood in the corner, their faces filled with concern.

"You're awake," Kell said with a sigh of relief, stepping forward. "We saw your markings light up, and we thought we were going to have another incident on our hands."

Lira nodded. "We were worried you were losing control again. But this time, you didn't cause a scene, so we figured it was something different."

Xalin rubbed his temples, his head throbbing slightly. "I had a vision. There was this enormous wolf, ready to consume the world. And then, I saw an old man, one of the Aetherwinds. He explained more about being a Luminary how Im supposed to master the elements fire, earth, air, water, and spirit. He said every Luminarys power is passed on to the next, and eventually, Ill be able to control that power without them."

Kell and Lira exchanged glances, both digesting this new information. Kell scratched his chin. "Sounds like your trainings going to be more intense than we thought."

Before they could continue, a knock came from the door, followed by a messenger calling out, "Master Serion has requested your presence at the ocean."

Xalin stood up, stretching as the tension in his muscles released. He had barely rested, but there was no time to waste. He nodded to Kell and Lira before stepping toward the window.

From his vantage point in the tower, Xalin raised his hand, summoning pillars of water from the streams below. The water coiled and rose behind him, lifting him up as he leaped through the open window. With a quick motion, he froze the water, creating a sleek ice slide that spiraled through the city. He slid along the ice, weaving through the city with ease, the cold air rushing past him as he surfed through the sky on waves of water. He couldn't help but laugh, exhilarated by the thrill of it.

As he reached the ocean, he jumped from the water, releasing his control over it and landing smoothly on the shore. He looked around, spotting Master Serion standing with his arms crossed, his expression one of mild amusement.

"You're late," Master Serion said with a raised brow, his tone light but authoritative.

Xalin scratched the back of his neck, laughing nervously. "Yeah, sorry about that."

Serion shook his head with a faint smile. "No matter. Lets get started. Today, you'll learn to master water manipulation."

---

They stood at the edge of the ocean, the waves lapping gently at the shore. Master Serion extended his hand, and a large mass of water rose into the air, shimmering in the sunlight. He began explaining the basics.

"Water manipulation is more than just controlling the water's movement. You must learn to feel its flow, its essence. Water is alive, constantly shifting and changing. To master it, you must become one with it, moving as it moves."

Xalin nodded, focusing on the rhythm of the ocean. He reached out with his hand, trying to mimic the masters movements. The water responded, though not as fluidly as when Master Serion controlled it. But with each attempt, he could feel himself getting better.

"Now, let's start with something simple: the Water Whip," Serion instructed. He flicked his wrist, and a long tendril of water shot out, cracking like a whip. "This move can be as versatile as you make it. Control the shape, size, and speed."

Xalin focused, drawing a thin line of water from the ocean. He twisted his wrist and created his own whip, swinging it through the air. At first, it wavered, but with a bit of effort, he solidified the form and cracked it against the rocks nearby.

"Good," Serion said. "Now try the Water Jet."

Xalin concentrated, compressing the water into a tight stream before releasing it with a powerful thrust. The jet of water shot forward, blasting a small boulder into pieces.

"Excellent control," Master Serion praised. "Next, lets move on to the Water Wall and Water Shield."

Master Serion molded a wall of water before him, swirling it into a shield that shimmered in the sunlight. Xalin mimicked the motion, his wall of water rising in front of him like a shimmering barrier.

He felt the rhythm of the water now, its ebb and flow coursing through him as if it were part of his own body. As the training progressed, Xalin became more adept, moving fluidly between different techniques: Water Bullets, Water Shields, and even a small Tidal Wave.

By the time they reached the end of the session, Xalin had mastered the basics of water manipulation. But something still troubled him.

"Ive been trying to combine fire and water," Xalin confessed. "But I cant seem to make it work."

Master Serion looked at him thoughtfully. "Fire and water are opposites. They do not naturally blend. But that does not mean they are impossible to combine. You are a Luminary you hold the power to bridge opposites. It will take time, but once you master them individually, you may find a way to balance them together."

Xalin nodded, absorbing the wisdom in his words. There was still much to learn, and the path ahead was long, but he felt stronger now. Stronger, and more determined.

As he and Master Serion walked back toward the city, Xalin couldn't help but smile. His journey was far from over, but with each new lesson, he was one step closer to becoming the Luminary the world needed.
