Chapter 16 - Miss Su. Do you want to call the police?
Gu Ruoxian had no idea how she managed to get through the rest of the meeting!
She didn’t even bother to hide the smile on her face.
She couldn’t understand why Gu Xianting would cooperate with Wen Zhao!
On the screen, he was wearing hospital clothes and was in a hospital room. His head was bandaged, but he seemed to be in good spirits. He had accidentally fallen and needed some time to recover, so company matters were temporarily handed over to his wife, Wen Zhao.
The board members were in an uproar. After all, although Wen Zhao and Gu Xianting were married, Wen Zhao was the head of the Wen family. Letting her take over the Gu family business directly seemed a bit rash.
But soon, she produced a power of attorney and a share transfer agreement, both signed by Gu Xianting.
At this point, Gu Ruoxian’s face turned livid. She had to forcibly restrain herself to avoid losing her temper in public.
The shareholders’ meeting ended with Wen Zhao’s overwhelming victory. As the shareholders slowly filed out, only Gu Ruoxian and Wen Zhao remained in the conference room.
Wen Zhao closed her laptop and looked up at Gu Ruoxian. “Elder sister, are you feeling unwell? You look awful.”
“Wen Zhao, did Xianting really get injured from a fall?” She took a deep breath and questioned, “By the way, Miss Su came to see me and told me something interesting. She said you kidnapped him.”
“Sister, you must be joking,” Wen Zhao replied calmly. “Didn’t you just see the video? If Xianting were truly kidnapped by me, why wouldn’t he call for help during the video conference? We both know what Su Mengyao’s intentions are, and what she wants to do. So her words should be taken with a grain of salt.”
“Heh.” Gu Ruoxian sneered. She really wanted to tear into her, but without evidence, just as Wen Zhao had said, if Gu Xianting were truly unwilling, he wouldn’t have behaved as he did in the video.
Currently, everyone believed that she and Gu Xianting were a very loving couple. She had been frequently updating online with snippets of their honeymoon, and many were shipping them as a CP (couple).
“Wen Zhao, I admit you’re quite impressive.” She regretted thinking she was foolish before the meeting. Someone who could manage the Wen Group so well couldn’t possibly be foolish, especially considering the recent cleanup of many internal spies within the Wen Group, which was far from the actions of a love-struck fool!
“You’re too kind. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be going. I need to go back and take care of Xianting. But don’t worry, I’ll review all the documents sent daily and handle company matters.” She said, standing up. “Once Xianting recovers a bit, we’ll return.”
“Which hospital is he in now? Perhaps I should visit him.” Gu Ruoxian was unwilling to give up.
“Sister, it’s not appropriate for you to intrude on a honeymoon between us.” Wen Zhao said leisurely. “Anyway, I have a plane to catch. Let’s stay in touch by phone.”
Gu Ruoxian watched with a dark expression as she left. Once she disappeared from the conference room door, she angrily swept the files off the table and dialed a number, instructing someone to keep a close watch on her and find out her flight and destination.
She couldn’t just let this go! She told herself not to panic. She still had a chance to turn things around. Before the shareholders’ meeting, she had tried to keep the news of Gu Xianting being controlled by Wen Zhao under wraps, but now she had to find a way to bring this matter to light.
At that time, Wen Zhao would be accused of using illegal means to restrict another person’s freedom!
She composed herself and walked out of the conference room. Her secretary was waiting outside. Gu Ruoxian asked, “Which reception room is Miss Su in?”
She was now very glad she hadn’t outright refused to see Su Mengyao. Times had changed, and now their goals were aligned. Continuing to befriend her wasn’t a bad idea.
The secretary hesitated and looked troubled.
“What’s wrong?” She frowned.
“President Gu, Miss Su has already left.” The secretary seemed a bit remorseful. As Gu Ruoxian’s secretary, she knew that the former close friends had fallen out.
After all, Miss Su’s status was quite awkward. When she came to see Gu Ruoxian, she had just told her to wait in the reception room, so the secretary thought it didn’t matter whether she stayed or left.
“When did she leave?” Gu Ruoxian stopped in her tracks, feeling incredibly annoyed.
“Earlier, when President Wen arrived, Miss Su tried to speak to her but… she was reprimanded by President Wen and seemed terrified, so she ran off.” The secretary briefly explained what happened.
Gu Ruoxian frowned even deeper, thinking that Su Mengyao must be out of her mind. How could a mistress dance in front of the legitimate wife and expect anything good to come of it?
Yes, in her view, no matter how beautifully, exquisitely, or refreshingly Gu Xianting and Su Mengyao’s relationship was packaged, it didn’t change the fact that they had entangled with each other while Gu Xianting was still very much married.
Annoyed, she pulled out her phone and took Su Mengyao’s number off the blacklist. She dialed, but no one answered.
In the basement of a bar in Licheng, Wen Zhao sat on a sofa, tossing and catching a ringing phone in her hand.
Su Mengyao, gagged and with her hands tied behind her back, trembled in fear, looking at her with nothing but terror in her eyes.
“Miss Su and Sister Ruoxian have quite a close relationship,” Wen Zhao said, as if suddenly remembering something, and turned displeasedly to the bodyguard. “I asked you to invite Miss Su for a talk. How could you be so violent?”
“Sorry, Boss, we misunderstood…” The head bodyguard quickly explained, glancing at Su Mengyao with some uncertainty. “The thing is, Miss Su is a bit tricky. Last time you asked us to keep her here as a guest, but she mysteriously disappeared.”
Su Mengyao, who had been trembling, suddenly stiffened!
She remembered that the last time she escaped from here, it was with the system’s help. At that time, she was solely focused on finding Gu Xianting so she wouldn’t have to live in fear anymore. She never expected things to turn out so differently from her expectations.
In her mind, she cursed the system a thousand times over!
After being terrified by Wen Zhao, she was even more determined to rescue Gu Xianting. After running out of the Gu Corporation, she hastily hailed a car to find Shen Han Feng.
At that moment, she couldn’t care less whether it was appropriate to ask him for help. She had no choice, she was desperate, and she believed that the young lady of the Chen family would understand her plight!
However, she never imagined that the car she hailed would bring her right back to this bar. When she tried to escape, the way was blocked, and she ended up back in this basement.
These people seemed afraid that she would disappear again, so they tied her up tightly and gagged her.
The bodyguard walked over and untied the ropes binding her and removed the gag from her mouth.
“Alright, you all can leave now. Miss Su wanted to see me and have a talk. I happen to have time now, so let’s talk.” Wen Zhao looked at Su Mengyao, whose face turned pale with fear at her words.
She couldn’t help but doubt her own past life. Why had she ended up in such a dire situation because of this trembling woman who only waited to be rescued and that man who lost his mind over a woman?
Soon, the room was empty except for them.
Su Mengyao looked at Wen Zhao with fear and wariness. “Miss Wen, what do you want? This is a society ruled by law. What you’re doing to me is illegal!”
“And what exactly are you going to accuse me of?” Her smile was mocking. “Weren’t you the one who sought me out at the Gu Corporation, persistently blocking my way despite me saying I had no time?”
“Now that I’m granting your wish, why would you accuse me?” Wen Zhao’s smile was brazen and wild, in stark contrast to Su Mengyao, who was kneeling and trembling, her neck still bearing marks of strangulation, her face pale, looking like a victim.
She felt extremely aggrieved. Indeed, as Wen Zhao said, this level of action was not enough to warrant calling the police.
“Miss Wen, I know you’re very powerful. I’m just an ordinary person, I can’t do anything to you. You can pretend for a while, but you can’t pretend forever!” Sometimes, anger and a surge of adrenaline can give people temporary courage.
Su Mengyao was experiencing just that. “I know Xianting is under your control. It’s pathetic that even though you’re married, you have to use such means to keep your husband!”
“Is that all you wanted to say?” Wen Zhao was getting impatient. Could this woman not come up with something new? “No matter what means I use, it’s a part of our marital interaction. As an outsider, you wouldn’t understand.”
She reached out, grabbed Su Mengyao’s neck, and pulled her close, whispering in her ear, “I’m more curious about how you managed to escape from here last time, Miss Su?”
A chill ran up Su Mengyao’s spine, and she forgot to struggle. “I don’t know what you’re talking about…”
“Didn’t you want to report me? How about I help you call the police now? We’ll let the police investigate how I supposedly kidnapped you and how I’m controlling my husband, okay?” She said, holding Su Mengyao’s phone and unlocking it with her face.
Su Mengyao’s eyes widened in disbelief as she watched her actually press 110, her finger hovering over the call button, ready to press it down.
How dare she!
“I think the police would be very interested in how Miss Su managed to escape from here. After all, you disappeared from the room on the surveillance footage, only to reappear in an alley outside the bar.”
“Many people would be fascinated by your ability to teleport through walls, don’t you think?”
“Before that, let me help you call the police.”
Wen Zhao said this and, under Su Mengyao’s desperate gaze, decisively pressed the call button.
